There’s a lot of fitness advice out there, but unfortunately not all of it is founded upon real anatomical principles and proven medical science. As a medical student at the world’s top institution - Mayo Clinic - my goal is to help you apply medical anatomy to every-day situations in order to optimize your fitness, avoid injury, and still be able to work out despite any injuries that you might already have.

What's up everyone? My name is Michael Kamalu. I'm a medical student at the Mayo Clinic,
and I'd like to give you a little intro into my channel, Games Without Pains MD.
There's a lot of fitness advice out there with varying degrees of scientific backing,
but almost all of it is focused on the what, what exercises to do, what to eat, etc.
Some of them even give you the what to do and the how to do it.
But there are very few researchers out there that will actually explain to you why.
Why certain workouts work the way they do.
Without the why, it's virtually impossible to optimize efficiency and effectiveness
in your workouts and your health plan.
And many people actually end up hurting themselves, including with pain, and without gains.
I want to use this channel to remedy that by not only giving you a what to do and a how to do it,
but the why, why it actually works.
To do that, I'm going to be using the help of this app.
It's created by 3D4 Medical, lots of medical programs around the nation use it to teach students and residents.
And I will be able to highlight stiff muscle groups, isolate them,
and go through origins and insertions, what it does, how to stretch it, how to get peak contraction.
And with that understanding, you will start to be able to optimize your time at the gym.
You will know exactly what movements will target each muscle fiber and how to get the most out of your abs.
Not only will you be able to see better results and understand the why behind your workouts,
but you will also be able to avoid injuring yourself.
And if you do have an injury, I will help you know how to work that muscle without aggravating the injury.
A lot of people end up not working out, not going to the gym,
because they think they are not able to do the workouts to work that particular muscle.
But with the proper understanding of anatomy, almost always you can still target that muscle, even with injuries.
In addition to these workouts, I will also teach you how to properly stretch each muscle group.
So what is a stretch?
In the end, it's separating a muscle's insertion point from its origination as much as possible.
And with a lot of muscles, that's hard to do if you don't fully understand where that muscle is coming from and what it does.
So we give you workouts, stretches, I'll also fill in nutritional advice,
all with medically sound scientific documents, because anatomy doesn't work.
Whether you're a beginner at the gym, just looking to start working out for the first time,
you've been going at it for years, you're a professional, you're a trainer,
everyone will be able to benefit from really walking through proper application of anatomy.
So if you want to build muscle or tone, if you want to avoid injuries,
if you want to rehab from injuries and still be able to get a workout,
if you want to eat healthier, or if you have a body, this is the channel for you.
Make sure you subscribe and turn on notifications, because you will not want to miss these videos, I promise you.
They really break your time.
