We headed to Uluwatu Surf Villas to take a tour of their new Tower Villa. It’s called the ‘Tower’ for good reason. It’s quite the fortress. From the outside it looks like a boarded up timber box but once inside all is revealed. I must admit I was quite surprised with the overall feeling this villa had. It was very dark and moody, which is often not what I would associate with Bali. Think more ‘red wine on the couch’ rather than ‘pina coladas on the deck’. Don’t get me wrong, it still embraces tropical Bali life but it does so with some seriously handsome swag.
The villa uses a lot of local reclaimed timber and that is definitely the hero of the space. The main attraction though is the timber panelling wrapping around the exterior and making way for those incredible sliding doors, that let the outside in.

Hey everyone! You might be asking yourself, that doesn't look like any Melbourne suburb I know,
and you're quite right. I'm in Bali, I'm on my honeymoon, but as it turns out my new husband
doesn't know how to relax. So I'm going to do a home tour for you,
but I'm not going to let it interrupt my cocktail hour. Let's go. Here we go. Watch your step.
Oh, and welcome to heaven. How beautiful is this open plan living and dining?
Oh my gosh. That breeze. Looking out onto the jungle. This is really cool. I love it.
I absolutely love this place. We're going to go up. All right. More doors. You go first.
How incredible is this bedroom? This is just heaven. And then, I mean,
yeah, we're not in Melbourne anymore. This is just insane. I love it. You've got a gorgeous
ensuite. More doors. Oh my gosh. Okay. You ready? You go. Oh my gosh. Hollow bathroom.
Look at that view. And then, oh my gosh. There are living curtains in the shower.
And you might be thinking, that doesn't make any sense, but
how's the shower curtain? Covers it. It's awesome. That is the best thing I've ever seen.
Oh my God. I can't even compute. This is beautiful. And the sunlight is streaming in.
Come on. Let's go downstairs.
So this is something completely different. It is so cool down here. And I actually mean
cool. It's really, really cool. The stone floor is amazing to walk over.
Have a look at this incredible bathroom. Oh, sun can level for the shower. This is just,
it's very dark in here. It's very moody. And you've just got so much privacy. It's just,
again, I'm whispering. It just feels so beautiful and tranquil. There is texture
everywhere you go. And it is just physically so cool down here. Oh, beautiful linen curtains.
They're throughout. They are beautiful. Awesome pop of color with that chair.
These doors are just amazing. We're outside again. Let's go back up.
So the first thing that I noticed about this villa was that it was incredibly,
incredibly luxurious. And to be honest with you, I was super surprised when I walked in here,
because it was really quite dark and quite moody, which is something that you don't really
associate with Bali, like at all. But it's beautiful the way that they've done that,
because they've created this incredible cocoon and safe haven that blocks out the rest of the
busy world. Because if anyone's been to Bali, it's hot. I mean, I'm spitting over here. It's
chaotic. It's busy. It's noisy. So this actually, you walk in and you've got your own little safe
haven. It's beautiful. So the absolute heroes of this home, for me at least, are those incredible
timber-paneled sliding doors and also the linen curtains that are pretty much throughout. That
is what creates this incredible cocoon, but also they're very practical because they can actually
be pulled across. You can block out all of that harsh sun and they block out a hell of a lot of
heat, but they look deliciously glorious as well. The decor is minimal and elegant. It's got a very
mid-century, modern vibe going on. And this citrus green here is just divine. It's really
complementing what's going on outside with those epic jungle vibes. Very simple, very minimal,
very elegant. I love this L-shaped couch. It's really cool. I love its subtle curve. It looks
out over to the pool. You can look back to your mates in the kitchen. You can look out over the
jungle. I mean, it just has a really cozy feel to it. There is a lot of reclaimed timber in this
home. There is a lot of timber everywhere. Actually, it's very dark. It's very moody,
but it has been used in different ways. That's why those linen curtains are really important
as well, because they're able to soften that heavy kind of masculine tone that's created by
just so much timber. The other really cool thing that I absolutely love is downstairs in that
irregular stone flooring. That floor is just such a beautiful, organic floor, and it's such a delight
to walk over. The bathrooms are absolutely out of this world. I mean, the view from that upstairs
bathroom is completely next level. I can't even begin to explain. You would never actually get
off the toilet. It is just ridiculous. And I love, love, love, love, love, love the way that
they've put linen curtains in the shower. I mean, I've literally never seen that happen anywhere,
and it's kind of genius. I love that the shower curtain overlaps the linen. It protects it. It's
amazing. I love it. And the downstairs bathroom is completely different tone as well. You've still
got that incredible outlook onto the jungle, but you just feel like you're in this kind of
sunken cave. It's very cold. It's a complete oasis, and it's a totally different feeling
to the one above, but each of them have this incredible luxurious feel. So you're basically
living like a king. So what's interesting, I think, about this villa is that there's two bedrooms.
There's the upper level and the lower level, and both of them have two very completely separate
vibes going on. The upstairs bedroom is very much about views. It's very open. It's very
Bali. You can see through to the ocean. You can see through to the jungle. It's all just about
being part of the environment. So when you go downstairs and you go into that sort of lower
level and you descend those incredible staircases, it's welcoming you into this very cool oasis.
It was the most incredible feeling walking down there. You just feel like you're in a different
space entirely. You're really away from the world now. You're sunken. You're flanked by bamboo and
palms and stone, and you're just in your own little world, and it made you feel really safe.
So out of the two, I reckon my favorite bedroom is the one downstairs, purely because you're in
a completely different environment. It's very cool. It's very isolated, and it's exactly what
you want when you want to escape from the intense, hot, crazy Bali life. I really love this home.
I love that this villa encapsulates true Bali life. It embraces nature, but it's incredibly
modern. It's very unique, and it's incredibly secluded. Thanks for watching this very special
