Two men on snow patrol for the New Jersey Department of Transportation rescued two men from an overturned utility truck on Wednesday morning after it crashed off Route 295 and into a tributary.
John Reilly and Dalton Applegate work with Johnson Specialized Transportation Inc under contract with NJDOT. They jumped out of their trucks when they saw the crash.

Now to the heroic actions of a pair of highway workers in Gloucester County
being credited tonight for saving two lives.
It happened early this morning along Route 295 in West Deptford.
A utility truck flipping over here landing upside down in a stream.
But two passing NJDOT employees who saw it all unfold immediately jumped out of their trucks
and led an effort to free the two people partially submerged.
Action News reporter Cheyenne Corwin live at that scene tonight.
Cheyenne, you spoke to those two workers today.
I did, Brian.
And if it wasn't for those heroes springing into action,
we could have been telling you an entirely different story tonight.
You can actually see the area where it happens right behind me.
Just imagine those two men climbing down this hill.
But fortunately, they did because the two men who were inside of the overturned truck
are recovering with non-life-threatening injuries tonight.
I don't see myself a hero.
I just do what I'm programmed to do.
You know, it's just human nature.
Every day when John Riley gets into his big yellow truck,
he has no idea what he may come across on the road.
Around 7.30 a.m. this morning,
this utility truck crashed along Route 295 in West Deptford, overturning off the highway.
I looked over at the last second and saw the truck down the embankment upside down on its roof.
And I immediately pulled over, slammed on my brakes, got out.
And quickly noticed the truck was leaking fuel into the roadway and water down below.
When Riley sprung into action,
he was on snow patrol with New Jersey's Department of Transportation.
When he wasn't alone, his colleague Dolan was right behind him in another truck.
Only thing I can think of is we got to get these guys out of here.
Inside the truck were two men Riley says he first got the passenger out.
I saw the driver was trapped.
And he had a seatbelt that was holding him in.
And he was under the water.
The water line was up to his nose like this.
I was able to find a knife and give it to John.
And he was able to cut him free and actually pull him up out of the truck.
Was that for police then took the rescue from there.
We're here obviously as police officers to do everything we can to keep the community safe.
But it doesn't work unless everybody's working together.
And we're really fortunate today that that is something that really was brought to light.
If there's a chance for you to help people, if you have the opportunity,
even if times are tough for you, help them.
You know, I believe good things come around.
And Fire and Hazmat crews also responded to actually clean up that fuel.
And also New Jersey State Police, they are investigating this crash.
But Brian, you can just see that this was truly a collaborative effort tonight.
We're live in West Effort Township, Cheyenne Corrine, Channel 6 Action News.
Back to you, Brian.
Thank goodness they were there.
Thank goodness they did what they did.
Cheyenne, thank you.
