Western Massachusetts experienced a drastic change in weather from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Some ice and fog this morning led to a tricky morning commute, but this
afternoon temperature is warming up nicely to near or at 50 degrees. 22
News Storm Team meteorologist Alexa Bianco explains the change in weather.
Yes, Mother Nature can't seem to make up her mind, but we're in for a treat
this weekend
after a cold front moved through earlier this week, and we saw a wintry
mix Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, it was icy and foggy as warmer air
moved over the cold snow packs and what we call in meteorology advection
fog. But by the afternoon, temperature started to feel more spring like all
that fresh snow, fresh ice last night. Temperatures were well below freezing,
but then this morning we saw some spike in temperatures. Um, air temperature
climbed above freezing. Dew points were also climbing as well. So you got all
that warm, warmer, moist air riding over the fresh snow, and it's creating a
lot of fog here in the valley. Our average temperature in Springfield is
around the low forties this time of year, but we have the potential to see
the low sixties heading into next week. According to the Climate Prediction
Center, we will be seeing warmer days ahead as temperatures are projected to
be above normal from the southeast to the northeast towards the weekend and
into next week. Especially we see temperatures climb back into the fifties
and even potentially some sixties early next week.
