Hey welcome back everyone to What Netizens Are Saying
Today I want to share this topic
which came from an article I recently read on Sichen's news website
The article touches on
In Singapore we all know there are
many foreign workers and these foreign
workers have taken or rather competed for many locals' job opportunities
I find the content of this article incredibly interesting and
definitely worth exploring and reflecting on together with many others
Of course our program has always maintained a
relatively neutral and objective perspective
so we also analyze and research this phenomenon from a balanced objective standpoint
And just how accurately does this phenomenon truly reflect everyone's emotions
That's exactly what we'd like to share with you today
When I read this article I noticed
that many Singaporeans
couldn't help but
wonder why our jobs are being taken over
by so many foreigners or foreign workers
Many Singaporeans simply want a stable job in fact numerous local
netizens have voiced complaints about
having sent out dozens of resumes
But there was no response
and then some netizens said
they'd been in their positions
for a long time—possibly
three years—yet hadn't received a salary increase
leading many Singaporeans to develop this perception
Is it really because there are just too many people making
things like finding a job or asking for a raise not so
difficult after all From the
perspective of guiding others let 's
consider this from the standpoint of guiding Singaporeans
In Singapore's society
not everyone starts off disliking outsiders
it's only when people
feel their perceived rights are being taken
away that they gradually develop resentment
Or even strongly disliking so-called外来
workers as mentioned earlier the same
job positions are highly competitive and
there are also many外来 workers involved
They're grabbing job opportunities away from each
other—despite everyone having the same education
and likely putting in equal
effort the rewards aren 't
coming as they once did For instance some people
They worked hard for several
years yet still didn 't
receive promotions or salary increases and over
time this situation began to emerge across many
different industries ultimately
leading to this outcome
We humans are all very intuitive naturally sensing things
in a direct way if we think from a Singaporean
perspective they would approach
things in this manner but
if we reverse it and instead
adopt our own way of thinking
From the perspective of
a foreign worker—regardless
of whether you're Singaporean or not—if we
adopt the mindset of a foreign worker what kind
of outcome might we arrive
at Just think about it
If were foreign workers in Singapore today
many might find certain
jobs too dirty or low
-paying but those are precisely the jobs that
end up meeting the needs of foreign workers
So from the perspective of many foreign workers
they aren't intentionally competing for these so-
called job positions but rather because many local
Singaporeans aren't willing to take on these roles
That's why these foreign workers are filling the
gaps in short the opportunities are already there
—whether or not you want to take them is your
personal choice First let's clarify this for everyone
When Singapore first began its founding it was actually
extremely short on human resources natural resources and
many other essentials so a great deal of work had to be carried out with the help of numerous foreign workers
So the so-called foreign worker
system actually has existed
in Singapore for a long time and is not something that has
emerged only in recent years Of course as we've seen from
the perspectives of both Singaporeans and foreign workers
But if we look at it from another perspective
I wonder if everyone would see a different outcome
For instance if we approach it from a business standpoint
or consider it from the boss's point of view
There might be a different outcome this time
Actually it's quite simple
If were company owners
what we want is very straightforward
simply to cut costs
and to increase efficiency
so from the range of market options available
It's naturally because
people who are cheaper more
practical and more flexible are chosen so in this realistic context there's
a tendency to rely more on
foreign workers which is why
we end up seeing this trend
Why do so
many Singapore employers
prefer hiring foreign workers
over local Singaporeans Of course
this refers to some cases not all
Good now that we're here
let's conduct another thought experiment
—imagine a scenario
where overnight every
foreign worker suddenly
left Singapore—everyone without exception
All foreign workers
Under such circumstances
will wages actually rise
Will it truly enable many Singaporeans
to find employment
This is a question worth pondering
Of course we can be certain that if all
foreign workers left many job openings would
certainly emerge but
will wages definitely rise
and will these positions necessarily be filled
This is something that may not necessarily happen
What we need to consider is
whether foreign workers are
truly taking away Singaporeans' livelihoods or if
it's actually a structural
issue So strictly speaking
It's not that outsiders are taking jobs
away from locals—rather the local job
market has been shrinking all along
Alright that's all I'd like to share today
Many Singaporeans feel that their job
opportunities and prospects
have been taken over
by the large number of foreign workers—what
are your thoughts on this issue Do you agree
Or are you against it
We welcome everyone to leave comments below the video
to share your thoughts
Alright that's all for today's episode
See you in the
next one Bye-bye
