okay so all right so so to start with I mean the best way is to just understand
what are these strings key the standard tuning so which is E so the open
standard tuning is every good boy deserves every good one E A B G B and
then again E so this is high E this is low E so that's how it is and then if
you traverse through the the strings or one string for that matter so if this is
E open as E then it's a black key if you compare it to the keyboard so E and then
F then G so this is sharp so E F F sharp G then G sharp then A A sharp B but then
after B there is no black key so the two places so B and C so this was E and F
and this was B and C then D then E again so this is one octave so you can do that on
every every string and you can find out the note so this is how you find out the
note in general then there are a lot of things which you can start but mostly if
you want to learn the chord so it's got nothing to do with how the chord in
general works in piano but since you know the piano but I'll just for example
for every so there are two kinds of chords I would say so one are open string
chords they involve a lot of open strings so they so for example this this
this so starting with A so A major is like these three and then you play
together so there are multiple ways of playing it some people play it like this
so you so leaving the top two strings you have to leave those two and then you
place second second yeah and the third one as well so you have to try and for
first couple of days you have to try and play some so that you don't obstruct
other strings every string plays clean
and the last one as well, you missed one, there's one more below it so it shouldn't get muted so
you have to so that's why I said you have to cut your nails because you have
to press with the tips so when you press with your tips it doesn't obstruct any
other string if I place it like so yeah it's gonna obstruct the other string so
you have to play it like so so that's the first bit that you have to play
and then so so there are certain chord shapes of open chord so this is A chord
then there is B chord which is this like I mentioned the note so from A to B
there is one yeah so you can shift this shift it okay and then place this little
finger here this is B chord so yeah so that's why it's preferable to use these
three so like do this and move it yeah that's where so use these three
leave the index finger out
no no the index finger you have to leave it out and use these three
yeah just put these three like so and place the index finger here below one string below
we will come to that other it will take time but so easier one now let's do
easier ones for today but this one is easier or this one so here let's start
with these three it's still obstructing but eventually it would work out one
once you you know try it at the nails cut yeah yeah that's when this is a
major and then there is a E major chord so you just put it put you just lift it
up and then move everything up and you move this finger down so this was like
so yeah then you keep these two fingers together the middle two and then you
just place it like so on the and then you have this lift and place it on the
fourth string so yes E major and E major and E minor are very easy so this is the
E major you leave it this is E minor
so so these are two simplest of the chord
see the difference in the tone major and then it becomes sad
right so major minor same with a so this was a major and then a minor is so this
looks very similar to a major you just put it you shift everything one string
over this E minor so this A minor sorry the E major and A minor so yeah maybe
we'll do it the next time and once you cut your nails so we'll practice more on
how you can play it but I'm just explaining how it works so so best thing
to start with this A major then E minor and then you go down it's A minor
then these are three chords then more simpler chords this is D chord D major
and D minor so what I'm doing is so I'm shifting this note so I so I'm playing
this one but when I wanted to minor because I cannot move this finger
D major D minor so now what else C major C major is the strangest chord and so
it's like this C major and we cannot play C minor and open string so I will
and then this is G major
so that's why easiest one to start with are these A major then E major then A
minor so these are the easiest one to go with
so and then we play some some then we do some right hand work as well so this is
right time so what we're going to do with this so plectrum is the best way to
start with so you can play
just leave everything and just play
I use this bit of the nail so
get a feel how much you have to dig it in just have to graze it lightly
is it tuned? just play this note
I think it's F15
just play this one
hold on
I will tune it
just give me this one
last one
again
this one?
third one
yeah
now it's tuned
so
next time I'm gonna bring that
key as well to
correct the neck
so it's easier to play
so if we try and play that
that is a bit easier
so if we do this
yeah
so if we number the string
that would be easy for us
so strings
this one the lowest one is 1
1 2 3
and this one is 6th
so we use
from second to
fourth
second to fourth
yes
it's counter intuitive but it's other way around
so
you hold the thicker string
at the back
so use this finger to hold this
oh I didn't even notice
I think that's how I think
yeah
sorry?
I said that's how I think
so this is easier because
this finger has got more strength right?
so if you use this to
push it down
it can do it more efficiently
this finger has relatively less strength
so
if you do it this way
yeah
first of all it makes this awkward
angle to your hand
right?
