e history of Russia or about Russian culture and
of course about the difficult times in which we live
In the podcast I speak slowly and clearly so you can

Russian
What's the difference between YouTube videos and podcasts
A podcast is an audio format
Typically a podcast episode lasts between 20 and 40
minutes Videos are available exclusively on YouTube
Podcasts can be listened to on various platforms such as
Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Spotify Castbox and more Also
Podcasts can be listened to using any convenient app on your smartphone
You don’t have to stay home and stare at a screen to enjoy podcasts
On a phone screen on a computer screen or on a TV
screen You can stroll you can run you can exercise
Exercise or do household chores
And that's great—it's very convenient and
physical movement helps the brain remember information more effectively
Not long ago the ability to
add podcasts to YouTube
emerged Now YouTube has a dedicated section for podcasts
Listening to podcasts on YouTube can be convenient for those
who enjoy watching videos and listening to podcasts in one place
Now such an opportunity exists
Every week two or three of my podcasts will now be released on YouTube
I'll upload them in order: first the first
podcast then the second then the third and so on
The first early episodes were recorded over five years ago so don't be surprised tha
The audio quality might not be as good as that of the latest podcasts
If you haven't listened to my
podcast yet I recommend starting
with the first episodes—they'
re simpler and easier to follow
If you want not only to listen to podcasts but also to read
transcripts and get explanations
and translations of new words
f you're unfamiliar with the new terminology you can join our membership program or
Purchase the transcription collection
Visit the Russian with Max website for all the detailed information
All further details will be in the description of this video
What about my videos on YouTube
Nothing Of course my videos will continue to be posted every week or nearly every week as before
Well then friends let's listen to the first episode of
the podcast where I talk about myself and this podcast
Hi friends
This is Max and
welcome to my
podcast Yes Finally
Finally I've launched it—I made my
podcast And I'm so so so thrilled
about it
First I'd like to tell you a
bit about this podcast What will you
find in this podcast What can you
hear here What can you learn here
Well first of all
I want this podcast to be completely
and entirely in Russian Yes
That means this
podcast is for
listeners at an intermediate
level yes intermediate
mid-level And in this
podcast I want to do a few things
ypes of podcasts
several differe
variations of podcasts That is in each podcast I will talk abou
on various topics about different things
Today I'd like to talk a little about
In this podcast and about me This is the
first episode the debut of my podcast
So
In this podcast I want to speak slowly and I will speak slowly And if
I say anything
I'll explain
difficult words provide
examples
offer synonyms and repeat as
needed
Explain some new difficult word in different ways
I'll do my best
I truly hope this podcast proves useful to you
Now I'll tell you a
little about myself
My name is Max as you may already know
I graduated
from university in 2010
which was eight years ago Currently
I graduated
from university in 2010 and it's 2018 now
After I graduated from university
my specialty was IT manager
For a while I worked a
bit in the field
of information
technology I was a systems
administrator
Well at first I was
a systems administrator's assistant I assisted the
systems administrator with daily routine tasks I helped
configure computers
configure email
and so on Then I became a systems administrator
And probably
Maybe four years ago I started working in this field I
was studying at university
and working at the same time Bu
It was extremely difficult for me I found it very hard
Working in one place I found it extremely difficult to sit in an
office to sit there for long periods
to work in front of a computer
Eight hours a day was
incredibly
boring so I often
left I would leave
Traveling—that is I'
ve traveled extensively
I went first I traveled around Russia
I've been to countless
cities across Russia
—Saint Petersburg
Moscow and many others
Pskov Kirov Yekaterinburg
Irkutsk Ulan-Ude
So many so
many so many different cities
In Siberia in the Urals and in
southern Russia where Sochi is located
Here Also in Ukraine in Belarus In short I traveled extensively throughout Russia and
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries What exactly are CIS countries
The CIS is
a group of countries that once were
a group of countries that
These countries were once
part of the Soviet Union
Yes there was the USSR and countries like Russia
ow sorry how Ukraine Belarus
Kazakhstan Uzbekistan and countless other
countries they were all part of the Soviet Union
the USSR But then the Soviet Union collapsed and
These countries became independent these
countries became autonomous Yes meaning
they are now separate nations And it's very
easy to reach
many of these countries
Traveling doesn't require a passport because a
passport is simply an
international travel document
ere's
the one you get to travel abroad
Yes meaning outside of Russia
And if
For example if I want to go to Belarus or Kazakhstan or other
countries I don't need a passport—I just need my regular one
Russian passport and that's
enough That's why I traveled
extensively throughout Russia and the CIS countries
en I
I went
I traveled for several months for example
