Broadbent Meadow High Uintas Wilderness, Utah

Well we just uh we just pulled up to the trailhead it's been a few years since we've been here last time we came here this place was packed and this time there is not a soul here so it's like we'll have the mountain to ourselves. Looking at the snow line there is quite a bit of snow up in the high country. I don't know until we hit snow trying to find a no-name lake a buddy of mine at work told me about said the fishing was pretty good up there so we're gonna try to make it to Broadbent Meadows today we'll set up camp and go back and try to find this lake it's off trails there's no trails to it I think it's only a three cloth trail it's not too far we'll just play it by ear you know not really making any plans. We've obviously beat the trail cruise a few hundred yards in but let's go around it this is my first good look at the river about what I expected it's probably fishable it's flowing pretty good and it's a little off color but it's not just chocolate milk so we'll see see what it looks like as we get up higher we're not too far in I doubt we're even a mile in yeah but it is beautiful out here trail's been good it's it's a little soggy in a few spots not too bad for the end of May you know trying to get into Broadbent Meadows I might not even run into much snow so a guy can always hope we should just try to take off after him it's a little a little wet stay close to the trail so we don't get lost but I think we're in Broadbent about seven 7.3 kilometers which I'm hoping is roughly six and a half miles that's about how far Broadbent Meadows is from the trailhead I guess it really doesn't matter at this point it looks like I've got weather coming in so I'll hurry and set up my well I think we got the casa set got a nice new under quilt it's a 10 degree hammock gear quilt the war bonnet hammock this will be where we're sleeping tonight it's not the best for so I don't usually do this I'm gonna build a fire ring right here I usually try to find something that's already made I've got plenty of water all around me I'm actually like in a little island in the middle of a marsh so I'm not too too worried about fire danger our pit's done so I think we're in good shape right now I need to go get some firewood that'll be next door to the business so nice out here we've got the I think we got our firewood for the night hopefully that's hopefully that's more than enough that's the UN as though firewood is not hard to come by more dead trees than there is live trees but I think we're set for the night it's really starting to look like this weather might pass us obviously it's the first night tradition dictates that we bring stakes for the first night so you know I hauled them up here they've been in the fridge all night we're gonna bury one for me and one for doshan a few advantages of coming out this early I guess I don't think we're gonna do it today we'll probably do it tomorrow we're actually gonna go up this way and try to find this no name lake I wish I could take looks like we got a little moose paddle right here in the trail awesome find all right this one I found we wandered a little bit off the trail it almost looks like it could be a match it might be a little bigger but still unbelievable unbelievable oh good morning morning day two beautiful morning sun's just starting to peek over the trees just getting the fire started playing with the dog but he gives you much choice been spitting sticks at me since before I got out of my hammock a buddy of mine told me there's a lake up here there's no trails to it so we're gonna go try to find it we hiked this river yesterday and we couldn't find any way to get across to it looks like we might be able to get across right here so we're gonna attempt that hopefully all goes well make sure that water is super cold still looking for this lake I don't know how long we've been out here feels like a while and then into a lot of snow feet are pretty wet same pretty warm though I think we're close just kind of following the stream I've got to imagine that stream's coming out of the lake nice to find it and then hopefully it's worth all this because yeah we're bushwhacking now for about a mile and a half and trying to avoid the snow but some areas that's just not possible hopefully it's just right at the top of this little draw and looks like it could be we didn't find the lake we got weather moving in so we thought we'd better start trying to make our way back to camp I'll get back to camp before it starts raining I can't make up his mind the sun will shine and it'll get all dark it's threatening enough that I think we're gonna get back so we just got back to camp it looks like not a moment red castle in the distance blowing this way and the temperature is dropping batting down the hatches getting some water and getting some things put away just out of the weather in case it hits it's looking like it's gonna hit starting to get a little bit of rain sun's shining but it's raining considering how dark some of these clouds were that were all around us we've been pretty lucky it's not raining real hard it's just sprinkling it looks like it could and it was something more than just a sprinkler it looks like uh it looks like we moved on from rain it rained for a little bit then it stopped now let's start back so it looks like the the weather's kind of let up it is still pretty overcast but it's not raining or anything Tosha and I are just sitting here by the fire we both are we passed out good morning what's up we're heading out today with a little coffee and a little breakfast all right I think we're about packed up on the trail a little doing but I think we got everything on I think I may actually be going out heavier than I came in it's okay though it was cool to find these I've never found a moose paddle before in my life let alone two and I believe they're matching set which is crazy because I found them like half a mile apart still pretty awesome a little overcast nice and cool it'd be perfect for hiking got the fire all put out I think I'm just going to spiffy up a little bit get out okay we're heading out we're all packed up I know I know I know between the antlers and people that had this spot before us left a bit of a mess so we're packing out some of their garbage too but at least it won't be up here anymore
