Mira Sierra House, designed by Oblicuo, is a modest rural retreat set on a 3,600-square-meter
site in Bahia de Ocoa, Southern Dominican Republic. Surrounded by agricultural land
and fishing communities, the house responds to a semi-desert climate with open views to
the mountains and warm sunsets over the bay, embracing a slower and simpler way of living.
Built for a large family with a defined budget, the project prioritizes spatial quality over
luxury. Traditional construction methods, local labor, and honest materials—concrete block,
wood, polished cement, and brick—create a durable, low-maintenance architecture that
feels both practical and timeless. The single-level layout is organized
around a central samon tree, whose shade naturally extends the social areas and protects the house
from the intense sun. High ceilings and upper windows promote cross-ventilation and help
release hot air, while carefully placed openings frame the landscape and regulate natural light.
Mira Sierra House ultimately stands as a quiet refuge, shaped by sun, wind, and landscape,
where architecture fosters connection, comfort, and lasting memories.