yeah that's true
so
and this is far away
you can do it here
but it's closer
but then it's difficult to do this here
so
so that's why
it's easier to
this
and then it's
so your middle two
strings so
ring and the middle finger
on
so
the ring finger goes on the
fourth string
ring finger
fourth
and the middle finger goes on the
fifth string
so this is
like a yo sign
just that's how I remember
so you make a yo sign here
and then you have this finger left over
so you put it here
on the
here
on the fret before it
and this here
yes
so you have to go
and mix
so
go one string by one
yeah that's muted
because
the other finger is touching
this string so
it's going to be a little bit of annoying
at first because you'll
be like okay what am I doing wrong
and you won't be able to figure it out
so just
once you cut your nail
that's when you'll be able to do
this bit so it's like
you bend the finger
and make it perpendicular to the fret
so it's like
yeah it's like this
it curls all the way if you
look at it from the side
it curls all the way
and it's not touching any of the strings
only the specific string
so you
you're only touching that string
so it can
only be done when you're using your fingertips
yeah
not this bit
you have to use this bit
the fingertips
with every finger
it's going to be like this so you have to use your fingertips
that's the important bit
because you shouldn't be touching
any other string other than the ones which you
want to
and where you want so for example
this fret
so yeah
so that's why
so when we do the chords
same thing applies so we
use only those two
and then this
none of my fingers are touching any other string
other than
so then
what we do we hold the chord
like this and then
try and
strike
one string at a time
to see if all are
ringing properly or not
that's
one of the songs which I usually like to
play in just
just for the sake of
chords
it's like the house of rising sun
it's like this
wow
so it runs through
sort of all the chords right
so it's like
so we are striking all the
strings as well
then C chord
so I'll name it
so this starts
with A minor so this was
A major
and this is A minor
so A minor
then C major
D major
F
then back to
E minor
yeah
A major
so this is a whole cycle
so it starts with
so it's a whole cycle right
so we can
use this song as a target
eventually
when we learn all the chords
then we'll be able to play this
so this would be like a good motivation
for you to learn the chords as well
and then you know the song
and it's exactly the song
this is the song so I'll tell you
this is how the song starts
so you can get chords and stuff
yes
no not online
the house of rising sun
I'll tell you
the house
of rising sun
that's the song
so then they start singing
then the bit we are looking at
this bit
then it starts repeating all over
so it keeps on repeating the same thing
over and over
so it starts with this
chord progression so it's like
A minor
then C
C meaning C major
unless I say minor it's a major chord
so A minor
C
D
F
then A minor
E minor
A minor
so this is one whole cycle
so you have to
learn all these chords
starting with A minor
so A major is this
so what is the difference between A major
root third fifth and root
third
flat
and fifth
so that's how the theory part works
so
for example if you have A chord
so A chord should have
root which is A
then third
which is
root
third and fifth
so that's how it works
so this is root third fifth
and then when I want to do the minor
bit of it so I make the
third which is this one
which is maybe C
is it
D
C sharp sorry that's the third
of A scale
so I make it a minor
so I
flat use a flatter
of third
flat note of third so this is
normal third and this is flat third
so it makes it minor
same applies
with the E
E major so E major is this
so this is the third
so I make
I want to make it flat so I leave it
so this becomes flat
so usually
this works for
all the chords
I'll tell you one interesting bit before
we'll
so these are very important
shapes like this shape
and
this shape and this shape
and this shape
and this shape why?
because we can make all the chords using this shape
using the same theory which we
use for the strings so for example
we can traverse the notes right
so same thing so for example
this was A
then this is B
and then
if I so after B
there's no sharp right it's just C
so
this is C
now
this was A major and this
was A minor right
so this is B minor
and this is C minor
and then
now
for example this was C right
and after C this is D
so
there are two ways in which we can play D
this is A
and this is D
so this is open
this is bar chord
they call it bar chord
I'm not playing like so
otherwise
normally I don't play like this
I play it like this because I'm
sort of
playing these strings with
one of my finger
this one I bend it and then
I play it like so
so that's why the shapes are very
important because I can literally
shift it across
and then make the chords same thing is with this
so this was like
E major chord
shift
one step and it's F
and then
two steps it's G
and then it's A
so A
this A is same as this A
the one which we learned
easier
way to I mean
usually people
to start with this is way
I play A chord
like this
I just use this bit of my finger
because I have this
part longer
so I press
I press
like that for me because I
ended up muting this string
so that's why I play like so
then
the D chord which I
so
some people play it like so
so
lot of variations
different people will do different
things based on how it works
for them depending on how
the fingers are so
yeah so
that's why these are like
basic shapes so you start with
this then you can literally move
it around anywhere and then you
you can
make all the chords
ok
same as with A
same with this
now here if I move it
and if I'm not able
to do this bar
I need to use the half bar which is like so
half bar
so I need
I should be able to
press these two strings
two strings with my
fingers so it's like this
and then
but then
again
for starting bit we can just simply
do this
then move it around
make all the chords
that's why the
although to start with
we need to
