Hey guys, I have a really light and cozy family home for you today. I am in Launceston, Tasmania
and this home was recently awarded the best kitchen design, not just in Tasmania, but in
all of Australia. True story, I know. So come on, let's go check it out. This home has such a crazy
feel to it. I'm going to get comfy. There is a lot of light in here. It's quite an overcast day
but it does not stop this incredible amount of light streaming through those windows.
So now we're just in the best kitchen in Australia, just quietly guys,
and I can see why. It's got a really lovely feel to it. It's very practical as well. Huge space
here, this island bench, a lot of room to have your friends up to stay, having a wine whilst you
prepare the food. We've got plenty of storage. Oh, this is an integrated dishwasher. Huge sink.
I like the style of that white sink. Cool contrast. Your fridge is there. The mirrored splashback,
that's pretty sexy. That works really well. So you've got this space here, but then you've also
got an additional area here. You've got two ovens, plus you've got this whole other preparation area
where you can mix drinks, you could make your tea, make your coffee. Really good use of space
and more space. Hide away all your appliances. You've got your cereal for the morning. You've
also got your booze. This is the kid's area. That's the parent's area. I love that.
Plus there's more. It keeps on going. Again, just really functional, heaps of space for your
microwave, for your grill, your toasters. Plenty of storage. A really good size laundry.
It's got a lot of that black as well in here. Plus, look at this, very clever. You've got a
drying station with these heated air vents coming through here. How cool is that? I'm going to make
a tea. I was trying to find the kettle. Turns out I don't need one. How cool is that? I love that.
That's really cool. I'm going to get that later. Wait for it to cool down. I'm going to check out
the rest of the pads. This sunken lounge, I really like a sunken lounge. This has got a really lovely
feel to it. Because it's all open plan, it kind of segregates it still. It makes it its own zone.
The L-shaped couch, it's such an awesome central hub. You can hang out, have your family time,
have your mates around. There's so much amazing heat coming from that fireplace. Do you know the
cool thing about a sunken lounge is that you then also have all of this other kind of integrated
seating. This is so warm. So nice in here. I really like the way that TV is hidden in there.
It's recessed into the wall. I think, Bailey, because your eyes are drawn to the fireplace,
you don't even notice that the TV's there. Beautiful greenery. Really good size office
space. And hello. Oh, hey, buddy. Poor old buddy. He looks a bit stressed. Might need to be quiet.
I don't think he likes my voice much. That's beautiful. Looking out over onto the gardens.
Oh, hello, bathroom. This is epic. Look at this bathtub. I'm going to get in this.
Oh, my gosh. I love the shape of this bathtub. It's really quite unique. I like that it's got
a little headrest here. Looking out over onto that beautiful white exposed brick and that garden.
You've got nice little recessed hints, so you've got storage space. And you've got this seat,
which, sure, you can sit on it, but also shave your legs. You've got a walk-in rope through here,
which leads you into the master bedroom. Oh, you've got this beautiful carpet underfoot,
your own little private outdoor area. If this is the master ring, I'm guessing
the kid's area is around the other side. Let's go check it out.
I love the feeling of this bathroom. Very different to the one before. We've got a
separate toilet in here with a really awesome skylight punching a lot of light through.
A really good size bathroom. I love it. And a shower as well. Oh, my God.
These kids are really lucky. I'd kill for this bathroom growing up.
We've got one of the kids' bedrooms through here. Again, really good size. Heaps of storage here.
There's a lot of storage everywhere in this home. And this is pretty cool. So,
the kids have got their own living area they can hang out in. Another bedroom through here.
Oh, she's got a great walk-in rope and a really good size room again.
Number three for the kids' bedrooms. This is a mirror image to the one we saw before.
Really great walk-in rope. And again, really nice view. Should we go get that tea?
Before I get the tea, we better check out outside. The rain started to come down. Oh,
my gosh. But it actually doesn't matter because you've got this really cool covered section here.
Epic barbecue, bar fridge, barbecue cooktop. Okay. I'm going to go get that tea and sit on
the couch. Trying to figure out how to describe this home to you. And I've got to say, I'm a bit
confused because it's a modern home. I mean, it's only about two years old. It's just been built
and it's incredibly luxurious in everything it has to offer, but it doesn't feel grandiose.
