Good morning, it is, what is it, Friday? I think it's the 27th of May. It's Memorial Weekend.
Excited to come up and do a little backpacking up Yellowstone Canyon. We were here,
it's been a while, I don't know, seven, eight years ago maybe. Always wanted to come back so
today's the day. That's just going to be me and the two dogs. It's Remington's first time. She's
never been backpacking so we'll see how she does but just getting everything packed up,
getting ready to hit the trailhead. This is her first time with the pack. She's not quite sure
what to think about that. This will be fun. Junction wasn't up here too far. We don't know
how far we're going in. Just going to go until we see something that catches our eye. This is
my first real look at Yellowstone Creek. I was hoping it was going to be fishable. I wasn't
sure what to expect. Looks like it's running a little high but it is definitely fishable.
We found a place to take a break. Been here for a minute and this sure feels like the place we
camped, you know, all those years ago. I don't know, seven, eight years ago maybe.
I can't be positive because there's a few of these areas that look a lot alike. This fork
over here in the river, that fork over there in the river makes me think this is where we were at.
I do remember that. I think though we're going to hang out for a few more minutes
and a little bit more farther up trail. Not sure I'm quite ready to settle down yet.
Got a little beaver pond right here. I do vaguely remember this. Looks like that's a
beaver hut right there. Looks like he's got it dammed up right there.
There's things hitting the water. I don't know if it's bubbles or if it's fish.
But I think I'm going to hang out and see if it's bubbles or fish. If it's fish, I might be back.
Okay, so I think we're going to call this home for tonight. This is the first developed campground
I've come to. It has a fire ring. There's a fire ring over here and there's plenty of trees to
hang hammock and most of them are alive. So we're expecting some wind tomorrow, at least according
to the forecast. So I kind of want to be away from the widow makers. And looking around, all
these trees are alive. So I think I'm feeling pretty safe in here. Well this is our attempt
to keep the whiskey cool and we've got a steak for tonight and some ribs for the dog. But man,
it is great to be out here. I forgot just how awesome this this Yellowstone Canyon is.
Good morning. Early day two. Just kind of mulling around camp, taking it easy this morning.
Well we've been kind of just hanging out at camp for the last few hours. Made some coffee.
I'm kind of getting bored now. So we put the fire out. Doused her good with water. I think we're
just going to go hike. Maybe go up the trail a little bit. Scope out some maybe possible fishing
spots. Maybe do some shed hunting. I don't know. But we're going to go wander around the mountain
a little bit. See what kind of trouble we can get into. Remember this rock from our last trip.
It's a little overcast but it's staying plenty warm. I definitely overdressed. I've shed two
layers so far. The trail crews are going to have fun with that one. It's a pretty good sized tree
and it's laying right down the middle of the trail. The water's a little bit high
but I see some spots I think are still fishable. So we'll give it a shot. I think I'm going to
string everything up. Get the pole ready. I'm going to try out here in front of my camp for a minute
and then I think we'll get on trail and walk down. There's a beaver pond down there. There's
some fish we're rising in. So we're going to try that too. Well as is my luck we've made it to the
beaver ponds and now the wind is starting to pick up. It's starting to rain just a little not very
much. I'm just going to hang out and see what it does. At least try and get a couple casts in.
There's some fish in these ponds. Here comes the wind.
But I just heard a tree fall across the river. It must have been a sizable one. It was loud.
It's feeling like a fire may be in order here soon. Good morning. It's day three. It's raining
and whatever you call this most of the night. Looks like it's going to be a wet walk out.
I think I see some blue sky over there. It's encouraging but we're all packed up. I think
we're about ready to get on the trail and head out of here. It's been a good sight. It's been fun.
Looks like we're getting some sunshine up there ahead. I don't know if it's just
the mountain's sense of humor but it rained and snowed on us all morning and it finally stopped
and now the sun's coming out so all the snow in the trees is pretty much raining and snowing on us
the same this whole trip out. We're almost there now. It's a pretty good climb getting up to this
junction but we're we're pretty much there now. Been a good trip. Been an adventure. It was nice
getting Remy out for her first time. She seems to love it which is always good because there's
many more to go on. We're gonna make this last trek. I'll see you at the truck.
