All right we are here at the Rock Lake trailhead. Oh it is the first of October
and we are in prime fall conditions. Going up for a couple nights, just happy to be
getting out one more time this year. Gonna stop at the mine up here and uh
I don't know then move on the lake. Let's go.
We were back in the Cabinet Mountains for what would end up being our last trip of the year
and the weather was perfect. A highlight of this trip for us was stopping by the Heidelberg mine.
Jason comes from a family of miners and he was a miner himself at one time but the special part
about this mine was that his uncle actually worked there when the mine was active. We enjoyed our
stop at the mine maybe too much. It was getting late in the day now and it was time to push up
to the lake. We were running out of light as we made our final climb into the lake.
We're getting close. Made it to Rock Lake. Well we've made it here to Rock Lake. We got some
intel on the way in about a campsite uh kind of down at the end of the lake on this side.
We're going to check it out. We're getting in here right at dark. Coming into the trip we had lofty
goals of hiking up St. Paul Pass and maybe even up to Libby Lakes. Getting into the campsite the night
before we had a pretty gnarly bushwhack and we weren't feeling like another one to try to get up
to the pass. During the day there was a constant wind blowing up the lake and it kept us near the
fire all day. Turns out that was good enough for us. Well good morning. It is morning day three.
Yeah missing a day in there. Uh we didn't do much. We hung out at camp yesterday and
kind of celebrated all day and just got to hang out with each other in this beautiful
place. Ah but today it's going home day so uh yeah we're a little slow out of the gate here
this morning but we'll be getting the coffee in us and packing up and making the walk out. Should
be a great walk. Well we are back on the main trail. That side trail is a little rough but now
we're just going to cruise down. We're definitely going to stop at the mine again and then it's time
to cruise and finish this off and find a burger. It's pretty cool. Just pulling out from the mine
right now. Got the double track back to the truck. On our way out we ran into the crew from
Anything Outdoors with Steve, another YouTube channel who does videos in our area. We hike a
lot of the same trails. Hopefully we'll run into them again down the road. Even though we are on
the home stretch and thinking about burgers I always find myself slowing down not wanting the
trip to end. Fall is by far my favorite season and I can't wait to get back.
