This orchid has lost all of its roots. There's nothing left to absorb water. Many people would
think that it cannot be saved. But instead of throwing it away, I decided to try a different
approach. And this is what happened. When I took the plant out of the pot, I could not find a single
healthy root. All of them were soft, hollow inside, or completely gone. Which country are you
watching from? Let me know in the comments. Without roots, the orchid cannot absorb water. And without
water, the plant will gradually weaken. But the important thing is, the stem is still firm and
solid. That means life is still there. So instead of focusing on what was lost, I began rebuilding
the root system from the beginning. Before proceeding with disinfection, we need to thoroughly
wash the entire orchid. I prepare the disinfecting solution by mixing 1 liter of clean water with
1 teaspoon of baking soda. The mild baking soda solution helps clean the surface of the cut wounds
and supports the inhibition of fungi and bacteria before entering the root stimulation stage.
After preparing the solution, I soak the orchid for about 20 minutes to disinfect it.
I prepare 5 teaspoons of rice and 1 1⁄2 liter of boiling water to make a natural
root stimulating solution. After 20 minutes, I take the orchid out and gently dry it. Drying
helps prevent water from collecting in the leaf axils and around the root collar, reducing the
risk of rot during the recovery stage. Once the rice water has completely cooled, I strain out
the residue, then add another 1⁄2 liter of clean water to reach a total of 1 liter of root
stimulating solution. I add 3 vitamin B1 tablets, 2.5 milligrams each, into the solution. Once the
solution is ready, I soak the old stem for about 20 minutes to stimulate the formation of new roots.
The remaining solution can be used to water orchids that are in bloom or plants that need
support in developing their root systems. However, it should only be applied in moderate
amounts and the growing medium must remain well ventilated to prevent prolonged moisture.
At this step, I reuse an empty coca-cola bottle to design a temporary nursery pot for
the root stimulation process. The transparent plastic bottle allows me to easily observe
root development while maintaining a stable humid environment during the recovery stage.
After soaking for 20 minutes, I gently take the plant out and secure it in the prepared nursery
pot. I add clean water to the pot, adjusting the water level so it just reaches the old base
without submerging the entire stem. The proper water level helps maintain stable moisture,
stimulates the formation of new roots, and at the same time prevents the risk of water logging and
this is the result after three weeks of recovery. New roots have grown out strong and healthy,
with fresh green root tips, a sign that the plant has recovered and is entering a stable growth
phase. Not only have the roots developed vigorously, but the plant has also started
to produce a new leaf, a clear sign of a successful recovery process. I repot the
plant into a new pot with a well-ventilated growing medium so it can adapt and grow steadily
in an open environment. Replacing the pot and using a new well-ventilated growing medium helps
the roots breathe better, reduces moisture buildup, and creates favorable conditions for the
plant to grow healthy in a natural environment. And that is the entire process of restoring the
orchid from a nearly damaged root system to the formation of strong new roots. Orchids do not need
too much intervention. They need proper understanding and just the right amount of
care. If you find this video helpful, please like and subscribe to the Happiness Garden channel
