Video Summary
AI GeneratedJohn, a full-time van dweller, explores the Isle of Portland, visiting the Portland Bill Lighthouse, Pulpit Rock, and Chesil Beach. He discusses the geological significance of Portland stone, the security restrictions on drones, and the logistical and mental challenges of van life, including parking difficulties and the use of a strict, repetitive diet to manage health and decision fatigue.
Wow, look at the shelf of rock here, this is wicked look
at that going along, that's awesome isn't it
Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
this is the what's supposed to be look like a bible
oh there's not one part of me that enjoyed coming down that
I'm not.
views
for days mate
feels like
if i go down
there i'm not
coming back
up well i was
supposed to be online for about half an hour this morning
and uh four hours later we're here
That's genuinely how my mornings go sometimes.
Anyway, we are on the Isle of Portland,
which technically isn't actually an island.
It's more of a peninsula.
I'll show you.
I'll put a map on the screen and then you guys can see it.
But it's yeah, it's a peninsula.
It's coming off of the Dorset south coast here on the south of England.
So yeah, we're on the Isle of Portland.
We're going to go do a bit of exploring.
Got a few sights to see.
Parking has become a real issue in the UK, or I say the UK, in England.
There's a few spots that I have stayed in before
on the Isle of Portland when I've come over here
and since I was here last time,
majority of them you can't stay out overnight anymore.
There's been loads of signs put up and yeah,
it's a real problem and it's just due to like...
It's really frustrating and it really really got to me yesterday
because it's just due to people
like leaving rubbish behind, human waste,
all those sorts of things which then just ruin it for
everyone else. It really does suck and it's really frustrating
but it's one of those things you know
so nonetheless we're gonna go and have
a good time today we're gonna go and do a little bit
of exploring. I'm gonna take you guys,
I'm gonna go and show you the lighthouse and there's a
couple of other cool locations around the island
that we're gonna go and look at and um
Yeah, we're going to have ourselves a little explore.
But if this is your first time watching one of my videos
and you're new to the channel, welcome.
My name is John and I live
and travel full-time out of my self-converted camper van.
I'm going to put the lights on so you guys can see
because it's a little bit dark.
There you go.
But yeah, I travel full-time in my self-converted camper van
and have done for the past couple of years.
And yeah, I spent the last like, well,
the first half of this year I was off in Scotland
exploring all the Highlands
and all of the amazing stuff that was up there.
If you wanna go check out those videos,
there's a playlist on the channel, you can go and do that.
But currently, like I say, we're in Portland,
on the south of England,
and we're gonna be exploring this place today
and then finding a cool camp spot tonight,
cooking some good food and having a good time.
So if you're into like van life, hiking, camping,
finding cool camp spots, cooking good food
and all of the things in between,
then maybe consider subscribing.
It'd be great to have you here and yeah,
welcome to the channel, appreciate you being here.
Right now I'm going to see how this
Video is doing. Oh, I think we're done.
That's a first. Let me see here. Yeah, we are golden.
So I've got one more email to do.
Let me double check here a second. Yeah, I've got a couple of
emails. I just need to quickly check and then we can,
yeah, and then we can get on the road.
All right, I think I'm just about done.
So I think what I'm going to do is have myself a little
wash real quick, put everything away in the van,
need to get my contacts in, if you know, you know,
and then we'll get ourselves to the Portland Bill Lighthouse,
which is up the other end of
Portland, so we're gonna go there.
And we can actually go up inside the lighthouse,
walk up the stairs and go right to the top
where the light is, which is gonna be really cool.
Think it's like over a hundred steps or something.
So yeah, we're gonna go down, we're gonna check that out.
We've got to pay to go in and do it,
but I'll tell you about that when we're en route there.
So yeah, I'll see you guys in a moment.
And we're done.
Time to go.
Change my t-shirt as well,
so I'm a little more comfortable.
Okay.
And I know quite a few of you have reached out
and been asking me what's it like living in the van during this heat.
Yeah, I think it might be cooler having
an apartment on the surface of the sun right now.
That's been a bit dramatic. It's hot. It's very hot.
So obviously I have my Maxxair fans and I
have my little cooler and stuff in the back,
but yeah, it still does get very, very warm.
