At the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships out here in Adelaide, and they serve like it too.
And there is a big, booming jump serve from Paul Burnett. That's how you start a match.
Off on a little sabbatical, and so he's a little rusty. Henato, meanwhile, no rust at all.
Sweet digs were put away in transition.
Top three for sure.
And that's a big block from Andre. Uncoverable from Hodges.
And they are going to need all of those blocks from Andre. As Burnett and Hodges make it.
Hodges high swing. Andre's on it. And Andre had to go and delivers it.
Andre again gets his hands on it. Play still a lot. And Henato filling in.
And Hodges throwing Henato down on the joust. Crowd also having a good time. Excellent serve.
Hodges having to chase this one inside. Going with it. What a pickup from Henato,
but he can't get it over the net. Nice feet to ball from Hodges. And a nice jump going with the flow.
Wheeling around. It's going to be a free ball. Nice pickup from Henato.
Big chance for Australia to take the lead. Hodges opened that on two. The chicken wing
dig is out of bounds. Well-traveled fan base on the Beach Pro Tour, and they are
at least half the stance here in Australia. And there's a huge block for Hodges out of the timeout.
All is going right for for Australia. Perfect feet. And then he jumps into the angle. Drags
that right. And the double up into the angle is recognized by Hodges. And he powers one down the
line. Big jump serve incoming from Henato. It's trouble for Hodges. What a set from Paul Burnett.
The long-range roll-up from Paul Burnett. Coach Brad fired up about it. Set point now for the
Aussies. And Burnett's got a swing for the set. And he's got it. The first set goes to Australia.
She is psyched. That's that kind of energy we love to see.
Big serve from Burnett. And then the timing down the line. Andre couldn't have seen it.
He's now one set away from potentially getting knocked out of these world championships.
Sweet dig from Henato. And he's powering that one. And Hodges calling his own touch.
Another big serve from Henato. Hodges working his way out there. Nobody home.
Pulling on Thomas Hodges. What a dig here from Burnett. Hodges trying to roll him up. He does.
What a set. Andre's second time of asking. And now it'll be Hodges transition. And Hodges
with an off-speed put away. And that's a huge block from Andre. Return to sender. That's the
danger of serving Australia short. You want to do it to take their legs out for the big swing.
But that brings into discussion the option. Burnett now opportunity to draw within two.
And it's Andre again with a block. That is the x-factor for Brazil. Is the Andre blocking.
Beautiful work by Andre. Henato sizzling at jumping. Another block for Andre. Make it back
to back blocks for the Brazilian big man. And we go into the technical timeout with Brazil leading
13-8 after a system here for Hodges. What a bump set from Burnett. Wow what a turn down the line
from Hodges. The long range bump setting from Paul Burnett. Better pass this time from Hodges.
And just dangling the baby line teardrop over Andre. Been mixing up the depths and speeds
very well in this second set. Which hangs and then Andre jumps into the angle. And that has
been dangerous from the end line. Trouble here for Henato. Sets inside. Burnett's on it. This set's
also inside. Burnett is on it again. Turning it back to the line. And the lead's down to one.
It was 13-8 at the tech. It was 16-10. Sets outside the antenna. Henato powers one through
the block. Thomas Hodges. What will it be? Henato has got it. Seal it. The 21-19 victory that was
closer than I think anybody would have expected when you're training every single day. Third set
underway. Going to Henato just like coach wanted. Going to Andre, pardon me, just like coach wanted.
Andre puts away. Wow what a serve from Tom Hodges. Keep that in mind. That 16-10 lead that ended up
only being a 21-19 victory could come up important. Covered arena as the ball moves funky.
What a block from Andre. The sprint block. And Hodges, I have that as long. Both, the rest have it as in.
Beacon of power. Henato bringing it. And Hodges, are you kidding me? Andre almost
seals the on two. While the passing hasn't been super consistent, he's starting to just be in a
rhythm. Nice timing on the move down the line for Burnett to take the lead now for Australia and
he's got it. The aim was to make Andre work. Andre high. Hands of Hodges but not before the
damage was done. It's tight. Andre's there for the throw down. Hodges working a rare back set around now
and he sends that one into the stands. Double angle blocks are the call. Wouldn't be surprised
if Andre goes Rome. It's going to be a free ball. Andre to seal up the match and he's got it.
Bianchi down the line. Locks in the three-set victory for Brazil. The pool of death
has gone full pool of death but what a thriller.
