What do you got going here?
You ready to try this thing out?
I just want to watch for a second.
I'm going to flip around.
So what I did was, I mean, just, you can do it any way you want, but we were talking.
Oh no, I got to come over one more, sorry.
But because you have such long, you know, tenon pockets.
I got you.
You can't really get it.
So you do like, I do like two passes and then I flip and go back.
So usually it's kind of like if you have a bunch of them laid out on a table, we can
just, I can go one direction.
I got you.
When you do the same thing over and over, it gets more efficient.
It does.
And then you make an adjustment and come back down is what you're saying.
And this is a, this is a pretty, it's an amazing machine.
I've never used the other Mephal or what was it, the other one?
I heard Makita's the best though, for this.
Yeah, it's amazing.
I mean, I love it.
I mean, it's.
But this isn't domestic, right?
This is Japanese, I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, and it's industrial and, you know, it's the real.
It's like a double chainsaw, isn't it?
It's just, yeah.
And it's like three.
And then you see what the, like literally everyone's got a two through, you know, so
you've got all three.
Oh, there's quite a few.
Oh, that's a lot.
Yeah, it's not like a double.
It's like.
Oh, it's on there.
I think they.
One, two, three.
It's like four or five wide.
Yep.
It cuts the whole fence like a super highway.
And that clamps it.
What's that?
That clamps it down.
Do you go all the way through on this?
No, this one, we're actually pretty set because, you know, we're going, what's happening is
we're going.
This is going to be shouldered an inch.
Okay.
And then this is, this pocket is six and a quarter.
So then the pocket is six and a quarter.
So the shoulder carries the weight then?
Yeah.
I got you.
So then this will, so it'll, so then everything will drop down into it.
But it's six and a quarter and a one inch.
So we really got a five and a quarter, five inch cast, you know, tenon that we're putting
on.
So.
Dan was rude with this chainsaw.
He was what?
Rude with this chainsaw.
What'd he do?
We're trying to film here.
Gotta do what we gotta do.
I know.
That's very cool.
That's your depth set right there, right?
Okay.
And so then again, it doesn't, you have to, and we show, I showed George when he was doing
it.
You have to, you set this to the deck level, right?
When you actually set this.
I got you.
So, and I made mistakes a couple of times when I first started using it.
I'm like, why am I?
And I just punched through something.
I'm like, oh.
You know, it's because I wasn't, I thought, I didn't realize you got to set that to the
deck.
Right.
Yeah, we'll have to get you on this later.
It's a little easier on pine.
I bet.
Have you gotten yourself with it?
Like your skin.
Actually today was the closest I've come.
No.
Never.
Thankfully, I usually, I let it spin down and kind of stay up.
You don't come back from an injury like that.
No, you don't.
That's permanent.
So then because we're two inches, we can't make that change, so we've got to kind of
go back and forth a little bit.
This is really cool, man.
It's fun to watch, isn't it?
Yeah, I could watch this all day.
You could do an ASMR video of it.
Yeah.
Hours of chain mortising.
We're going to come back and tweak to do a little chain.
Sure.
Now we're set, man.
We'll just go right down and get this thing up.
So there's lots of different nuances we can do, but like you said, it's a lot of work.
You ask about plunging through, for plunging through, the nice thing is you can actually
just cut the outside and the middle will fall, so you don't actually have to plunge the whole
thing.
Now, of course, I have to put...
That's math almost, so I have to think about it sometimes.
So now I'm going to spin around and just, I'm going to do this.
I'm going to come back in so I can zero out this edge on both of them.
I got you.
I'm just working backwards.
I'm going to just spin it around.
I'll come over here.
Actually, I'm going to start back over here.
Is that why you round them out, is because they're round at the bottom?
Yeah, and you could chisel.
I mean, some people...
How do you guys round the corners?
What's the secret?
It's so simple.
There's like a bunch of different ways you can actually do it.
So down in the bottom there, it's going to be rounded like the end of the saw, and that's
why you guys put the dog ears on that thing.
Okay.
I mean, some people will go in and chisel it out, and you can do that, but I mean, it's
just as easy, and you'll see a little bit later how we get that out.
I mean, it's just real simple.
Cool.