When it's kind of 25, 26 degrees, it's not too bad,
but when it starts getting up around the
30 degrees and over, that's this, or hang on, this.
in Fahrenheit for uh my American friends anything over kind
of 30 degrees yeah it gets a little kind
of difficult to deal with clean the lens a bit there we go oh
but you know what we get by we
make do it's all good all right let's see where
we're going shall we 10 minute drive to get to
the end uh let me just check here yeah 10 minute
drive cool there's actually the quarry um
Right down the end of this kind of industrial estate I'm staying
on there's the entrance to the quarry or where they keep all
the I don't know diggers and stuff for the quarry
and that's one of the things that Portland is actually most famous for.
Yeah so the island's Portland stone
that's found here has actually been quarried for
over three centuries
and was actually used to build St Paul's Cathedral, I think the UN
headquarters I read rightly,
and the facade on Buckingham Palace which I think is really
Really cool.
And hopefully at a couple of points today,
we'll have a, oh my God, what are people doing?
Oh some people honestly.
Yeah hopefully at some point today or we will at a couple of points
today you'll um you'll be able to have a good look
at the um the kind of stone the quarries
and stuff. I think we can actually even go
and have a look around a quarry a bit later on well
an abandoned quarry one that's kind
of been like finished I don't know what you call that but
anyway uh one that's not being used anymore a derelict quarry
so yeah we'll uh we'll go have
a look around
there as well
which would
be cool.
It's certainly
busy hashtag
summer
holidays.
This is where in hindsight I would have got here four hours ago.
All right cool we can park up here, hang the back end over the grass
and that's
the lighthouse.
Pretty cool isn't it?
So we can go up
the top of that
apparently. We'll see how busy it is. Hopefully we can go up.
Shouldn't be too busy, the car park's
not like full. Just gonna have a look and see how much it is.
Let's have a let's have a bit
of amusement shall we? Ah here we go.
Summer, 30 minutes to an hour, £3.20.
One to two hours, £4.80, two to three hours, £6.30, summer charges.
This is an AMPR, paid public car park,
licence plate would be red, yadda yadda yadda.
Okay, cool.
So we pay on exit, so what's the time?
12.39.
I reckon a couple of hours.
I reckon a couple of hours to get up
there, get down and have a look around.
Let's see if we can get him around.
There's no...
Well, I'm going to finish my drink
and then we'll go get ourselves a ticket and go up
the lighthouse.
Probably not going to do lunch or take any
lunch with me, I'll probably just have a
fuel when I get back
because I'm not actually that hungry at the moment.
Right then.
Let's rock and roll,
shall we?
So not everyone who parks in this car park
is here to go up the lighthouse.
To be honest, there's probably not gonna be
that many people up there,
because you've got the lobster pot here,
which is like a restaurant place.
You've got loads of people over there doing,
is it orienteering, orienteering, orienteering?
I don't know, name here.
Where you do jumping off cliffs and all sorts.
And then you've got all these walks that kind of go out here as well,
so there's probably loads of people over there.
Well, yeah, let's go see what we can see.
Cool looking lighthouse, isn't it? It's like a traditional lighthouse.
Hey, how you doing buddy, you alright? Yeah good, thank you, yourself?
I've got the lighthouse. So you've got to go up on a
tour to go to the top. Okay.
So the next one will be about quarter past one. Okay, cool.
Unless you wanted to just quickly jump up
and explain what you want to do.
Yeah, I can do quarter past one. Yeah,
I'll come back at quarter past one.
Yeah, okay. All right, thanks bud.
All right, so it looks like we can't go up on our own. We've got to do
a tour with a group of people or just on my own.
Which is £9.50, so the next one goes up in 25 minutes-ish.
So we'll take a walk down here first, and then we'll go back
in and get ourselves a tour of the lighthouse, which will be cool.
But yeah, look, this is where we are. This is the lighthouse.
And then whatever that stone is there.
And yeah, I don't know too much about it down here,
to be honest with you.
I mean, it looks like stone was quarried here, to be honest.
i don't know they could have quarried
the stone out of here to make the lighthouse
who knows
that's pulpit rock
i think all right
so after a quick
google uh they did
used to quarry here uh there's
the lighthouse look how cool does that look
and then yeah pulpit rock down there it's like a man-made rock stack uh
which is cool there's a guy
like stood underneath it i don't know whether
the camera's gonna pick it up but he's just taking a
photo underneath now which is kind of cool
so we'll go over there i think we've got time and
then this here is a um i don't even know what it
is like a monument thing but apparently it was
built to uh to warn off ships there's like low lying rock here
which extends out like
90 or feet into the sea
so yeah it's like a daytime warning thing apparently yeah
But we'll uh we'll go down and have a look at Pulpit Rock
and then we'll uh come back up and um
yeah go up our lighthouse. Our lighthouse?
