A 15-year-old girl has been arrested following a reported taser
and pepper spray attack on another student
on a Springfield International Charter School bus Tuesday morning.
Now, one parent is calling for stricter bus safety rules.
22 News reporter Sarah Vienna joins us live in studio after speaking
with the parent and getting statements from police and the school.
Yeah, Claire and Ciara, classes continued despite this incident.
Now, videos have been blurred to protect the privacy
and identity of those involved.
What started as a normal Tuesday morning ended with police responding
to a disturbance on a Springfield International Charter school bus.
According to Springfield police,
officers were called to the 100 block of Joanne Street around 7 a.m.
My daughter had got a phone call from one
of her friends that was actually on that bus.
And he was telling her one of the little girls came on the bus
with a taser and pepper spray to attack another little girl.
A 15-year-old girl was then arrested.
The school could not release information
regarding what led up to the altercation.
due to privacy reasons.
Parents are now calling for stricter bus rules
to make sure their children get to and from school safely.
I feel like that the buses should have bus monitors.
I never agree with the fact that they have all ages on the same buses.
The school sent a message to parents saying that school continued
and none of the other buses were affected.
But parents say that message did not fully reflect
the seriousness of what happened.
In a statement to 22 News,
Springfield International Charter School Director Justin Baker said
the school will take appropriate next steps
while the investigation continues.
Springfield Police also says they cannot release any additional details
because the arrest involves a juvenile.
