Hello everyone, welcome to my kitchen.
My name is Michael.
And today I thought we would make something
that you can serve for the holidays.
It is now cherry season where I'm at
and cherries are in the stores
and at the markets prevalent now.
So this is the time you wanna grab those
and we're gonna show you how to make a cherry bounce.
Now cherry bounce has been around for a long, long time
back in this country, back around the colonial days
is when that first started making an appearance.
And it was used with the brandies and bourbons,
different kinds of whiskeys and cherries
and a little bit of sweetener in them.
So I'm gonna try to make this.
This is great for those cordials.
After you've had those nice desserts at the holidays,
we've got several holidays coming up here very soon.
And before you know it, they'll be here.
And this takes about three to six months for this to cure.
So now's the time you wanna get out those quart jars,
get those cherries.
And I'm gonna show you how to put this together.
For each one of my quart jars that we'll be using today,
we're gonna be using two cups of cherries
and I have given these a good wash
and we're gonna be using our cherry pit remover.
So if you haven't seen that video on how to use this,
I'll put that link in that description box.
But basically you take it, you put your cherry in it,
you push it and the cherry seed or stone comes out of it
and you just pick it up and continue to do that.
So I'm gonna continue to work on these
and I'll get these ready to go
and we'll move on to our next step.
All right, I have got all of the pits removed
from my cherries now.
So I've got them each individual boulders.
I've got two cups in each one of these bowls
and they'll go into my mason jars here.
I've got two mason jars here.
These are wide mouth and these are really clean.
I just sterilize those.
So we'll be putting our cherries into those.
You've got a funnel to make life a little bit easier
when you get ready to put those in.
So basically we're just gonna put the cherries
into the jars.
All right, now that we've got our cherries in our jars,
we're gonna take our sugar
and I've got one third of a cup of sugar
and we're gonna put that right over the cherries
in each one of the jars.
So now that we've got our sugar in our jars now,
let's go ahead and put the main ingredient
on the top of it.
So I'm gonna put one of these
and I'm gonna put some bourbon on top of one.
And we wanna do with those,
it's probably just a little over a cup, cup and a half.
But what you wanna do is you want to put enough in the jar
that we're gonna get about an inch or two inches
above the height of where the cherries are.
All right, now that we got that done,
like I said, I'm gonna make another one.
I was gonna use a vodka and this one.
So let's put that in here.
All right, now that we've got our cherries
completely covered, I'm gonna put these lids on mine.
If you've got the regular lids, the metal ones,
you can do those with the little rings.
You can do it that way.
These are reusable and I really like these.
I'll put the link in the description box
where you can check these out if you look at that.
And all you're gonna do now
is just give these a good shake through
and get that sugar dissolved in that.
And do the same thing to the other one.
You're gonna put these somewhere away,
put them on your can shelf or put them in your cabinet.
And every couple of days for the first couple of weeks,
I would come in and just give them a nice little shake
just to make sure that we get that sugar dissolved
in with that other liquid.
And what you wanna do for the first month probably
is just to come in and just give them a shake
every couple of days,
just to make sure that that sugar gets dissolved in there.
And then you put them back in there and let them rest.
They need to sit for, like I said earlier,
three to six months.
The longer they sit in there, the better it is.
So it is August where I'm at now.
So with the first holiday coming up in November,
I'm looking at maybe three months on this one or this one,
and then four months on the other one.
But you can definitely let them sit in there
as long as you like and give them a try
and see if they come to the consistency that you like them.
I hope this has inspired you to try this.
And if you've ever had a cherry bounce before,
I'd love to hear from you in the comment section.
And what do you do different to yours if you make that?
And if you've never heard of this before,
go out and get you some cherries and try it
and see if you like it.
And like I say, just come in, give it a shake,
and they'll be set to go.
These make great holiday gifts for your friends and family.
And like I say, bring them to those family dinners
that'll be coming up in those holidays
and surprise everybody with these cherry flavored cordials
that you'll be loving and your family
will be loving them too.
So don't forget to like, share, and subscribe.
And maybe you might wanna check out
one of the other two videos over here.
You might find something else you like.
All right, I'm gonna let this set up
and thank you for watching this video
and we'll see you in my next one.
Bye-bye now.
