Okay, guys, this is my neighbor, my next door neighbor, even though we live a quarter mile
away from one another, we're connected and he has a beautiful piece of property here.
And as I told you before, Mike is the guy I came to and checked out his saw before I bought my saw.
So he is the originator in our community about, I guess, running his mouth about how much he likes
your saw. That's all I could say. So, I mean, start with it, Mike, tell us why you bought a
Woodland Mills saw and I guess your experience. Well, I had been looking for a saw. I'd wanted
one ever since I moved here. You know, you got a lot of trees and stuff and was interested in
just hobby sawing for different projects. And I looked around at different brands.
Me as well. I mean, around here we have a lot of home guys with sawmills and things like that.
The pine flooring I've got in my house came from a sawmill on Sand Mountain outside of Trenton,
Georgia. And they had one of those $40,000 black and yellow ones and red with all the automatic
stuff. And I knew that's not what I wanted. And I looked at other ones that are popular,
but they were expensive for what I wanted to do. You know, I just wanted to be able to cut
lumber out of trees. So I finally found the Woodland Mills, probably just searching online
and looked at the features and the pricing. And that's what sold it for me. Simplicity of use,
reliability. And you see this thing's about, shoot, seven, eight, maybe longer, old,
and you keep it covered up and cleaned up occasionally. And it still looks pretty good.
And make the adjustments periodically on the bearings and whatnot. But I've enjoyed it.
I've had several people, several persons other than Dan to come over and want to borrow it
for a project that they're working on. And a friend of mine knew that I had it. And he asked
me if they could use it. And I said, sure, I'll show them how to do it. I won't cut lumber for
people. I'll show them how to use the machine and then let them do it. You know, the old,
you can teach a man to fish and he can fish, catch a fish, you can feed him for a day thing.
And so anyway, Dan came over and used it. And man, what I've seen online and what I've seen
up there that y'all are doing is just absolutely amazing. Absolutely amazing, in my opinion.
I've not seen anybody around here build like that in the post and beam and all the mortises and
tendons and stuff like that. It's just amazing. And using your sawmill to do it. Yeah. Yeah. And
I've watched and I've got a lot of tips, you know, like the rolling the log deal, which I don't have
a big beam up here to put a hoist on, but I can bring the tractor over here with a chain or a
strap because this is going to be hard to move by hand. And I've got to roll it to get the saw over
it. We might have to rig them up at the super wind system. I didn't know he was in need,
to be honest with you. I think that's why he kept it hidden from me a little bit, because I went and
tried everybody else's saw right before I was going to buy one. I found out he had one. And
when I came over here, honestly, I bought it the absolute next day. So I've been using these things
my whole life. And honestly, the price is one of the reasons the simplicity, like you say,
what I do with it, I need the simplicity. The hydraulics don't work. So all I can say is the
first use of it. I loved it. And you guys know I bought one. And this is actually the originator
of our of our community out here, because actually several guys around us had bought
saws after that. So this is a big saw community. You look around, you can't go anywhere and
everybody's got a saw. And for some reason, the color screen. So you guys have done a great day.
I'm really happy that we we've, you know, met up with Mike. And I'm really happy that I met with
Mike a couple of years ago when I got my saw. Yeah, I didn't really know he had it or I probably
would have been over here a little bit more use than that. I don't even know, to be honest with
you. I probably I had done that. I don't want to say names, the Norwood, the Wood-Mizer, everybody
around here has one. And I just, you know, I haven't found at first anybody that had the
woodland mills. And I think I mentioned something and one of the other neighbors or other neighbors
who got us together. So I'm very glad about that. And we've had fun. I think he's had fun with it.
Oh, yeah. I'm just getting, you know, through some illnesses and stuff. So actually, when I
started it up a while ago, I thought I can do this. You know, even though my lung capacity and
what it was, it would get better. And especially if the weather will cool off and the humidity.
Maybe mid to late August and September, I can get back on it because I've got a lot of stuff
that's been laying here that needs to be cut. And I've got several projects.
I've got a place on top of a ridge that I call the pinnacle that I want to build a couple of
structures up there so that my family when they come and in fact, my son is retiring from the
Navy next year and plans to move his wife and two kids here and live on the piece of property over
next to Dan's place and build a house. So the pinnacle would be like a family gathering spot
for campfires. But I want to build something that grandpa can sleep in comfortably with a solar
panel and TV and access to run my CPAP machine, stuff like that. They've got power up there. You
saw exactly saws make these dreams possible. Yeah, really. I mean, everybody has their own dream. And
I'm glad you just shared that with us. Because we'll come out here and help you saw some of
these logs and we'll work on getting you rigged up here and make it easy for you. But awesome.
Now you've had your saw longer than anybody and you built a bunch of products and stuff with it.
Tell me, how do you feel your experience that you had with the Woodland Mills?
Oh, they were excellent to work with. When I called them, they were very friendly,
very helpful and informative about their products. And of course, their literature,
you know, online gives a lot of detail about the product.
And the videos that they made for you, because that's actually I've been doing this forever.
I watched every one of their videos to help on the things that you do specifically with that saw.
Now let's talk about your brother. I mean, as I'm walking around the property and he's
showing me everything that he did and he forgets to tell us who bought a saw.
Well, as I was telling you, he bought some property for his daughter and her family and
about 25 acres over on the other side of town in the Wolf Creek area. And
they were thinking about using mill lumber to build a house. So he was going to buy a trailer
so he could haul logs over here and mill them and then haul the lumber back over.
And then we had the idea where you can buy one of these mills for the same price as just a trailer
to haul, you know, and save all the time and effort and aggravation and tires and gas and
everything. And what the heck? Everybody needs a mill, especially here. And I don't know what
the price on these are now, but at the time it was like between three and four thousand,
which is very, very reasonable. You know, I don't know exactly today this model, which has
changed over the years, what it is, but I don't think it's outside of that range. I mean,
their pricing absolutely is top notch to customer service because if you have to call over there,
I mean, immediately your stuff is taken care of. Well, it has been for me and I hear that from a
lot of people. Well, I called back early on, had a couple of questions and I've ordered more blades
and ordered another stop and, you know, a dog. And so you ran into no problem with it. Very
helpful. And the stuff came in really quick. Quick. It wasn't a real long lead time once you
place the order till you got your materials. So did any did you have to do any bearings yet on
this thing? A clutch on this thing? No clutch, just the bearings. These old idler bearings.
You mean these little bearings? I thought maybe like the band wheel bearings. Oh, no,
no. You see what I mean? I mean, these are wear out parts. These little guys you can get at
the auto parts store. I don't think they care because they know you need to roll it. It's hard
to get them shipped from everybody. You can get them at the Napa store. It's a bearings, a bearing.
I used to work in the supply chain for TVA and a bearings, a bearing. You just need the right
number and size. And if you guys check my account, you know, I buy the bearings for me.
All right. I don't know what I'm saying. He just gave me the tip on the saw.
Those wear out, but they do wear out. But that's what I'm talking about. You've had no major.
That's not a major issue. That's his maintenance. I mean, you've got to know me. That's awesome.
That's awesome. He's had the saw a long time. A while ago, I hadn't started it in at least a
year and a half. And I came down here and turned the choke on, turned the gas on, tightened the
blade and gave it two pulls and it cranked right up. And if you've actually put a lot of novice
people through here that don't know how to run a saw, actually that's harder on your saw. So
all these practice guys. I know. So look, you need something green right here, guys.
Happy anniversary. I loved actually coming here. He, we really had a great time. So I
guarantee you're going to see him around probably on my channel too. See ya. All right.
