Meet Bridget and Tom and tour there EXTREMELY RARE PanAmerica Airstream! This Airstream is 34 feet long and INCLUDES an 11 foot garage for toys. Only 18 of these gems were produced and Bridget and Tom snatched one up for their travels. Together, they bike, kayak, motorcycle and DragonBoat race, and this beautiful Airstream gives them the room they need to store everything. Take a look!
This is the door to the garage. Oh that's great. Hey Tom. Hey everybody it's Robin
with Creativity RV and I'm here in Laughlin Nevada with Bridget and Tom. Say
hi guys. Hi. And they have the most amazing Airstream I think I've ever seen.
I was walking through the parking lot today and I had to come up and talk to
them because this Airstream actually has a garage in the back where they store
their motorcycle and all their bicycles and everything and they've been nice
enough to give us an interview. So guys tell us about your Airstream and how
you found it and your life on the road. It's a 2009 and there's 18 of them made in
North America and my lovely wife went online and the reason why I went
online to find this is I knew there was Airstreams made in Ohio and I wasn't
aware anything about Airstreams for the garages and my husband wanted to buy a
fifth wheel and I didn't want a fifth wheel and I wanted an Airstream. So I
went online thinking oh there's no way I'm gonna find anything that's gonna
accommodate both of us but anyways there it was. There was about four of them
on the market across the states and the closest one was just below us about an
hour's drive and it was it's a Pan America and like my husband said there's
18 of them made and we went and bought it and we've been on the road for about
nine years, not full-time, two months out of the year we take off. We're snowbirds
and it holds everything we need. It's amazing and why do you think there were
only 18 made? Well they were made in between 2008 and 2009 and it was the
time in our lives when the market you know was bad and Ohio decided not to
make any more because there was no market for them at that time. People were
losing their homes. Recreational you know vehicles where people weren't
buying them. So they went to us a smaller one instead of the big
ones. Like the Bambi. Yeah like a Bambi for the 34 footer this is 34 foot with
11 foot garage and it's not for everybody. It's quite heavy. What's
your gas mileage? I'm getting about 14 to 15 which is really good. That's
really good. I mean for this I'm surprised by that. This is 12,008 pounds and I can put
2,500 pounds in the garage. Wow and so you guys boondock a lot. Do you have
solar? Yeah solar. How much solar do you have? Two panels that came with it and
it's enough for us. You know like we were just camping at Mesa for a month and it
cost us $7.43 in power because this model it takes solar power first
and then the electricity is like second. So it's really inexpensive right to you
know. They're more expensive to buy but you know in the long run it's very
economical. We were in a place in Palm Springs where they changed the meter
twice. So that's when you guys are plugged in. Yeah we're plugged in. You
were telling me earlier that you plug in just in the beginning and then you go
out and boondock and that solar sustains you when you're boondocking? As long as
there's a sun you know. We can sustain. Do you have a generator? Yeah I
have a generator for cloudy days. As a backup? As a backup. And how much water do you
have in here for storage? Fresh water 54 pounds or 54 gallons. Oh that's nice.
Yeah that's great. And the black tank is 37 or 34 and 40 for the gray. So it's
lots of water. You're good for a week if you're careful. Yeah and Bridget and Tom
are super active. They kayak and they bike and tell us about your hobby really
quick. I was fascinated to hear about her hobby. Oh my dragon boating. My dragon
boating? Yeah. I'm a dragon boater. Yeah. A 70 year old dragon boater. Yeah. And I'm
competitive and so during the rest of the year I train with a coach
and and we're heading off to the Pan Am Games 2019 to compete. Nice. Well we'll
all look for you and wish you the best of luck. Thank you. So would you mind
showing us the inside of your rig? Sure. Thank you. The kitchen area and the
dinette and this will fold down into a three-quarter bed and so you can bring
your grandchildren if you wish. And then he's going to take the motorcycle out.
We're gonna go for a ride later. Oh that's great. Mobile printer, microwave
here. Oh wow. And then I put for vegetables and stuff like that. I made it out of a
milk carton. A little lock there and I of course will carry drinking water here
and then I put underneath here pots and pans. Oh that's great. And so this is all
in the garage behind your Airstream or inside your Airstream. Just extra and
then when you're using the microwave I made this little table that swivels
when the bike is in here. I love how it matches the decor. Yes. Well done.