The lighthouse. Well there you go you can see kind of
how big it is now. There's a guy climbing up it over there.
It's uh pretty big isn't it? So yeah
it was man-made in like the 1870s I think it was.
The piece of rock that's lent up against it.
It's supposed to resemble a bible kind of lent up against
a church pulpit. I think that's how you
say it. I know nothing about that stuff so yeah
but apparently that's what it's supposed to uh
it's supposed
to resemble.
And there it is.
That's wild cool.
Get some video
of that guy
because there's
there's no way I'm going up there.
I'll happily climb the lighthouse but not climb up that rock.
Wow look at the shelf of rock here this is wicked.
Oh look at that going along. That's awesome isn't it?
Cool view of the lighthouse here as well
and then the monument wherever it is down there somewhere.
Yeah and there's that
guy getting down,
very cool.
That's awesome,
the guy's fishing
down here.
Look at it there look, where it all goes underneath, that's crazy.
And right over there where all the
kind of, you've got all the stacks of rock, that's really cool.
I just want to walk around and um
Going underneath them but I'm a little bit sketched on the heights
because you're quite high up here.
Oh god yeah you're hanging right off the edge. Look at this.
Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
Oh god my legs are shaking. Wow pretty cool isn't it?
I didn't think I hit record then.
Well done.
This is the what's supposed to be look like a bible
and you can climb up there look.
It's way bigger than I thought it would be.
Look at that. Isn't that big? It's huge. Yeah cool.
You could probably jump off the other side,
but something you'll never find me doing, that's for sure.
Wow, oh you've got a cracking view down the coast as well over here.
Didn't even look at that.
You see right on down the coast over there, look.
Awesome. All right then, time to take a slow little walk back
and get up our lighthouse.
We're
in.
History
of
navigation,
look.
Oh that's cool, look at that.
Welcome to Portmanville lighthouse.
My name is Jonathan.
Get
it
to
the
top,
legend.
Good, I've got a massive fear of heights there.
Going down is the...
Yeah, going down is the...
Rather just knock me out and carry me down.
Not one part
of me that
enjoyed
coming down
that.
Mind you, I found it hard going up.
Jesus.
Let's go down here
and get some air
on it.
Gee whiz. Wow.
That is so tall. I don't actually know
how tall it is.
Let me have a quick look, okay so it's kind of embarrassing,
it's 41 meters tall so 131 feet
and it has the spiral staircase of 153 steps
that lead to the lantern room at the top but my god
those steps were so narrow
and like you were so close to the edge that was um that was horrible.
Stunning lighthouse but a horrible experience.
Oh okay well at least I don't have to do that again.
Well I got back to the van like 10 minutes ago
and just fixed myself a a huel for lunch.
and uh was just checking out
our next location uh yeah before i came back to the van i just
spoke to the bloke down there
and uh i just went back in the the center and said to him about
flying drones like have you got any uh advice
because it shows on the drone map or the flight
maps i have that although there are a lot
of parts of portland you can't fly a drone it's
basically a no-fly zone over the whole
of the island it shows that there's an area
It's about a mile radius around the lighthouse where there's
a strong advisory not to fly your
drone but you could fly your drone if you wanted
to but when I went in and spoke to him he said
like basically no the whole the whole island's a no-fly zone
and if you do put it up it can raise
security issues and there have been numerous people
who have got in trouble over the years
for flying drones here. So not only have you got like um
army like royal marines and stuff here as well
but you've also got two prisons
on the isle of portland so uh you can get in trouble
for like flying over the prisons and stuff
and like there's a whole bunch of security issues
when it comes to flying drones here so probably
one of the coolest places you could fly a drone
but it sucks that you can't so yeah that's out
of question so i think i'm going to finish
this and then we're going to head up to the other
car park which is a free car park
which is the opposite end of the island. We're going to go and
park there and then I think there's a cool walk we can
do through one of the old quarries and we can
get a view right down Chesil Beach as well.
So we're going to go and check that out and then
from there I'll probably stay in that car park
to be honest with you and then cook dinner tonight
there. We can't stay there tonight.
I'm half thinking going back on the mainland and finding
somewhere or I might even just drive to Dorchester
and go to the gym later on tonight or
At least get to Dorchester
and then I'm in in Dorchester for for tomorrow to go to the gym
because there's no gym around here either which sucks.
Not even in like Weymouth which is like
on the land close by. So I think that's the plan.
I think we're gonna go free car park, go for a walk
around the quarry, see some cool views,
get some views in and then we'll go find somewhere to park
tonight and then um yeah we'll do that.
I think we can stay here till 10 o'clock. I think that's
the cut off in the car park.
I gotta remember to pay for my parking as well before I leave
Or apply for a loan to pay for my car park.
£4.80, look at that, £4.80.
Dude, drive safely,
thanks.
I never used to look at it too much,
but now that I've started recording all my expenses
on the van and putting it all on my website,
I tend to look at how much I'm spending on car parks
a lot more closely and it's, yeah, it's a thing.
Onto the next.
Let's
go find
ourselves
a free
car park,
shall we?
All right we're here and I forgot to show you just now
um I got two badges when I went to the
lighthouse so I got made it to the top if that comes out on the camera
and then when I got back
down because I was a bit scared the bloke gave me that one
and he said yeah you can have one
of those so I've got a made it back down badge as well
so yeah epic thanks mate legend so there's
There's one thing about the Portland Stone as well, is that it's
so you can see by my tires on the van everything here turns white
when you uh get near the Portland
Stone or the dust of the stone and you can tell like
when you're near quarries and things because
the roads outside that are supposed to be black
are just completely white. So did I lock that?
Did now. Let's go this way
and uh go see some views shall we?
That's a uh that's a monument
look at that that's incredible that looks like it
was put there yesterday blimey it's big isn't it?
So I'm led to believe there's an Olympic monument here
or Olympic rings made out of stone or something like that.
Because in 2012, the London Olympics
and Paralympics sailing events were held in Weymouth and Portland.
So there's loads of stuff here and all the road infrastructure
and everything was changed for the sailing events.
Oh wow, look at that. I was right.
Wow, look at that view, mate. That's stunning.
It's like I made that shot, look at that.
Flowers, views, that's cool.
Look at that,
that's awesome, isn't it?
So there's your Olympic rings made out of the Portland stone.
Weymouth, Portland and Dorset host venue
for the London 2012 Olympic Games sailing events,
29th of July to the 11th of August, 2012.
That's wicked, isn't it?
That view though,
blimey.
Look at that,
wow, stunning,
absolutely
stunning.
Views for days, mate.
All right, so we have got,
see whether we can do some place point in here.
So this is Portland, okay?
This is the town of Portland.
And obviously we're up on the top here
and then the island goes all the way back over there
and we were right at the back.
So this is the town of Portland
and then you've got the kind of, hang on a sec.
Can't see on the camera.
You've got a little bit of land that connects it to the mainland here.
And then this here is Chesil Beach.
So that that goes all the way down is called Chesil Beach.
And that stretches for, I don't know,
I think it's something like 14, 16 miles, something like that.
And if you keep following the coast all the way around,
you get to my mum and dad's town of like Bridport and West Bay area,
where I was a few videos ago.
So.
that's cool and then that town over there on the mainland is Weymouth.
I mean I say the mainland
technically we are still on the mainland
but you get what I'm saying so that's Weymouth and yeah
believe it or not I've never actually come
to this viewpoint before I've driven past it many times but
never actually stopped and got out
and um had a look so yeah olympic rings views
all right let's go find ourselves a quarry shall we
so I've just had a quick look on google and
Where we were, we were just over here by the Olympic rings.
Obviously, there's the views.
And then just behind that kind of...
Grass Verge up there or something is actually the HMP Portland prison.
HMP the Verge I think it is,
I'll put the name on the screen,
but that's one of the prisons that's on the Isle of Portland.
So and like I say you can see the kind
of communication satellite thing spinning around
up there and you can just about see some kind
of buildings over in the distance but you can't
really get any kind of a sense there's anything there
but yeah that's where one of the prisons is.
Very interesting.
This is mega, isn't it?
Look at the chunks of stone.
That's wicked. They're huge.
Look at that. Let me put you right out a second.
Hang on. Look at how big that is. That's mad. Wow.
Isn't it cool? Oh, there's a fossil on that one.
Look at that. Say what that is.
I can't pronounce it, but I'll put it on the screen here.
