To pass a B2 exam or feel confident in a professional setting
You absolutely need a few advanced vocabulary words at the B2 level
So today we're doing a vocabulary exercise
First we take the adjective groundbreaking
I'll give you an example sentence
The company has developed a groundbreaking technology that saves energy
What could groundbreaking mean
That means completely new and innovative especially
In other words the company has developed a unique new technology
one that will essentially transform everything
Also in this sense meaning something is particularly new and
innovative For example even from research or similar fields
Her research findings were so groundbreaking that they earned her multiple awards
That means they were truly incredible
Also new and will undoubtedly transform much in this field
Now we take another very fitting adjective: far-reaching
I'll give you an example
This government decision could have far-reaching consequences for the economy
So what could that mean
Extensive always means it involves various possibly different
areas industries people and so
on—many different aspects involved
In such a case far-reaching consequences for the economy
So this could potentially affect various
industries different companies workers and so on
Likewise one could say this invention could bring significant improvements to everyday life
By far-reaching improvements we simply mean advancements across various aspects of life
Maybe it could make our lives a little easier
Now let's look at it precisely
That is also a very nice adjective at an advanced level
For instance the instructions must be extremely precise so that everyone can understand them
What could this mean
Also very precise detailed and accurate
Also precise means truly very exact so that everyone can understand it
Precise sounds much more elegant and refined than very accurate which is exactly right
Likewise you could say he created a precise analysis of the problem
Extremely accurate and detailed analysis
Now we're also taking something very useful and right away
For instance the patient had to be operated on immediately
What does that mean
Immediately means right away without delay
He therefore had to undergo surgery immediately
Similarly one could say or write for example
Please reply to this email immediately
It is urgent
Reply right away
Now let's take a very useful verb: to counteract
something For example exercise can counteract back pain
What could this possibly mean
Counteracting actually means reducing something or perhaps even
preventing it altogether—essentially working against a negative trend
This means you can reduce your back pain by moving especially with plenty of movement
But you can apply this principle in any context
For example the government is also trying to counter inflation
A separable verb
Yes that's why the particle zu is placed in the middle
That means the government is trying to take certain measures to reduce inflation
And if you're currently preparing linguistically and culturally for job hunting in Germany or for everyday professional life there

Let's take a very useful verb: to relieve someone in the accusative case
What does that mean
For instance new staff should help ease the workload of the team
To relieve means in essence simply to help by having individuals take on specific tasks or responsibilities so that someone else or a team can manage their workload more easily
For instance I can also say that having a household helper would greatly ease my burden
That means she could help me greatly as she’d take on tasks like cleaning or cooking freeing up more time for me to focus on other things
Now let's take someone who misses something
I'll give you a sample sentence from a professional context right away
Let's say a colleague tells you she apparently completely missed the fact that the deadline expired yesterday
You didn’t seem to notice it at all You
apparently missed or forgot the deadline
And that's what it means to miss something—either you completely
fail to notice it or in the worst case you miss it entirely
For instance I was recently at theater and it truly hit me how much people without German language skills are missing out on in Germany
That means how much these people miss out on simply because they can't casually go to the cinema or theater thus missing out on a part of life—something truly truly unfortunate
That's precisely why I always say you should learn German for the sake of your own quality of life
Now let's look at the verb "to diminish " for example in terms of motivation quality strength or anything else
For instance his concentration begins to wane if he works too long
What could that mean
That naturally means less will be produced
He will therefore be less focused or for instance demand for the product has significantly declined
That means it has decreased significantly
Finally today we'll actually address the verb "ansprechen" in the accusative case
I recently asked in conversation class: What's the difference between addressing something and discussing it
Let me give you an example first
Let's say you simply tell a colleague at work
Well I think we should finally address this issue openly
What could this possibly mean
That means we should finally start talking about it bring it up openly actually say out loud what the real problem is
That means we only mention the problem
We don't go into detail yet but at least we acknowledge that there is an issue
That's the difference between discussing something casually and truly delving into the details thoroughly exploring it so to speak
I can give you another example Suppose you go to
your boss and right at the start of the conversation you say
Also I’d like to address something that’s truly important to me
—that is I’m going to mention something that’s close to my heart
That doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily discuss it but I’d like to share my thoughts
To make this video especially effective for you you can now pick two words from the video and write two example sentences in the comments
That way you can internalize it and practice right away
As always thank you for watching and I wish you great success in your continued German studies
We'll see each other again very soon
