Traveling phrases, restaurant phrases. Oh yeah, important.
Coffee shop, shopping phrases, direction phrases, phone call phrases.
Phrases to make friends in Korea, dating phrases, encouraging phrases.
So if you go into my book, you're going to see these chapters.

And I'll show you that how like I organized phrases inside of this book
for that chapter specifically for survival phrases.
But you see what I mean. There's like compliments, sickness, common phrases,
hobby, celebration, work, career and bonus pages too.
Everything is covered in this one little book.

because my students told me my resources are super student friendly
and colorful and inspiring and fun.
So if that resonates with you, you're going to love our resources.
All right, then without further ado, let's get started to survival phrases.
Inside of the book looks something like this.
I have English on the left and then you'll see Korean.
You can zoom in like this because you can have it in any device that you like.
Then we have romanization.
And for those of you who already know how to read Korean, cover the romanization.
And if you don't know how to read Korean, we have the romanization
and my video will be attached to every cover page.
So I'll pop up just like how I am right now and, you know, walk you through every phrase.
So let's get started without further ado.
Number one, please repeat that.
Oh, yeah, like you're like, I can't hear that because I'm a beginner in Korean.
Please help me understand.
Then you need 다시.
Everybody say 다시 말해 주세요.
You're going to hear this so much.
In Korea, you'll hear this ending 주세요 all the time, like when you're ordering food.
저기요, 물 좀 주세요. 반찬 주세요.
You've heard 주세요 means give it to me, give it please.
It's not rude. It's not rude to say that.
So know that it's like, oh, please give me this.
다시 means again. 말해 comes from 말하다, to speak.
So again, speak, give it to me.
다시 말해 주세요. 다시 말해 주세요.
Repeat after me because active learners get the most out of my lesson.
OK, so make sure you're here getting undivided attention and you are speaking with me.
I love you guys so much.
And I thank you for your attention, your time and just that enthusiasm that you have with me.
Like I come from this much energy and you're like trying to match with me.
Thank you. Thank you for that heart.
Number two, please speak slowly.
So you want to really survive in Korea by saying that to someone?
Yes, let's do it. We need it.
천천히 말해 주세요. 천천히, that means slowly.
천천히 말해 주세요, same phrase as number one.
So we're just repeating that.
천천히 말해 주세요.
Number one was 다시.
And number two, 천천히 말해 주세요.
Number three, I'm not good at Korean.
Maybe they think you're Korean and they're like talking to you really fast.
And you're like, I'm not good at Korean.
So you can say 한국말, that's Korean language, more of a spoken one.
한국말 잘 못해요.
Not good or 못해요 means can't, unable to.
So you're saying, well, can't.
I can't really do it well.
한국말 잘 못해요.
Here's your romanization for beginners who need this.
Go ahead. 한국말 잘 못해요.
Number four, I can speak a little Korean.
I'm very proud. Be proud.
If you can speak a little bit, so proud of you.
Even one word, it's a little bit, right?
I can speak a little Korean.
한국말, same word.
조금, say 조금. 할 수 있어요.
Here you go. 한국말 조금, little bit.
할 수 있어요. 할 수 있어요.
This phrase means I can do it.
So if I say, hey, 할 수 있어.
This means you could do it, right?
So if you like take the sentence apart, phrase apart,
you can really see where each word is coming from.
한국말 조금 할 수 있어요.
Next, I can't speak Korean.
So here we have can't, that's 못해요.
Like you can't at all, at all.
So number three was I'm not good at Korean, right?
And number five is like I can't speak Korean at all.
한국어 못해요.
Or 한국말 못해요.
한국말, 한국어, interchangeably it's okay to use.
한국어 does sound a little bit more academic though.
한국말 is more, it feels more spoken in my ears.
So just keep that little nuance in mind and you can use that.
한국어 못해요.
Say it, 한국어 못해요.
Right, not, number three and number five are similar
but a little different.
So look at the difference carefully.
Number six, how do I do this?
Repeat after me.
You don't really need the romanization when you're listening to me, right?
But I'll show you after you repeat after me.
You've heard in K-drama, people go 어떡해!
Right, so that's how.
Now look at it.
Now, number seven, please write it down
because I can't really hear it.
I can't understand it.
I don't know what you're saying.
Can you write it?
Maybe I can take a picture and translate that later, right?
Carry over the sound of 그.