It feels actually quite humble and modest. And I think that's why I really like it as well. I mean,
I got to meet the owner. I can definitely see her personality is reflected in this home because it
really does have this incredible welcoming and generous sort of nature to it as soon as you walk
through the doors. I've got to say, the light in this home is spectacular. I've not seen a home
quite like this in terms of the way it captures the light. It is quite an average day. Well,
to be honest, we've had all sorts of weather today. It was quite nice this morning. It started
to get a bit overcast and then it got rainy, but it didn't actually matter because still with this
overcast day, it pulls so much light through. And it's because the entire home is literally
centered around that courtyard. It faces north, the entire building wraps around that courtyard
area. And it just sort of creates this incredible feeling of space and light. And you literally feel
like you are in your own little world. You don't feel like you're part of a residential street at
all. So this home is famous for its kitchen. It has been awarded best kitchen design. To be honest
with you, I can see why. It's got multiple areas and zones within the kitchen. So it's a very
functional space. The orientation as well is incredibly good. So if you're in the kitchen,
you're actually looking out over your dining and your living areas as well. You can watch the TV,
plus everything is integrated. You've got the integrated fridge, you've got the dishwasher,
the beautiful mirrored splashbacks are really quite something. And they're very, very sexy.
I do like them. They work really nice with that black detail. What I think they've done
really well in the kitchen is the lighting. I mean, they've got so many beautiful integrated
hidden lighting details with the LED, as well as the incredible track lighting above that island
bench. That lighting works really well with the dark features, all that dark cabinetry. And again,
with the mirrored surfaces, with those splashbacks, it creates such a moody vibe, but at the same time,
it's very warm and the lighting gives it that warmth, as well as those beautiful touches of
those warm timber details. I like that you've got that hidden cabinet as well, that you can
either choose to have that open. You can have that open most of the time, but if you've got
people coming around, and you want to kind of tidy up the space, you can shut those doors,
hide away your appliances, or just keep your cereals or your booze in there, as there is at
the moment. And it's just a really good sense of space. Plus, you've got that butler's pantry out
the back as well. It is not short on space whatsoever. There is storage overload. It is
incredible. Oh my God, that tap, that boiling tap. I can't even begin to imagine how many cups of tea
I would drink in this home. I mean, seriously. Speaking of which.
There's really smart details integrated throughout this home. I really like in the
laundry with those heat events. So you've got essentially your own drying rack there,
as well as those heat events. They've actually integrated them into this sunken lounge as well,
and they're at foot level. How good is that? Sometimes I think sunken lounges work really
well, and sometimes they don't. But in this home, they've completely nailed the sunken lounge,
and I think it all comes down to placement. I love the way the layout of the sunken lounge
is mimicked with that incredible timber wall paneling, which goes from the wall up into the
roof. And it just creates this incredible zone. It warms up the entire space. Not only does your
eye gravitate towards it, but it also does signify that it's its own area. And because of the warmth
of that timber, it just adds to the overall coziness that already exists in this space,
because you've got the fire, because you've got the couches, and it just makes you want to sit
here. And I think that's just what you want in a living room. This is a seriously generous block.
It's all centered around that incredible central courtyard space. And there's so much lawn area.
You've got gardens with those beautiful birch trees, plus you've got a pool area, and you've
got this outdoor entertaining area with that kitchen outside. There are so many different
spaces in which you can hang out. It's got that awesome angled roof, which has got a lovely light
allowing all those amazing birch trees to grow up through it. But it's also very practical as well,
because we walked outside, it started to rain, but you're still protected from that. But the angle
of that roof allows a lot of that northern sun just to punch straight into this home. And that's
what allows so much light to enter this home. The master suite. Oh my God, I love that bathroom
for a start. Oh, those black tiles are like this incredible sort of dark moody charcoal. They had
really nice irregular tactile tone to them. And then all of the rooms boasted walk-in robes,
not just in the master suite, but all of the children's rooms as well. If that was my kid's
situation growing up, I would be super stoked with my life. I mean, they are epic. And that bathroom,
the bathroom's really interesting over the other side, because it's the exact opposite of the
parent's wing. It's very light, it's very bright. They've got a shower in there, which is a really
good size shower. So sure, this home has an award-winning kitchen, but for me, the hero of
this home is definitely the sunken lounge. I'm sitting here having my cup of tea, the fire's
going. To be honest, I don't ever want to leave. Hey guys, thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed
