To start your square you want to make your slipknot, insert your hook and begin by chaining
four. So we have one, two, three and four. You're then going to make this into a circle,
so you want to insert your hook into the first chain that you created and then yarn over
and pull through and we're going to be working in to the very centre of this circle.
So to begin with you want to chain five, so one, two, three, four, five. This is going to act as
a treble and a two for the corner. So when I say treble that's a UK treble, in the US this stitch
is called a double. So as I say we're going to be working into the very centre of this circle
and you now want to do three trebles. So yarn over, insert your hook into the centre,
yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through two
loops on the hook. Now this strand here you want to work that in as you're going around and it just
makes it easier for you at the end. So that's our first treble. You then want to do two more,
so yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through
two and then one more. So that is your three trebles. You then want to chain two for the corner,
so one, two and then we're going to do another set of three trebles in that same centre circle.
So one, two and three. So this is one side and a corner, another side, so we do another corner,
so we chain two and then do another three trebles. Please pause the video at any point
if you need to catch up. So that's one, yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through,
yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two and another. So yarn over, insert,
yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two. You'll notice
that your end is getting smaller and smaller, you can just put that out of the way now.
So we have a corner, a set of three, a corner, a set of three, a corner, a set of three.
We now need to do another corner, one, two, and then do two trebles to connect up to here. So
yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two,
yarn over, pull through two, so that's one. And then one more, yarn over, insert,
yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two.
And this one is, as I said at the beginning, is acting as a treble. So we want to count
from the third chain up so one, two, three and we're going to insert our hook there,
yarn over, pull through and pull through and that is our first round so we have our side,
our corner, side, corner, side, corner and side and to start the next round we're going to chain
one, two and three and that acts as our treble. Now what you're going to do is do two trebles
into this corner space here so it's yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through,
yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two and one more and then we're going
to do the corner again so you just chain two, one, two and do another two trebles into this
corner space so into the same corner space so that's one and two. So now what we're going to
do is we're actually going to work into the tops of these stitches so if I insert my hook here you
can see this is the top of the stitch and we're going to insert one treble into each of the tops
of these stitches so it's yarn over, insert into the top of that stitch, yarn over, pull through,
yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two and again yarn over, insert into
the top of the next stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over,
pull through two, and into the top of the next stitch, so yarn over, insert, yarn
over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, so we've
just done in this side, we've done two trebles in the corner, a treble each into
the stitches from the last row, so three more trebles, and then we're going to do
two more trebles into this corner again, so yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull
through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, and then once
more, so in this side you have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven stitches all
together, we're now ready to do our corner, so one, two, and we're ready to start
along this side, so again we do two trebles into this corner space, so that's
one, that's two, then we do a treble into these next three stitches, so yarn over,
insert into the top of the stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through
two, yarn over, pull through two, and again into the next one, that's two, and again
into the next one, and then the last two into the corner, so yarn over, insert, yarn
over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, and then
one more, and that is our second side, so chain two again for your corner, and then
you're going to do exactly the same down this side, and if you just want to work
your way up to this corner, so pause the video, work your way up to this corner, and
I'll show you what to do with the last end, so I'm now at my very last side, I've
done all my trebles down here, and I've chained two for the corner, you then want
to do another two in that corner, so one, and two, now where we started here, this chain
three acts as one of your trebles, so this chain three is acting as the treble for this
stitch, so now all we need to do is two trebles into the next two stitches, or one treble
into the next two stitches should I say, now we're ready to join up, so again we're working
into the third chain from the bottom here, you want to insert your hook into the third
chain from the bottom, yarn over, pull through, pull through again, pull tight on your yarn,
and then you want to chain three, so one, two, and three, so that is counting as a treble that's
going in this stitch, and we're going to be working along the same principles, so this is
my full square here, you can see this row has three stitches in, and then each row will increase
by four, so the next row has seven, which we've just done, and then the next row will have seven
plus eight, nine, ten, eleven, so we always add two more into the corners of the round,
so back to this one, this is our first treble, we then want to do a treble into each of the
next two stitches that we can see from the previous row, so one and two, there's no more
trebles left from the previous row, so we then go into the double into the corner, so one and two,
we're going to chain two for the corner, one, two, and then we're going to do another two trebles
into this corner, so one and two, you're then going to work into the next one, two, three, four, five,
six, seven stitches, and add another two stitches into the corner, so if you want to pause the video
here, work your way along the seven, and add another two trebles into this corner, and I shall
meet you back there, so we're now at the end of this row, you now want to work your corner, so you
want to chain two, one, two, and then do another two trebles into this corner, so one and two, you're going
to work your way along the next seven stitches, do two in the corner here, and meet me back at the
end, we're now at the end of this side, so we want to chain two again, do two trebles into this same
corner, and repeat exactly the same thing, so seven trebles plus two in the corner, and I shall meet
you back at this very last side, so now we're here at this corner, so chain two as normal, and then two
trebles into this last section, and now because we've already done stitches in these last three, we
only need to do stitches in the next four, and then join, so it's yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through,
yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, that's one, two, three, and four, and we are going to
insert our hook from the third chain from the bottom, yarn over, pull through, pull through, and then chain three,
working into the next one, two, three, four stitches, and then two into the corner, and this is our very last row now,
so this row consisted of 11 stitches in total, and this very last row is going to consist of
15 stitches in total, so if you want to go ahead and work your way into the next four stitches,
two in the corner, and I shall meet you at the corner, so by this point you've probably figured
out the pattern, we're going to chain two again, do two trebles into this corner, trebles into all of
the trebles from the previous row, and two trebles into the last corner, so you can either pause the
video and complete the whole square, or I'm going to continue to just do one row at a time, it's
completely up to you, so I shall see you wherever you pick me up next. Now at the end of this edge,
you're going to chain two, do two into this corner, work your 11 stitches all along here,
and then two into the other corner, and I shall meet you back in this corner, so now you've worked
your way to your other corner, you want to chain two, and do exactly the same along this corner,
so now on my very last edge, I've done my chain two for the corner, done my two trebles in the
corner, and to start finishing off this last row, and then I'm going to work my way along
all of these trebles, so it works out that you have one, two, three, four, five, six trebles left
before we need to connect, so that's the first one, two, three, four, five, six, insert your hook
into the third chain from the bottom, yarn over, pull through, pull through, and then you want to
just tie off, so you're going to yarn over, pull through, grab your scissors and cut off,
pull out the yarn, and pull nice and tight, and that is your square. Now at the beginning,
we worked in this thread here, so all you need to do there is snip off, if you've already worked
it in, and then this one here, you just want to take your darning needle, and then just weave
in the ends, pull through, snip off, and then you have your square. So that is the tutorial on how
to do the solid granny square, I really hope you've enjoyed it, see in the description box
below of how to join your granny squares, thank you very much for watching, I shall see you again
next time, bye!
