Marcus Rashford missed a golden opportunity to score his first home goal for Barcelona on Sunday
night. The hosts raced into a comfortable first half lead as Firmin Lopez scored twice alongside
Refinha and Lamine Yamal's strikes. However, Rashford missed the chance to make it five
mil on the brink of halftime. After Yamal won the ball back inside the visitors' half,
he slipped his teammate in on goal. Rashford rounded on-rushing goalkeeper Jean Butez
to leave himself an empty net only to slide his left-footed attempt wide of the post.
His shocking miss left Refinha, Lopez and Eric Garcia with their heads in their hands.
Meanwhile, Rashford let out a smile despite the miss as he jogged back into position.
It would be one of his final contributions to the match before being withdrawn during the interval.
Ferran Torres replaced the lonely ahead of the second half with Barca grabbing their fifth
minutes later through Yamal. The Spanish giants faced Como at the Johan Cruyff Stadium at their
training ground in their latest pre-season clash. It is the final match before Hansi Flick's side
begin the new campaign, with the fixture serving as their annual Joan Gamper trophy encounter.
Fortunately for Rashford, he had already opened his Barcelona account during their Asian tour.
Having made three appearances during the trip, he scored in a 5-0 win over Daegu in their final
match before returning to Spain. It follows his arrival on a season-long loan from Manchester
United last month. Barca also have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
When could Rashford make his La Liga debut? However, Rashford has yet to be registered for
the new La Liga season due to the club going over their salary cap. Both he and fellow summer signing
Joan Garcia are currently facing a wait for their league debuts. Barca begin their campaign away to
Mallorca on Saturday as they start the season with three fixtures on the road. Their first home
match against Valencia is scheduled for September 14, to coincide with a return to the Nou Camp.
The club are hoping to make their long-awaited return to the iconic stadium
after two years of redevelopments to increase the capacity to 105,000.
