Your Last Chance to Stop an Income Tax in Washington State

Hi, everyone. My name is Chris Corey. I'm a state representative from the Yakima Valley and the deputy Republican leader here in Olympia for the Washington State House Republicans. I wanted to talk to you for a few minutes today about probably one of the most concerning bills that has come before us in the last decade or so here in Olympia. I'm talking about Senate Bill sixty three forty six, which is an income tax. Now, you probably are heard about this, whether through our social media or other channels. It's been a big topic of conversation here in Olympia. They're calling it a millionaire's tax or a high earners tax. And they're doing that for marketing reasons, because they want you to vote for it. They want you to believe that you will never be impacted. It's just the others. It's just the millionaires. But we know that they're planning on lowering it because they've already told us they've repeatedly rejected calls to put in caps, to put in state constitutional requirements, barring it from going under a million. They've even said we want to give the flexibility for future legislatures to make changes. That should scare all of us, whether you're a millionaire or not. Washington state has thrived because of our lack of an income tax. As a matter of fact, all the numbers show states without income tax have better growth, better numbers, better results and arguably perform better both in good times and bad. So that's job number one, right? We need to stop this income tax and we need to understand what it is and what it is not. Again, it is not a millionaire's tax. It's an income tax and it's an income tax that they believe will be on all of us within just a few short years. So right now you have a unique opportunity. You can actually head to a link below to sign in con as the bill is being heard in the House next week. We're trying to make sure that every representative in this body knows where the people stand. The Senate had their hearing and over 60,000 people signed in con and that was a record. We want to smash that record because we've heard from more and more people about how harmful this would be for them. Mind you, they're talking about raising taxes, claiming that they're going to help others, but we're not seeing any of that tax relief. Your gas tax is going up. Your food prices are going up. They want a new tax on bottles and cans. They want to keep taxing because they can't stop spending your money. They can't. They won't. They haven't shown any restraint to do so. Just a few years ago, we had a 15 billion dollar surplus and now now we're taxing to the tens of billions of dollars every year. It's out of control. And the only way for you to stop them is to stop this income tax bill. So we need you to sign in con. We need you to come in and put your notes in about why this would be bad for you, your family, your community and help us out. House Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to stop this bill because we know it's an income tax on everyone. And this may be your last chance to weigh in on it. Why? Because the Democrats are so afraid of you saying no, that they've put in an emergency clause that prevents you, the people, from having your constitutional say on this bill. Why an emergency clause? Not because we need the money right now. The bill won't even take effect really until 2029 because they know if they ask you what you'll think, you'll you'll roundly reject this income tax without a doubt. So do us a favor.