And yeah, that's amazing.
Look at all the shells in it.
Hundreds of them. Very cool. Very cool.
Right, I think we're going to go...
Oh, shall we see if we can see a view of the quarry where we're going?
Ha ha!
Oh, there you go.
Architecture aligned to St George's Church,
inspired by St Paul's Cathedral.
Very cool.
There you go.
This is kind of like the quarry that we can walk around.
So I think we'll head down here and we'll head up over that way.
Looks like there's some guys doing some work over there.
I tell you what, it's absolutely roasting today as well.
It's only about 25, 26 degrees today,
but it's, yeah, in half warm.
Wow, look, you can see them on the side of the cliff
down there, like doing some repairs or something.
And then you can walk right down the middle,
all the way through.
Very cool, isn't it?
And then a little chisel beach view through there, look.
That looks like a chair.
It is as well. It's an armchair.
That's so cool.
It's an armchair made out of stone.
Wow. There's not many people
who can say they've got this view from their armchair, is there, eh?
Oh, we're right near the edge. Oh, danger.
Do not approach the gully. Okay, look down there, look.
Don't think we'll go any closer than that.
Might be able to put you up on an extension a bit.
What's this
here, look?
Yeah that's a tunnel or a bridge that goes over
this gully so oh wow that's cool.
Should we go down there?
Yeah let's go down there, let's go and have a look.
Then we can get down this way, there's a staircase.
Oh wow look at that,
that's awesome, croaky.
What a beautiful bridge,
1854.
That's awesome isn't it?
Cave in there look,
people doing carvings
on the rock.
So people do come out here to climb the rocks
as well like where we were just now over at
Portland Bill Lighthouse.
On the ledges that are down there you see lots of people taking
their crash mats down and they go and try
and climb the ledges and climb the rock faces down
there which is pretty cool. Something I've always
been interested in and wanted to give a give a go
but you know I could only get so high
and then probably freak myself out and want to get down.
Wow that's really cool.
All right let's see if we can head back up this way.
Nice. Look at all the rocks that have fallen down the cliff there.
Wow, that's crazy. And look at all those, they're like,
I don't know, it's like a little allotment
almost of little buildings, little cabins I guess.
It doesn't look like an allotment, it doesn't look
to be anything growing down there but it could be locals
who have just got little kind of sheds
they come down to and, I don't know,
put the deck chairs out, enjoy some sun. That view though,
that's pretty incredible isn't it?
It's got to be one of the most stunning views in Dorset.
The sea is so blue as well, I almost want to get in myself.
God, that's warm out there.
There's no better feeling than
when you've been outside sweating all day
and then you get back into your van
and it's just ice cold air conditioning on your face.
All right, let's have a look and see where we're going to park tonight.
All right,
so there isn't really anywhere to park.
Um, there's just nowhere to park overnight here really,
unless I go on an industrial estate again.
So what I'm thinking, just to make my life easier,
is we'll go to the car park, it was just down the
road, uh, on Chesil Beach. It's kind of like this one here.
Where's my camera gone? This one here.
So we're actually along Chisel Beach.
It's probably going to cost insane money to park there just for
like a couple of hours, but I think we'll park there.
That's where I'm going to cook dinner tonight.
Might even go for a little walk along Chesil Beach as well.
Then I can show you guys the actual Chesil Beach.
And then from that car park,
I'll then head to Dorchester later this evening.
And I'll just park up in Dorchester tonight and sleep in Dorchester.
And then I'm there and I can hit the gym tomorrow morning, shower up.
And I think that's a plan.
I think that's a plan.
All right, I'm going to get myself a cold drink
and then we'll hit the road.
Okay so the car park I was going to go in which
is that one I'm just driving past right now on the opposite side
of the road is because I've just had to drive past it,
go down another roundabout, turn around and come back
because that one you can't park any vans in at all.
Doesn't matter whether it's a camper van, a motorhome,
HTV, you're not allowed to park vans in there at all.
So that's mildly inconvenient. So instead I'm driving back up this way.
and i caught sight of a little like lay-by type place opposite
this supermarket down here and
there was a few other vans parked there
and it didn't look like you you needed to pay we're
gonna try and park
there and see if uh
see if we can have
better luck this
will do all right
i think we're gonna be right here so i saw
a sign coming in and it says Chesil Beach heritage site
no camping no barbecues
and fires doesn't say anything about paying though so
I think we'll be alright, make sure the van's locked
and then we'll head up over the beach, innit?
