A Cozy Winter Day in Alaska while Living in my Vehicle

Today was one of the first days I've woken up in weeks where there was just no frost on my
windows at all. So we're definitely getting a rainy above freezing spell right now in Seward
and all the way to Anchorage. I'm about 30 minutes from Anchorage because it's been rainy in Seward
for the past few days but also freezing. So I still was getting the frost but right now my
windows waking up they were completely clear which I liked it. I like not having to defrost
my windows but the rain getting a bit tired of that because I can only have so many rainy days
living out of a vehicle before I start to go a little bit crazy as if I'm not already
a little crazy. So I decided to leave Seward yesterday and head into the big city Anchorage
so I could actually enjoy these rainy days a little bit more just by doing stuff indoors.
I really want to go to a roller skating rink today that I see all the time when I'm in the
city. I always pass it so roller skating and just a cozy day indoors. This is this is my life when
it's rainy. Now when it's snowing I'm gonna try to get outside and do some fun winter activities
but I'm just not trying to do activities when it's raining outside. I know a lot of people in
Alaska do they do not let the rain stop them but I don't want to be bringing a bunch of wet
gear inside my vehicle because the only place I really have to store gear right now is on my bed.
So I can clean a little bit of snow off a lot easier than I can dry off super wet clothing
and gear. So yeah rainy days they're spent indoors for me 100 percent but uh
all right let's get driving. I need coffee and breakfast.
Good morning Alaska! How is this just an average highway view in Alaska? How?
This is a iced americano with eggnog cold foam. How festive. This is a
mushroom and gouda bagel. I have never been here before but I've seen it
many times and I've wanted to come in here so today is the day. That's beautiful. Killed it.
Be tasty. Not as good as the coffee though. That was nice. It might have only seemed like
I was in there for a few minutes but I was really in there for about two hours.
If I ever respond to your comments very fast it's because I'm sitting in a coffee shop
somewhere in Alaska doing just that. Yeah mostly just responding to comments and then the other
half of the time I'm staring at a wall thinking about absolutely nothing. It's really nice.
Shower bag. Come here. Oh there you are. Come here. How cute. Oh my goodness. That jeep is
really making me want to decorate my forerunner for Christmas. What do you think you guys? Should
I? I kind of want to. The real reason I want to is because I don't use my roof rack if y'all
haven't noticed that. I've never used it. The only thing my roof rack has carried is a lot of snow
but wouldn't that be cool to wrap some lights or something around it? Give it some use.
Shower time. This is gonna be so nice. So nice. It is time to go roller skating.
I'm very excited. I haven't used my new skates in a rink so yeah super stoked.
What is this vehicle doing? I guess he wanted to get in the... is he going is he going right
straight left? I'm confused. Oh my god look at the little roller skate you guys. Look at it.
Very retro baby. I wonder how long that's been there. Okay. I'm kind of hungry. I'm gonna eat a
meat stick before I go in there so I don't have to buy some expensive roller skate french fries.
What do we have in the goodie box? Just some chomps. Taco seasoned beef stick. What is life?
They have they have everything these days. They should make a cheeseburger flavored one.
I think that sounds tasty. Another day another meat stick.
Oh god. I have been to hundreds of roller skating rinks in my life.
That was the first time anything like this has ever happened. I'm kind of unbaffled right now.
So if you're wondering why I'm sitting here not skating and back in the car. When I went to
pay for the admission I told them I had my own skates. She was like let me see your skates.
So like here they are. Here's my skates. Like I didn't know what she was looking at. She was like
oh we don't allow those because they have the black toe stop. We we we banned having black toe
stops because it makes bad marks all over the rink in there. What? You guys. Never in my life.
That's crazy. For one most people that have skates the toe stops are black. So
she gave me two options. She was like you can either purchase different color
toe stops right there and switch them out. Toe stops are $25 or I can use their
rental skates that are included in the $12 admission. No. No thank you.
It might be snobby of me and I don't know what you guys are going to think of this but I'm just not
I'm not supporting any of that. That is just not right. If you're saying some skates can
come in and some skates can't based on the color of the toe stops.
You know and if this was a common thing maybe I'd be more accepting of it but it's not. I've never
heard of this in my life. I think they said their rink is tile and not wooden so I guess that does
make a difference. But regardless for someone to be like let me see your skates. Oh your toe
stops are the wrong color so nope you can't skate in those. I mean hey it's their business
so whatever they want to do but they're not getting my business. I don't like using rental skates
because thousands of people wear those and they're often really old and crickety and they
don't skate good. I don't even feel safe using rental skates most of the time so there's a
reason why I have my own because I'm really comfortable in these and I skate well in these.
So yeah that's a bummer. I was definitely excited to go skating but I'm I'm if I bought
the toe stops and switched them out $25 and then paid for the skate rental that would have been
$37 just for me to go skating for one afternoon and that's that's absurd. I'm not doing that.
Oh man what are we gonna do you guys? What are we gonna do?
