The 4ocean Harbor Skimmer

We're so stoked to introduce you guys to our new piece of technology, the Harbor Skimmer.
The Harbor Skimmer is a 450 gallon unit that uses the suction of water,
similar to a pool skimmer, to collect floating surface debris and plastic.
So we're going to use tennis balls to simulate plastic and debris and show you how the Harbor
Skimmer actually works. This machine is designed to run 24 hours a day. Slow and steady wins the
race. It's not a very fast machine, it doesn't pull things in very quickly, but what's really
important to understand is that this machine was designed to suck up plastic that's already in the
ocean. It's not a trash can for the ocean and should not be treated as one. The automated lift
basket makes this machine incredibly easy to service. Once the basket is full, our crews will
regularly service the unit where they will come, open up the doors, and they have access to all
the plastic and debris. And at this point, this is where they'd be able to take the organic material
vegetation to another place so it won't get sucked up by the machine again. One concern of ours was
the impact that this machine would have on fish and wildlife. If a fish happens to swim inside the
unit, the good thing is that all the high current, high traffic is right at the bottleneck in the
opening of the machine, and inside it's very calm. It almost resembles more of an aquarium or even a
fish tank. So the fish can stay in there, they will remain alive until our crews can service the unit
and release them safely back into the ocean. With every single machine that's installed, this is an
opportunity to not only educate people on exactly how the machine works, but more importantly, what
is happening with the ocean plastic crisis, how someone can reduce their single-use plastic
consumption, and what they can do overall to fight the problem. This is our first version of this
machine. There may be modifications, we may make improvements to the design in the future, but for
right now, it's working perfectly. It's our dream to get this machine in every harbor, every marina,
or anywhere where ocean plastic exists. Guys, we're stoked!