주세요, I told you it's a very common ending
when you're asking for them to give it to you
or do something for you, you use that.
Now, number eight.
Can you speak English, please?
I really need you to speak English
because I don't understand the direction here.
So, English is 영어, 영어, 영어.
Now, do you remember this part?
Like, I am going to mark this real quick.
Actually, I cannot mark it in this book.
But here, if you look, 할 수 있어요.
We used that one earlier, right?
We can speak a little Korean.
And that 할 수 있어요 is coming back for can you speak Korean.
I told you it means I can do it.
You could do it.
영어 할 수 있어요?
영어, English, 할 수 있어요?
영어 할 수 있어요?
Can you speak English?
Wow, we just got through first page.
How are you doing so far?
So, we got one through eight.
다시 말해주세요.
천천히 말해주세요.
And then on and on.
Wow, wow, wow.
And now I am going to show you the next page.
Because I told you I will be teaching you 16 survival phrases.
So, here we have the rest.
Repeat after me as we go and as we analyze each phrase at a time.
Number nine.
Please call a taxi for me.
I noticed a lot of times when foreigners like traveling Korea,
they struggle to call a taxi because the app is kind of complicated when you call a taxi.
So, they have to probably ask the front desk or somebody else to call the taxi for them.
If you can catch it like this.
If you can hitchhike the taxi, you'll have to use the app.
And this is so perfect.
That's why I included it in the survival phrase.
Taxi is 택시.
택시, 택시.
택시 좀.
That means a little bit, but we just use it.
It's a very cultural thing.
택시 좀 불러주세요.
One more time.
택시 좀 불러주세요.
I told you we say 주세요 all the time.
It's a very common ending.
택시 좀 불러주세요.
And then they will help you call the taxi.
Number ten.
And I hope this doesn't happen to you, but sometimes accidents happen and emergencies come up and you have to go to the hospital.
So, where is the nearest hospital?
Hospital is 병원, 병원, 병원.
Nearest, near is 가깝다.
And turn that into adjective.
가까운.
Now, look at this.
가까운 병원이 어디예요?
어디예요? Where is?
Nearby hospital, where is?
가까운 병원이 어디예요?
Number eleven.
Please help me. I'm lost or I need help.
That is 도와주세요.
도와주세요.
Yes.
One more time.
도와, when you say 와, make sure you open your mouth really wide.
와, 도와주세요.
Number twelve.
Where is this or where am I?
One second.
Here is 여기, 여기.
Next is 지금, right now.
So, here, right now, where is it?
Maybe you're like in the subway, you're going everywhere like, I don't know where I am, where am I?
여기, here, 지금, right now, 어디예요?
여기, 지금, 어디예요?
And number thirteen.
Do you know where this place is?
So, you can plug in any place name that you're looking for.
Hotel, 명동, 이태원, you name it.
Okay?
So, plug in the place name and say 어디인지 아세요?
Place.
Now, maybe you're looking to go to 홍대.
Have you been?
It's so fun.
It's one of my favorite places in Seoul, 홍대.
It's a young, college-spirited, youthful street.
There you can like eat, you can shop, 홍대.
어디인지 아세요?
Or if you're looking for your hotel, point at it and say 이 호텔 어디인지 아세요?
도와주세요.
Wow, I just combined a few phrases to, you know, make even more fuller conversation.
Very nice.
Number fourteen, I'm hungry.
Well, I have to include it in the survival because we have to eat, we have to sleep, right?
So, number fourteen is I am hungry.
Everybody say 배고파요.
배고파요.
Drop the 요, and that would be your casual.
Say 배고파.
배고파.
Often times when you drop the 요, it becomes casual.
Magic.
Number fifteen, I'm full.
배불러요.
Now, let's try both of them.
I'm hungry.
Repeat after me.
배고파요.
I'm full.
Be happy.
배불러요.
And number sixteen, this is also important.
We need to get water.
We need to be hydrated.
I'm thirsty.
This word has the word neck or your throat.
We use both, the neck and throat with just one word, 목.
This part, neck, this whole part and inside your throat is the same word.
목말라요.
The next phrase can be, please give me water.
What would it be?
물.
Water.
주세요.
물 주세요.
Right.
We have 배고파요.
배불러요.
목말라요.
All three are part of our survival.
So that wraps up all sixteen phrases together in this chapter.