I think it was all meant to be you guys because I just discovered pretty sure there's an outdoor
ice skating rink that is actually open. I didn't think there would be any outdoor rinks open
because I don't really know how that works but it's been above freezing for the past few days
so I didn't know if uh maybe they'd be closed because it's not safe but it says online that
they're open and I have a pair of ice skates in my 4runner so maybe we're gonna go ice skating
instead and I've been wanting to ice skate all month so let's go see if this rink is open.
Oddly enough I did not like Anchorage during the summer. I basically avoided this city
at all costs. You did not see me make any YouTube videos in Anchorage over the summer
at least not that I can think of off the top of my head
but I really like it in the winter. It just turns into a different city. There's less tourists,
it's not as busy. Granted it still is a city so it's not like it's completely quiet like somewhere
like Seward during the winter but there's just there's a lot of stuff to do around Anchorage
in the winter. It's open! The skating ribbon is open! You guys I'm so happy I could literally
cry right now. I'm gonna get to go ice skating outside in Alaska! Oh my god!
Oh it's the little things isn't it? I bought these like a month ago.
Yes I did buy girly pink ice skates. Don't judge me. Alright real talk it's been years
since I've been ice skating. Never been very good at it so the goal here is to just not fall.
That's the only goal. Oh man there's a wing stop right over there. I love wing stop.
We're not going there though, no. This is actually such a good day for ice skating because
it's not freezing cold outside. I mean it's 32 degrees so it is freezing but for Alaska that's
not bad at all. So I'm extra happy you guys! Oh my god it all worked out didn't it?
Alright you guys it's time to see if I can actually skate or not. I'm a little scared.
All these little kids are out there killing it. I don't want to embarrass myself but I might.
Way too loose. I gotta um tighten these bad boys up. I can't believe
that would have cost me $37 to go roller skate you guys and this is free. F-R-E-E baby.
There's a lot of free fun things to do in Alaska if you like the great outdoors and I don't know
why you would even be in Alaska if you don't like the great outdoors. So I'm just a baby. I'm a
beginner. Hey but I'm going. I'm going round and round. Round and round she goes. Worse she falls.
Look at this skate scope baby. Yeah.
I'm low-key having the time of my life right now.
Oh my god I'm so happy. I kind of want to try to do a crossover so I can cross over in roller
skates but I don't know maybe I shouldn't risk it. Maybe I should actually. All right crossover.
Oh god I could yeah we got this. I don't know how to cross. Whoa
Ice skating in Alaska. Who else is stoked that the roller skating rink didn't work out?
Just me? Okay. It's time to go get a warm bowl of soup. Yes siree. Should I do that guys?
Christmas lights on top of my 4Runner? Let me know in the comments yes or no. I don't know.
I mean it probably would look really freaking sweet. I don't know if I should do Christmas
lights or just put a green spiral wreath thing around it. You know what I'm talking about?
Like the green grass. The green holiday grass. Not that kind of grass. All right off to our
almost final destination. Yipperdoodles it's not too busy. I was worried it was going to be too
busy. I want the beet and mint salad. Do you have that? I should yeah. Okay I'd like to add a cup of
soup and I also want to get a blocktail. The rosemary apple fizz sounds good. Cheers. You're tasty.
Thank you. This looks so good. Oh my gosh. So this is garden veggie butternut squash
soup. Yum yum yum yum yum. Smells so divine. Oh my god.
Oh my gosh. It's so beautiful. You see why I love this place? The vibes. They're 10 out of 10. Cozy
bookstore with delicious fresh healthy food. 12 out of 10. Did I say 10? No 12.
Soup is delicious. Oh thank you so much. I have some refilling. Oh my gosh thank you.
He just said if I finish the soup that I could have some more. I guess they have a decent amount
left today. Look at that. Beet, feta, walnuts, and a honey vinaigrette. I'm in love. All this food was
not that expensive too. So the soup and the salad was together was $15 and then the cocktail was 10.
Very normal price even for the lower 48. And Alaska is extremely expensive so to be able to
have this nice meal for $25 I'm pretty pleased with that. Yep very pleased. So beautiful.
This is one of those salads that you can tell it's very easy to make. The beets, the feta,
the fresh mint, the candied walnuts, and then whatever kind of dressing they made.
But it just feels feels gourmet. Sometimes I feel like that's how food is though.
The simplest things are the most delicious to me. Like just a basic steak. As long as that
steak is really good quality, you don't need to do anything to it. Literally nothing. If it's
really good, barely need salt and pepper. Just throw it on a grill, cook it, and voila. Serve it with a
couple vegetables, sautéed in butter and garlic. That's it. All these things that have a million
ingredients. Thumbs down from me. The simpler the better. I feel like that's true in so many aspects
of life. The simpler the better. I feel like I'm having a real conversation with you guys
in the bookstore. Like y'all are sitting right across from me. I love Alaska. I love this place.
Hold. I've been talking for two minutes. Man, I need to shut up.
