Nick Uhas brought chemistry to AGT in Season 12, turning science into a full-blown spectacle. From explosive experiments to unforgettable reactions, it was a moment the judges didn’t forget.
My name is Nick Yuhas, I'm from Columbus, Ohio,
and I'm a science teacher, but for the masses.
Were you like a science fair geek?
So kind of, yeah. So both my parents are teachers,
and education has always been like the focus of the family unit.
I ended up going to college for science,
and became a published chemist, and I loved it.
I'm here because I believe that science
could be the most epic show in Vegas.
It's chemistry, you never know what could go wrong.
Exactly, and on that note...
Okay, so who are you?
My name is Nick Yuhas, I am 32 years old,
and I make science videos for the internet.
Okay, so why did you enter the show this year?
I love science, and there's probably no bigger stage than this.
This is an act you think is worth a million dollars
and can win the whole show?
Oh, yeah.
Because science is that cool.
That's a little hard to believe.
Best of luck.
Okay, here we go.
Okay, so in these two balloons, I have a gas
that is very different than helium.
You take in helium, your voice goes higher.
So what do you think is going to happen?
It goes lower.
Well, I guess we're just going to have to find out.
So just like helium, they're going to really take it all in.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God, my voice is even deeper.
I am your worst nightmare.
Hello? Oh, my God.
Okay, it does not stop.
We have more science experiments, but I need two more people.
I'll bump here.
Okay, let's roll.
Okay, this is the table of science.
First thing we're going to do is we're going to put on goggles.
We have a lab coat.
See, put them on.
How confused can you be?
This is 35% hydrogen peroxide.
It's very dangerous stuff.
What is in this little container right here is called potassium iodide.
It is a catalyst.
A catalyst makes the reaction go faster.
Great.
So what we're going to do is we're going to mix these two together,
and we're going to make a reaction go really fast.
I want you to do it, like, a little closer down here.
I don't want it to splash anywhere, right?
And then you have to run.
We're going to do it on 3, 2, 1.
Back up, back up.
All right, so we're going to make our way over here.
We got one more.
Okay.
This is all you, buddy.
We have two things here.
We have liquid nitrogen, which is negative 321 degrees Fahrenheit.
It's very cold.
We have boiling hot water over here.
Put this on.
That?
Oh, yeah.
Safety first.
You're going to try to get all of that hot water into this trash can
all in one swoop.
Without dying.
Okay.
And then you're going to back up.
Run.
As fast as you can.
Oh, my God.
Really?
Jump and run, Halim.
Yeah.
I think you should count him down, though.
You need to count down.
Why is everybody going away?
Howie, be careful.
Be careful.
I'm nervous.
All right.
Let's do it.
This is where you give your best mad scientist.
I really thought with that big poof that you were going to disappear.
Let's give him critiques with the balloons.
I thought what you did was wonderful, and I'm going to give you your first.
Yeah.
I really want you to come back and make Howie disappear.
So I'm going to give you your second.
Yes.
Thank you.
You're going to get a yes from the culminator.
Thank you.
I thought it was absolutely terrific.
No.
It's a yes from me.
Oh, my.
It's ridiculous.
