Hello everyone my name is Song Hye-kyo
Hello everyone I'm Kang Dong Won
Today's StarTalk features a special interview with two of Korea's most beloved stars Kang Dong Won and Song Hye Kyo
These stylish stars reunite on the big screen once again
four years after their previous film collaboration "Camellia "
Playing the role of young parents who have a son with a terminal illness since the age of seventeen
The film carries a deeply poignant atmosphere making it a significant challenge
Qiao Mei and male lead Kang Dong Won are collaborating again after four years—
their last project together was *Camellia
* How does it feel working with him again
When meeting Jang Dong-yoon in
person I saw his passion and desire for acting
It's been four years since I last worked with Kang Dong
Won and this time our collaboration was extremely brief
We shot together over a dozen times in just
one month by then were very close and we also
became familiar with the nearby actors For
more than four years I've been with Kang Dong-won
I've been acquainted with Kang Dong Won all along
The difference between then
and now isn't entirely clear yet because we've always been close
The difference between then and now
I temporarily left Korea to join the military
then returned to acting
Kang Dong-won has been actively working in both Korea and China
but has remained especially dedicated to his work in Korea
As professional actors they've set aside their
previous images for this
new drama and delivered
many firsts Regarding Qiao Mei's role in this
new drama it represents a breakthrough for you
Because not only does she have to play a mother
this time Qiao Mei is also
taking on the challenge of
swearing on screen for the first time and given her
usual gentle image will this be a surprise to herself
Is it a major psychological hurdle to overcome
This time for the movie since it's rated for viewers
aged 15 and up I've never used
any swear words in the film
Swearing doesn't happen very often—it
only appears in
scenes that help reveal
Qiao's character probably because I've
never actually used swear words myself
That's why people resort to swearing—yet
what everyone's really worried about is
This time for the movie I made a big sacrifice because I
knew you'd be gaining 10
kilograms—did you also see yourself feeling
unhappy watching yourself get heavier
Do you often force yourself not to
exercise It's really exhausting isn't it
Because I'm not the type to
naturally gain weight I've been steadily putting on pounds
despite constantly working out
Because I never gain
weight as long as I keep
eating my
body type means
I've just
kept gaining weight constantly eating
constantly exercising and after being away
from campus for a while
This time in the movie
Qiao Mei has to play a high
school student—was that difficult I felt
a bit awkward the first time I tried it
because I thought I’d never
wear a school uniform
again but with *Spider-Man*
Although I wore it in the
film I only wore it briefly but
this time I want to portray a
remarkably youthful 17-year-old
In terms of performance
because both Jiang Dong-won and I have gone through the age of 17
So acting wasn't a problem
at all but physically I looked nothing like the
character I was
playing back then so I was a bit worried But Kang
Dong-won said he
thought it was fine—though I may come off as rough around the
edges the producer
really liked me
So I think it's still manageable but this film should be the last
time I step away from
campus for a while to
play a high school student
What do you find most challenging about it
Actually ten years later I wore my school
uniform again in the film *Wolf Desire*
I was playing a high school student back then around 23
years old portraying
a teenager and now ten years later
I'm wearing the school uniform again
I don't think there's much of a difference
Although there's a
little difficulty
I don't think it's a major problem
I personally think this
movie should be the final
farewell from school but
both Song
Yijiao and I wore
our uniforms—she acted so
naturally and they were all
so adorable so
lucky so incredibly cute so fortunate
This film should be the final one
Ask Qiao Mei
Have you ever imagined
what kind of mother you'll be in the future
Will you be a loving affectionate mom
or a strict disciplined one
I would be
A strict mother to them
I'd be like Mira—very much like a mom to your friends
I'd be like Mira—very much
like a mom to your friends
So I'll be very much
like a mom to my friends
In the drama Director Lee
Seung-hyun's father having
sacrificed his dreams for the sake of his son who
was terminally ill raises the question: in real life
would you give up your
career for your family I would
In addition to the family members who are actors
If family is the path to happiness
I'll do my best to follow it
I have two important thoughts about work
First work with joy
Whether they're good or bad people Do
you understand
Just like Mr Gongzi said
Love can only be given to
those who are loved affection can
only be offered to those who bring joy This is my
creed so I will work with
happiness Even if family leads down a path of
sorrow I will still work with happiness
If home is a path of misfortune I
will work with joyful dedication
Qiao Mei has recently taken on roles in Wong
Kar-wai and John Woo's Chinese-language films
and has also collaborated with numerous acclaimed
actresses such as Leon Lai and Zhang Ziyi
It seems they're actively trying to
expand into overseas markets—releasing a
Korean film wasn't even an option until
2011 So what exactly prompted this project
In recent years Qiao Me has also taken part in many Mandarin-language films How does she feel about
that And will she consider participating in more
projects directed by other filmmakers in the future
Your partner Song Hye-kyo has also starred in numerous Mandarin-language films
I'm wondering if you'd be interested in acting in a Mandarin film yourself
So I've always wanted to collaborate with Chinese people
Who is the Chinese actor or director you'd most like to work with
There isn't one in particular
I just want to collaborate with talented crew members a great director and skilled actors
I'm always mentally prepared I believe I'll do well and
I also look forward to
collaborating with Chinese people
Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans in Hong Kong
I'm always grateful for your warm welcome whenever I come to Hong Kong
I hope you stay healthy and happy forever
Thank you
It would actually better to say goodbye in Hong Kong
We've also practiced earlier though I thought
it might be too funny but I'm really happy
to be meeting all of you
in Hong Kong
and hope I can come here often Thank you for having me
Looking forward to meeting
all of you again someday—I 'll
do my best Please continue
to support us Thank you
