Hey there, I'm Amanda Mushrow, and I'm a writer for AutoInsurance.com.
If you live in the South or the Midwest, you may be familiar with American Family Insurance Company.
It's known for offering a wide variety of coverages and discounts,
and being a great option for families with young drivers.
American Family is available in 19 states, so if you live in one of them,
keep watching this video to see if American Family is a fit for you.
First off, let's look at their prices.
For full coverage, American Family's average cost is a little lower than the national average.
However, for minimum coverage, it is slightly higher than average.
And for drivers with a less-than-perfect driving record,
American Family is still a strong choice.
American Family's rates for drivers with DUIs and at-fault accidents
are lower than the national average by 27% and 13%.
Here's a great perk for new customers.
American Family offers accident forgiveness for drivers who haven't been in an accident
for the past five years, regardless of whether you were insured with American Family or another
provider. If you qualify for accident forgiveness, your rates won't increase if you do get into an
accident. Some providers require you to have been a customer for several years before offering
accident forgiveness, so this is a pretty good deal.
If you've got a driver under the age of 25 on your policy,
you know they are among the most expensive drivers to insure.
But there's good news.
American Family offers them several discounts for being a good student,
attending college at least 100 miles away from home, and completing a teen safe driver program.
There's even a discount for young drivers who complete volunteer work.
From all the discounts I've seen insurance companies offer,
that one is unique, and it's a pretty cool discount.
There's plenty of other discounts, even if you aren't a young driver anymore,
like bundling your policies and a multi-car discount.
You can also enroll in Drive My Way, which is American Family's usage-based insurance.
Drivers receive a 10% discount for signing up, and based on how safely they drive,
they could save another 5-20%. Pretty nice savings.
But remember, if you display unsafe driving behaviors, your rates could actually increase.
Who is American Family best for?
Families with teen drivers, drivers who are looking for usage-based discounts,
and drivers with an at-fault accident or DUI on the record.
Who is American Family not a great fit for?
Drivers who want minimum coverage instead of full coverage,
or drivers who live outside of the 19 states American Family is offered.
Bottom line, American Family offers comprehensive coverages,
a slew of discounts, and is well-known for its customer service.
However, it's only available in 19 states, which limits who can be a customer.
Well, that is a wrap on American Family.
