TWENTY-TWO NEWS REPORTER
SARA BIANA MAY JOINS US LIVE IN
CHICKAPEE OUTSIDE WITH TIPS ON
HOW TO STAY SAFE IN THE EXTREME
COLD.
Yes Claire, right now it's
negative one degrees outside so
I'm dressed with many layers
from head to toe and I advise
everyone else to do the same.
If you don't dress warmly, it
can be life threatening.
According to the National
Weather Service, exposure to
cold can lead to frostbite or
hypothermia.
Now frostbite causes a loss of
feeling and can turn your
fingers, toes, fingers and
even a tip of your nose white
or pale.
If these symptoms are detected,
it's advised to get medical
help immediately.
But if you have to wait for
help, slowly re-warm the
affected areas.
On the other hand, hypothermia
is a condition where your body
temperature drops less than 95
degrees Fahrenheit.
Some warning signs include
uncontrollable shivering,
memory loss, slurred speech and
drowsiness.
If you're showing signs of
hypothermia, focus on heating
your chest, neck or head first.
If the body temperature is
still below negative five
degrees Fahrenheit, seek medical
care immediately.
And infants and elderly are
more at risk at these
conditions.
So I say please, please, please
be safe out there.
Working for you, live in
Chicopee, Sarah Bien-Aime, 22