It's gonna be a workout getting over there though, I can feel it.
So this is where we are, so that's the road we came
in on and this is where we're parked and then
we was going to be parked way up there but we're now here.
There's nothing about paid
parking here and there's nothing about
not being able to park there so we should be
alright. Just seems a little weird
that you've got that kind of free bit of parking.
And everywhere else is paid, but I don't know.
Right, this, my friends, is Chesil Beach.
So it kind of starts there, and that's the Isle of Portland.
And then it goes all the way along that way.
And we've got to get up over here first.
And it's all these large pebbles.
So it's going to be a little bit of a workout,
because you kind of sink as you're walking.
It's all good, right?
You can see the windsurfers out there as well, look.
Right in the very distance there's a windsurfer, some people on boats.
It's a cool spot.
Oh bro, what a view.
Not bad, not bad at all.
Wow, look at the Isle
of Portland
from here.
It's incredible.
So we were way up there just now on top of those cliffs.
That's where we were
hiking up there. You can see all the kind of landslide of rocks
and rubble I was kind of
Kind of talking about
and then the lighthouse is way around the other side.
That there is the prison up in there
and then just down there is the van.
Oh I don't know where I'm pointing. Somewhere down here is the van.
What a view. That's mega, isn't it? Look at it.
It goes for as far as the eye can see.
Right down
there.
Pretty awesome.
Oh wow, that's
incredible.
It looks
so steep down
there as well.
That's crazy. We shall venture down.
Feels like if I go down there I'm not coming back up.
I don't know if the camera can quite get how steep it is.
Look, I'm holding the camera kind of like straight right now.
It just literally drops like that.
And we've just come down these massive banks here.
Isn't that incredible?
Phenomenal.
All right, see if we can go down.
Wish me
luck.
Wow, it's so steep.
Look at how it just drops in.
That's
crazy.
It's so clear as well.
But after about like, I can see about,
Six foot in, and then it just kind of drops off,
so I'd actually be a little nervous about going in there.
And the current looks quite strong, so yeah, nah, we'll, yeah,
I don't feel that comfortable going in there on my own today.
Look down the beach here, just goes on for miles and miles and miles.
Look how the waves are breaking as well, they're kind of just like,
they're going like sideways along and breaking.
Just a little further up, I don't know whether you can see that.
I love coming and sitting by the sea. It's so calming.
I don't know what it is, whether it's
like the thought of just being near water or crashing of the waves,
like not having anything
around you, like you can just see for hundreds
of miles of nothingness. It really helps to clear
your mind, you know,
when you're when your head is just busy with a thousand thoughts.
That
was
hard.
I
can't
remember
if I
said
this
in the
video
or not
but
I've never actually been on Chesil Beach ever in my entire life
and I've lived next door to it
forever for the last 37 years.
I've never actually been on Chesil Beach. Well that's a lie,
technically I've been on it
but like 10 miles that way which is near Abbotsbury.
And it's kind of connected
to the land there whereas you know here it's more kind of you've
got land and sea either side.
So yeah I've never actually been on this part of it. It's very cool
though. Very cool. Just incredibly steep to get up that.
That was a workout that was. But what a view.
You can even see the breakwater.
So again it's probably going to be really hard for
me to show you on this camera
but there's a breakwater. Hang on a second.
There's a breakwater which runs right the way out there along
and you've got an entrance there
and then it runs along again. Hang on, where's my finger?
All the way along and then there's
another entrance kind of around here
and the other side of this harbour bit the other side
and then there's another bit that runs all the way along there.
So perhaps I'll put Google Maps up
and show you here what it looks like from the air
and there's a couple of entrances there but
you know it's what it looks like from ground level. So this kind of
Bit of the harbour here or this bit of the inlet.
I don't know what you call it but
but we're almost back at the van.
Have one little last look at Portland over there look.
Beautiful place, beautiful.
I think you can actually walk so the southwest coast path
you can actually walk all the way along there
and go right round to the lighthouse and round the
other side and back. It's kind of a loop walk.
Obviously it avoids the prison but you can...
God, dear.
Bit windy.
Yeah it avoids the prison
but you can walk most
of the island.