be
able to play
these open chords
so
we'll really focus on these three
A minor
then C
C is this
so you play this string
try and
try to
I think you should use this one because you'll get
used to it otherwise you'll be like
ok
yeah
and it's a bit
brighter as well
this is
this one has got an older string so it's not that bright
so play this
first fret
and then you have second string yes
and then
this is fourth string
and then the fifth string
ok
so it's still good
when I did it for the first time
I was doing this
because I couldn't move my fingers
on it's own
so I had to do this literally for my first time
and that's how I was able to play
so yeah it's still good
so this is C
C
so you still have to try to keep that finger
this bit
like so
yeah
good yeah
so this goes
a bit below
on the lower string
yes now it's correct
and it should be before the fret
yeah
but on this string
yeah
that sounded about right
partially right but still
for the first time it's good
and then
then A
yes
three strings
yes
you have to pluck all the strings
it's the
there it is
that sounded better
good that sounded better
then
E major
that's the one that's
like a
the middle
yeah
yes
on a lower one
yes
because
these two you're already playing right
so if you're playing these two strings
so for example I'll tell you
if I'm playing these two strings
if I keep this behind
it's not gonna
do anything because you're already pressing it
before right so for example if I press it
here and if I do anything
here it doesn't happen
nothing happens
so that's
for lower string
so
so we're going to
learn these chords
A minor
so A minor is
let's play A major
E major again the one which we
played yeah
this and this
no not that
yeah
now keep the shape like as it is
move every finger
one string down
so that yes
and this as well this goes down
as well yes
this is A minor
keep this intact
and then
you even this one intact
so these two so play A minor again
A minor the one which we were playing
yeah
correct
so just lift this bit
no the other one
yeah and then
extend it
to this one
yeah
and it's
C and then
lift all together all of
the fingers and then
hold these two so there's a
gap in between so these two
no the lower one
so you have to
make this triangle
so one one one
ok
leave the second string
yeah
it's third and first
third and first
using first two fingers
yes
and then using the
ring finger go the
get this yes
it's a bit awkward
eventually you're gonna get it
that's a D chord
and then
F chord would be
E major
remember E major
play E major
so it's
using center two fingers
yeah
and then
just shift it one
ahead everything
one fret ahead
yes
one fret
yes that's
that's F but
in order to make it
F we have to
switch the fingers because
we need this finger
so we use
the tiny two fingers
ok
and press this
and then one
below it
so
your
this finger presses yes
this correct
this presses the
further below
yes
and yes
perfect
and you can place the thumb
behind so it gives you more
freedom to
you know
press it
you can apply more pressure
yeah
put it above
then it becomes difficult
put it here
and then
back to
A minor
A minor is
so to start with
whenever there is
A chord
hits you
you usually go with this
just for the beginning
which is 2nd
2nd 3rd 4th
ok
2nd 3rd
so like that
A major
but then
lift it up and then
make it minor
so keep that
shape intact move above
but then free this finger and go
so keep the last 2 fingers
the bottom 2 fingers
as it is
and then the free index
finger goes down
on the
B string
the 2nd string
one string below yes
that's it
it's gonna
take a while
it's just the 1st session
I mean because
it's a slow process
thank you
but at least it's a beginning
it's a beginning because
your fingers are going to take
a toll for a while because
it
does hurts at the beginning
until unless it develops a little bit of
calluses
so mine are gone
because I haven't been playing much
but you develop
calluses here
something looks like this
and then after that
it just stays there
until you playing so
and then
it would hurt a bit
for start at the tips
probably it would be hurting
right now as well
I don't know
it's ok
because I haven't pressed it so hard
but you have to cut
your nails so that you can do
this bit
only for the left hand
for the right hand it should be ok
and then
we are going to practice
these in next couple of
sessions too so that you
get used to
then we are going to work on the right hand
as well we are going to work on right hand
so we need to
find out where the string is
without looking at it
because
you won't be looking
you won't be playing like this
you play it like so
it's facing
front so
you always hold it like this
so
then you are not looking at the strings
always
you are looking front
so you should be able to figure out where the string is
where you place
this palm
like so
so it's like feeling it
yeah
and then yeah
so a lot of stuff
going on together all together
but yeah
it's going to be alright
thank you
and then when you hold
the guitar you just hold it like
so
try to make it keep it horizontal
as much as possible
make it go down
then you won't be able to make the angle
right
so usually
that's why I sit like so
most of the time because
let it hang
then it makes the posture much better
if you sit on that
bit that's too
this one
then it would be better for you
so
let it hang
below yeah
so this go fits on your thigh
ok
this way
yeah and then
that's better
ok
you will feel much better
yeah
rest this arm here
on this
bulge part
and then just let it hang
then now you are
much relaxed position
it's more convenient
so this is
the normal posture
just be as stable as possible
you shouldn't
so the thing is this
left hand shouldn't
bear any weight of the guitar
it should be
like so
it should be just doing this
not bearing the weight of the guitar
otherwise if you leave it hanging
then your guitar falls down
like so because this is usually heavy
and then if you are holding the guitar
with this hand it puts an
additional effort and then
you find to hold the guitar not play it
so hold it with this hand
and then it's not fit
and then you can
you