Yeah. And then your clothes. My clothes and riding gear. Love it. And this is with
the motorcycle moved outside. It is just huge in here. Wow. So you could fit a lot
of stuff in here. Yes if you didn't have a motorcycle. Like your kayaks. Yes. Wow.
This is great for people that like to be in the outdoors and they have a lot of
gear for that. This is ideal. Yeah. And they didn't even skimp on the windows
here in the garage which is amazing. Well awesome. Tom if you were gonna say
anything to anybody who might want to do this. Any words of advice? Make sure you
have solar panels. Solar panels are a must. Okay. For a nice quiet. Got it. Yeah.
Great. Okay. Thanks so much. And you've got an oven all gas-fired. The fridge is
gas-fired and with propane. You really have a lot of counter space here. Yes
actually it's not bad for a you know an RV. Yeah. Some of them are a lot less. And
you have a lot of windows in here. Yes it's very skylight with dome and storage
underneath the seats here. Great. And then when you turn around into the bedroom
area. The and the flooring is like continual lino. It's all one piece. It's
not it's all one. Oh that's nice. All the way through so there's no seams to
consider you know. Yeah. And and then you've got a television in the this
living area here and then there's another TV in the bedroom. Great. And of
course there's storage under the bed. And then the shower is on the right side
over here. Want to show it to us? The shower is in here. Oh wow. Yeah. That's the shower. Oh my gosh. I don't know if
people can tell but this is a huge door for a shower. Uh-huh. That's nice. Is it a
wet bath? It's just it's got a seat in it. It's like oh like a stand-up shower.
Can I get a shot of that? Yeah. It's uh we've got a laundry in there right now.
My whole shower is full of stuff. My shower is like a storage area. And that's a good size for an RV as well.
Oh it's so beautiful with the curved ceiling. Oh and the little rail to make
sure things don't fall down. Oh this is great. What a find. And then this is the
bedroom. Nice big window. Double bed and the second TV. Not that you need two
televisions in an RV but. It's nice to be able to lay in bed and watch something
if you want. Yeah. Yeah. And we pick up stations off our antenna when we're out
in the desert as well. Mm-hmm. And yeah this is great. Very comfortable. And then
you have a fantastic fan up here. Uh-huh. Yeah. That'll keep it cool. There's also air
conditioning but we hardly ever use it. It remains really cool in here. The
insulation is so that we don't even use air conditioning. Yeah. So if there's
anybody that's thinking about doing this and they think it might be fun but
they're not sure, do you have any words of advice for them? Well I'd say rent rent
an RV first. Okay. And then if you decide you want an RV whether on a part-time or
full-time basis, then try different models, different makes, you know. Whatever
you know would be conducive to your lifestyle. Mm-hmm. You know whether you
need a garage, whether you need you know in a fifth wheel, or whether you know
you're into the airstreaming. And we belong to the WBCCI which is the
Airstream Club. Oh fun. And there's lots of rallies and caravans that you can get
involved with. So it's very social. So it can't be social if you want it to be
solitary if you want it to be. So much fun. Yeah. Yeah so much fun. So that's something you can
consider if you want to be part of a club but not want to camp on your own.
Sure. It's it's an option. Great. How do you find your campsites? How do we find
them? Well first of all they were I think word-of-mouth to begin with nine years
ago. And then we just ventured out and we talked to people. And RVers are
very friendly people. They'll give you their little golden nuggets. Yes. Their
finds, where to go, where you get your best you know recreation sites. State
parks are wonderful in the United States. Oh aren't they? We love the state parks. And there's
county parks. Yeah. That are so you know there's some of them even offer you
cable which is really unheard of. Right. But really reasonably priced, very clean.
Yeah. Yeah. Hiking trails. Hiking trails. Yeah. California and Arizona are
wonderful. Yes they are. You really try Colorado. Colorado. It's gonna be on our
bucket list. Yeah. Yeah. Well we have more time. Says the girl from Colorado. Oh yeah.
To promote Colorado. That's awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Well thank you so much. Oh you're
welcome. Talking to me and you guys have safe travels and thanks a lot. Again this
is Robin with Creativity RV. Please like and subscribe and if you have any