Well I wasn't going
to cook in this
like little car park on the side of the road
but to be honest with you I can't be bothered to find
somewhere else to park at the moment
and I think after this I'm going to drive to Dorchester anyway
so I think I'm just going to do my dinner here
and there's only like these few cars here and then the
road and then we've got one car by the side of us here.
We are literally on this main road but
I don't really care to be honest with you,
I'm hungry and I want to do my dinner so
and if I don't cook my dinner and I don't
do it now I know what's going to happen,
I'm going to be driving back to Dorchester
and I'm probably going to stop in a shop.
and then buy junk and we don't want
to do that because we're trying to stay on plan.
So we've got some chicken thighs,
I've got some tenderstem broccoli and I'm going to do a couple
of eggs, some egg whites and probably some cottage cheese as well
because fills me up for ages,
it's high protein,
won't make me hungry later and yeah that's what we're cooking.
So we've got our chicken here
which I've already weighed out, that's 200 grams.
Trying to weigh my food out every day as well
and make sure that I keep to my plan, keep to
my calories. I've got some chicken seasoning we're going
to dump in there, yes, and then we'll do
a little bit of salt and pepper as well,
even though there's probably a ton of salt.
In the chicken seasoning already.
It's crazy I was actually looking at seasonings in the shop
the other day and it's mad
when you look at it how much of it is literally just salt. Someone
I put it in my comments actually last week.
I was actually curious, so I kind of was like
looking around the supermarket and seeing just how much
like salt and stuff was in seasonings.
And yeah, there was this one of them,
which was like a roadhouse rub or something.
And I was like, ooh, that sounds nice.
I looked on the back of it and it was like 40% of it
was like Himalayan salt.
And the seasoning itself was like 17 or not 17,
seven pound I think it was.
And I was like, well, I'm not paying seven pound
just for salt, you know?
I might as well like photograph the ingredients,
which I did.
and uh make my own just getting
our seasonings all mixed around here with a little bit of olive
oil and then we can uh get our chicken
on the go dude i'm gonna have to put my fans up a little bit
as well because it is so hot in the back
of the van all right i think it was probably a
sensible idea to uh stay and do my dinner here as well
because uh it's actually rush hour at
the moment so traffic's just gonna be mental everywhere
so i might as well stay here do
Do me dinner and then commute up to Dorchester later on.
Traffic everywhere.
The camera's probably not going to pick it up
but like there's a massive queue of traffic
right along the peninsula here where all these cars are going to join
because there's a roundabout and like
traffic lights as soon as you get off the
peninsula here so yeah I don't want to be stuck in that.
I think then what we're going to do is
we'll do a couple of eggs
and I'm going to do two tablespoons of egg whites to go with it.
I did it.
Eggs are obviously really good for you and they're high in protein
but the yolks are actually quite fatty.
So at the moment I've been having two whole eggs
and then I do two tablespoons of egg whites which
still gets me a ton of protein
but keeps the fat off a little bit and as I put all my
food into my fitness pal and I'm tracking everything
at the moment I know like where
I'm hitting like my protein my calories my carbs my fats all that stuff
so I can look at it here.
Yeah my whole dinner tonight should
be 590 calories with 80 grams of protein so yeah.
It's pretty good, it's pretty good.
Get our egg whites out.
Chicken's
looking
good.
Ooh!
I'm on a real chicken thigh kick at the moment just
because they're so much tastier than chicken
breasts. I've eaten dry chicken breasts for as long as I can remember.
Chicken thighs I don't know
they're just juicy, succulent, bit of seasoning on them,
not much effort and you've got a banging meal
so yeah I'm all about my chicken thighs at the moment.
They smell good too. All right I'm going
to kick them to one side in a minute
and then we can put our egg in there and we can get that going.
I'm also going to put our broccoli on,
get our broccoli steaming in there.
Just put a little bit of water in the pan as I always do,
sit the broccoli in it, steam it up, job done, nice and simple.
Look at that chicken, look at it.
I just realised I'd never hit record on the whole egg process and yeah,
just finished doing my eggs and realised I never hit record.
Yeah, yeah, that's how tonight's going.
Anyway, we've got our egg.
We've done it like sort of scrambled
and it doesn't look the best, but it's gonna be tasty.
So scrambled egg, got our chicken, got our broccoli.
Now it's time to plate up.
All right, first up, gonna go on
with our tender stem broccoli.
And we're gonna get our chicken on.
Gonna do our egg, it can go there, beauty.
And then I'll leave a space in the middle
for the cottage cheese.
