Hello everyone and welcome to our podcast I'm Victor and
I'm full of energy today Hi Victor hi everyone Me too
I don't have much energy I'm a bit tired Ah I know why you're tired Amélie
It's because of our big adventure yesterday Oh yes the adventure was intense Today
Dear listeners we're going to tell you about our day yesterday—it was a special day
Here went to the gym We'll discuss everything—the decision—
The preparation the experience and our sensations today—this is a very comprehensive lesson
for level A2 Are you ready Let's go Victor I have some great news Tomorrow
I'm going to do something incredible something athletic Ah yes you too Amélie What about
What are you doing tomorrow Tomorrow I'm going to the gym I received an invitation for
a free trial day Is that an opportunity That's a great idea Amélie—I'm really excited
I've got an idea—I'll come with you We'll go together it'll be more fun
Yes great So preparation is very important What are we going to take
Good question To go to the gym you need things First of all
We're putting on our sneakers Sneakers are athletic shoes Secondly
We'll grab a napkin—it's important And third we'll take a bottle of water
You need to drink plenty of water Okay sneakers a towel and a water bottle
I have all of this And for our clothes we'll wear sports clothes—a t-shirt and shorts
Example Exactly So Amélie tomorrow are you going to wear a dress No Victor
I'm not wearing a dress I'm wearing shorts Are you going to have a coffee No
I'm not having coffee I'm getting a bottle of water And you if you're going to the
sports what are you having And Victor what are we doing at the gym
Sports There are so many machines it's a bit overwhelming Don't worry we'll handle it
simple things I'll try jogging a bit on the treadmill and maybe that'll help
I'm going to lift very very light weights Okay let's jog a bit then lift some weights
light I think I'll just try out one or two machines just to take a look I'm not going to
I'm not very experienced it's my first time This is a perfect plan Most importantly
Well then let's go Tomorrow we'll explore the gym And here we are
We've arrived Amélie look isn't it huge Yes it's very big I can see so many people and
I hear loud music Let's look at the different machines That one over there is the treadmill
Of course It's for running Next to it is the bike It's like a bicycle but it doesn't move
Sure And look at all these weights—they're the dumbbells And that strange machine over there—what is it That's a
a machine for the legs So we have the treadmill the stationary bike the dumbbells Look at people
Victor What are they doing The man over there—he's very muscular He's lifting extremely heavy weights He is
extremely fast And the woman beside him is running on the treadmill She's running incredibly fast And
The two people over there aren't exercising they're just talking They're friends That's a great habit
of the present They lift they run they speak It's our turn We must try something What is it
Try it I don't know The treadmill kind of scares me I'll go with the bike instead
Calm down Okay I'm on the bike I'm pedaling gently very gently It's not too hard
Very well Amélie I'm going to be brave I'll try the treadmill Okay I'll walk I'm not running
I'm walking and that's already something It's a strange feeling to walk without moving forward Okay Victor I'm
I think I've cycled enough for today Five minutes is plenty Now I'm having a drink of
Water and I watch the others It's also a sport Okay observation is your sport
preferred Zouple zip And here we are back today the day after So Amélie tell me
How are you feeling today Victor I hurt all over My legs hurt my arms hurt I have
I discovered muscles I didn't know I had but it's a good kind of soreness—I'm proud of myself
I'm a bit sore too but I'm happy Now we're going to talk about
our experience To talk about yesterday we use a very important tense in French the past
composed Ah the past tense I know a bit about it It's used to talk about the past Exactly it's for
alk about an action that has been completed To form the past compound tense we use the auxiliary avoir or
o be in the present tense plus a little thing called the past participle For example the verb
For the verb eat one says "I have eaten " For the verb go one says "I went " This is the most fundamental rule
mportant at the A2 level Don't worry we'll practice a lot So Amélie let's tell a story
our yesterday's day using the past compound tense Yesterday what did we do were
We went to the gym Perfect we used the auxiliary verb être And me what about
I did You tried the treadmill Yes I tried the treadmill And then You have
walked for ten minutes That's it—I didn't run I walked And you Amélie what did you do
Did you try it I tried the bike Yes you tried the bike And I pedaled for five minutes
Question for you did Amélie pedal for an hour No she pedaled for five
minutes Amélie did you lift weights No no I didn't lift any weights—it was way too much
eavy Okay and after the workout what did you do I drank a lot of water and watched the
other people Okay so you drank some water and watched the others You see when telling the story
When telling a story we use the past tense a lot—j'ai fait j'ai vu je suis allé It's extremely useful
It was an interesting experience I discovered a whole new world I learned new things too
gs And now the big question—will we go back there Ah you're using the future tense
Close by very good I don't know I think I'll try again next week
Next time I liked the feeling afterward And me I'm not sure Maybe I really liked it
The experience was tough but I've been feeling a bit sore all over I'll think it over It's a good decision So
Today we learned a great deal We learned how to talk about our plans with the
short term I'm going to the gym We've learned vocabulary about the gym the
readmill the stationary bike and above all we practiced the past perfect tense extensively to tell stories
a past experience Yesterday I tried it It was a great lesson Now the mission for our
listeners Yes your task for this week It's a short writing exercise In the
comments write two short sentences Sentence number one use the past perfect tense Tell us
something you did yesterday For example yesterday I watched a movie or yesterday I ate a
Pizza Second phrase: use the near future tense Tell us something you are going to do
omorrow For example tomorrow I'm going to read a book or tomorrow I'm going to call a friend We want to read
Your phrases That's the best way to practice We'll read all the comments Thank you so muc
for your listening and participation It was a lengthy episode but we hope it was
Very helpful for you Goodbye everyone and don't overdo the exercise