Well for example in summer yes May June
July August I traveled In September I
I was returning back to Russia to Saint Petersburg Yes I'm from Saint Petersburg My city is Saint Petersburg
And I worked I worked through the
winter then continued working through
part of the spring That's it
Around May I'd usually go traveling
Once I undertook an extremely long and prolonged journey
journey through
the countries of
Southeast
Asia Yes
Asia is a region
countries like China
Indonesia Malaysia Thailand—these are all in Asia And
Southeast Asia yes South and East
Southeast refers to
Indonesia Malaysia Thailand Laos Vietnam—these are all Southeast Asian countries and I've spent a lot of time there
For several months I traveled through these countries
And I ended up in China Yes this was my first time visiting China
And I really
liked this country it seemed very
appealing to me
complex Chinese characters yes those Chinese letters Chinese symbols
because the Chinese language is completely different and the Chinese language exploded
Blowed my my mind shattered my brain
Just And it was incredibly fascinating
That's why I decided to
In 2016 I wanted to go to
China to work and live there
work And for the first time I went to China
In 2016 yes I think it
was 2016 or early 2017
And ever since then I've been living
here in China Sometimes I travel to Russia
Recently I worked at the FIFA World Cup
2018 and it was
another great experience—I think I'll share it
in one of my upcoming podcasts
And yes I currently live in China I
really like China and I enjoy living here
I also began working as
a teacher Before coming
to China I
taught a little very little
but in China
After working as a teacher I realized I truly understood that I greatly enjoy this
Teaching people is what I'm meant to do Yes I enjoy it
It's just my thing yes it's what I love doing
About a year ago I
He launched his YouTube channel his channel on YouTube
You can find it yes YouTube
Russian with Max This is my channel
And now I've actually launched it yes created my own podcast
Well what else do I want to tell you today
I want the podcast to be about well twenty
minutes to start with To begin with I want
Keep my podcast neither too long nor too short—about five minutes
This is a short podcast Ten minutes—well still a short podcast
Fifteen well that’s already longer
Twenty twenty-five minutes I think
that's a good length
for a podcast Why
Well I think that if you're listening
to the Russian language yes if
you'receiving information in Russian the
Twenty-five minutes is a
good amount of time for focus
Because our brain yes the thing inside our
head the brain simply
cannot focus for long
And for example listening to a podcast for one hour
—yes one hour sixty minutes—that’s well pretty tough
But twenty twenty-five thirty
minutes—maybe that's the optimal time it's a good time because
a person can immerse themselves yes to immerse means to submerge oneself deeply into something
Well to truly immerse oneself means spending a
long time within the Russian language environment
Five minutes That's not enough Thirty minutes—yes only Russian Can you hear it Russian
Russian Russian—what a great feeling diving into it like jumping into water
For example a submarine dives into the water just as you will dive
into the Russian language I hope you'll keep diving deeper into Russian
Finally I'd like to share a little bit about my day today
What I did today I'm still living in China
Right now I live in the city of Wuhan and it's a wonderful wonderful city
Beautiful city around Urumqi so many mountains in Urumqi there are countless mountains
landmark is a difficult word but it means
an interesting place yes for example
Rome's main attraction is Rome Italy and Italy's crown jewel is the Colosseum
Colosseum the main attraction and most popular landmar
Italy For example in France yes France in Paris the most central and most popular
The main attractions are the Eiffel Tower well and the Champs-Élysées maybe the Louvre as well
Those are all the attractions And in Wuhan where I live there are also many many more
a lot of cool interesting attractions I think I'll tell you more about mine
the city in Wuhan later And today I wandered around the city almost all day yes I woke up in the morning
I had breakfast yes I ate I consumed my breakfast For breakfast I had fruit fruit and well
bread or flatbread This is flatbread this is or bread Well bread is the familiar term while flatbread is the other
something like bread but usually flatter—so bread it has a shape such a shape
A brick is like a square loaf of bread but a flatbread is flat That is we call a flat loaf a flatbread
Both the fruit and the flatbread made up my breakfast Then I wandered around the city riding the ferry The ferry is a
a ship that typically sails along the river Here's a river called the Yangtze It's very
The famous river in China The Yellow River and the Yangtze are the two major rivers in China I live along the Yangtze River
Wuhan is located along the Yangtze River and I took a ferry ride there— it was incredibly beautiful especially the city at night
When the city lights up it's breathtakingly beautiful—truly incredibly wonderfully beautiful So friends
I think that's it for now My first episode is done I think I'll make the podcast once a week
once a week Well maybe just maybe I'll do a podcast twice a week but for now once
Once a week Thanks friends for listening to my podcast Be sure to visit my YouTube channel
and I'd be happy to hear from you meaning I'd appreciate it if you let me know something
Share your thoughts on this podcast That’s all for now folks—see you in the next episode Bye for now