And how I normally do this is just put my plate on here,
reset my scales.
and then I don't know how much cottage cheese I'm dishing up.
Need 150 grams ideally which should be
this container because they're 300 grams each
and I took 150 out last time so oh god spilling it.
I'm going to use my spoon it's what I
normally use okay 89 137 I think we're
on to a winner 150. 153
that'll do I'm happy with that.
Now a lot of people don't like the texture of cottage cheese
I don't know what to tell you.
I think it's an amazing food because with cottage cheese,
I wrote some notes here.
So cottage cheese, one of the best foods to lose weight
because you've got typically like
14 grams of protein per 100 calories,
which is a ridiculous amount of protein.
And also, it's basically a...
Casein protein. Unlike other proteins,
which break down fairly fast, casein protein breaks
down really, really slowly,
and it helps keep a slow release of amino acids trickling through
your bloodstream for hours,
which helps keep you fuller for longer and can reduce snacking
between meals. And I know through having this,
combined with high-protein chicken, eggs,
egg whites, it's a massively high-protein meal.
I mean, there's like 80 grams of protein
protein on this plate and it's now
20 to six, like I'm not gonna feel hungry
for the rest of the night now,
which evening time for me is always a problem.
So what am I doing?
Knife and fork.
Yeah, evening time is always a problem for me.
So yeah, I think anything I can do,
Anything I can do like in the evenings
to kind of like curb my cravings and
prevent me snacking or driving to the shops to go
and get cookies because
that's what I normally do or ice cream.
Anything I can do to stop that I'm all for you know I mean
this is definitely not something
that you would probably normally do like having cottage cheese
in the middle of your dinner but hey I don't care.
i'm all about it i'm all about i'm all about
the solution let's uh give this a go so i do like the
chicken i do the egg i do a bit of cottage cheese
a bit of broccoli get it all on there you know
and it's really tasty as well especially
with the chicken thighs like if you bought a chicken
seriously get some chicken thighs if you bought
a chicken breast all the time get some chicken
thighs season them up it's
so juicy they're really good i'm absolutely sweltering in the van right
now i've got all the fans going i've got
the windows open baking i know you guys might be
You might be thinking as well,
I eat pretty much the same food all the time
and that's kind of true. This is what I was
kind of explaining to someone a couple of days ago.
For me like living in the van,
There's so many decisions I have to make on like a daily basis,
especially when I'm filming. I mean
even when I'm not filming, just like where I'm going,
where I'm parking, where I'm basing myself
for the day, where I'm going to be parking that evening.
Have I got enough electric? Have I got
enough water? Where am I going to be getting water next?
How long is my water lasting? But there's so
many decisions and so many things I'm thinking about
on a daily basis. You can almost get
Yeah, decision fatigue.
It can be really, really hard to introduce new things
and have to think about new things all the time
because you're just like, I just want to sit down.
I just want to have something to eat.
I think a lot of the time that's where
I've fallen off on my diet as well
because I'm constantly thinking about like,
well, what am I going to eat now?
What am I going to eat now?
So when it comes down to it,
like if I eat the same food every single day,
yes, it does get a little bit boring,
but I look at it as like, let me just...
Eat the same thing every day.
Let me just use it as fuel for my body.
I have my plan.
I'm in my calorie deficit.
I'm working out.
I'm doing all the things I need to do
to be able to lose weight over a period of time.
So if I can just remove like the decision-making process
of like, well, what am I going to cook tonight?
Well, how much do I need of what foods
and all the rest of it?
Like just creating one shopping list of the week
and having done with it.
I've actually found it like a huge,
I don't know really, I don't know what to call it, but.
you know like a massive just just something i don't have
to think about and it enables me
enables me a bit of breathing room
and a little bit more time to focus my energy on other things
rather than about you know what i'm cooking all the time
so and that's not to say that i'm not
going to be cooking some good food
in the van we're still going to cook some great food there's
in different dishes and things but just for now
while i'm like you know on this health kick and
trying to drop a few pounds and trying
to get myself back on track it's just a little bit
It's a little bit easier for me, that's all.
Well, that definitely filled me up.
Oh, I needed that.
It's all that walking up and down the beach.
Well, I think I'm going to get this lot cleared up
and then I'm going to head to Dorchester,
go shower up and then call it a night.
So I think that's where I'm going to leave you guys.
As always, I truly appreciate you guys watching.