And then you can sand it and shape it if you need it.
So now, again, I'm going to check to make sure.
I want to be nice and clean.
I want to be nice and snug.
I'd rather be...
So that's what that square's for.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, it's...
I didn't know this until probably a year or so ago, but...
This is the size of a...
Yeah, and this is your one and a half.
So almost every...
More holes?
Two more right here.
Oh, my God.
Okay.
Stop f***ing around.
Show them the next one.
We have 12 more to be sanded.
You didn't even know anything today, right here.
Holy s***.
That's funny.
All right.
There it goes.
YouTube's over.
So we might have...
Like, I noticed, like, sometimes you get a little bit of...
You know, like, if it's offset, there's a tiny little bump, ridge in there.
I'll come back later if we need to.
Just so that I can...
Clean it out.
And clean that out.
Yeah.
And you can chisel it or you can just go back in with this guy.
I got you.
What's that?
Yeah.
You'll see it.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You want to hit that again?
We have a bunch of stuff.
So I'll show you.
I don't know if you can see it, but you'll see there's a little ridge where I didn't...
And my offset is a little bit off.
So you can see, like, right here.
So there's ridges.
Yeah.
And I don't know if they're really, like, within an eighth of an inch, but if they become
problematic...
I got you.
So it's just, like, a little...
Yeah.
And both of them are probably the same way with the way I do it.
Now we're going to see how...
We're nice and snug.
That's a perfect fit, man.
Yeah, that's nice.
It's nice.
A little snug, but perfectly snug.
So we can always...
Like, you don't want it exactly to, right?
No, you...
It's a little more or you wouldn't be able to get this thing in and out.
No, it's better to be a little snug, too, because then, again, like, you know, we talked
about, you can...
We don't even have to come back with this.
We can just take a chisel and go in there old school style.
Clean it up if you need to.
Yeah, clean it up if you need to.
So...
All right, I'm going to flip around in there.
Have you guys worn one of these out yet?
The blades or...
No, the machine.
No.
I break everything else, though.
Has Dan worn one of these out?
Nope.
No, this thing is...
I mean, this thing's substantial.
The only thing you do is you...
And then this gets dull.
You replace the blade.
They're a very expensive laser.
I mean, he...
300 bucks?
Huh?
300 bucks or...
I think he's...
The cheapest we've got, I think it's, like, 300...
Give me a sharpie.
I got you.
It's cheaper than a blade.
Yeah, and it runs a long...
I mean, it runs a long time.
I can tell.
And there's...
You know, there's so much meat on them.
I think you could sharpen them for quite a while.
Especially depending on the wood you're...
I mean, we do a lot of oak, and so you figure that's...
Well, whoever's sharpening this for Dan, you guys need to let me know, and then he needs
to get some credit for...
That's true.
A guy like me, like, everything you guys buy, I'm buying.
Like, I'm serious.
I bought your...
I'm serious.
I bought your jigs.
I even have your prison shank.
I love the prison shank.
Yeah, I mean, it's...
Because I wouldn't know.
I'm following everything you do.
Yeah.
Well, and, you know, the good news is, the way we do stuff, which I've kind of always
been that way, is I buy a lot of stuff and then see what holds up.
Jason, you're good on camera, dude.
I think you need to, like...
I saw you when you were making the pegs, and you were the star of your own episode.
I get so nervous, man.
I've been in Mexico.
New Mexico?
Yeah.
There's only two blade sharpeners in the United States.
They're $500 a blade.
Are they really?
Yeah.
And that's like 40 bucks a sharpen, Jason said.
Yeah, by the time you get it back, it'll be five.
Yeah.
I got you.
It's like 40 bucks, right?
Yeah, plus shipping.
Oh, plus shipping.
I'll do it.
I want to watch how you guys work together first.
Nice.
Now, again, I think there's little bumps.
I'm not going to deal with them right now since we're just...
Sure.
So we were talking about how fitting becomes, you know, kind of tough sometimes, but that's
the kind of thing.
Look at that.
You put the tab in there, or the tenon in there, and then you'll be like, okay, we've
got to shave a little bit.
Well, this thing's awesome.
Shoes that right out of there.
Oh, yeah.
Very cool.
And especially on pine.
