Hi everyone! Welcome back to my channel The Host and Homemaker. My name is Lauren Dawn and today
I am so excited because it is officially March. It is a beautiful day where I live
and we are going to be decorating for spring. I have been waiting for March 1st
so that I can officially feel like I can decorate for spring. This is subtle, simple,
tasteful entrance into spring. We're gonna start on the front porch and work our way in.
All right, so we are going to start on the front porch by giving it just a little spring sweep.
I am so excited about putting my spring things back on my front porch. There is something so
beautiful and life-giving about putting greenery on your front porch, whether that's fake flowers
or real flowers or just a simple wreath. I often will say that the front door and the front porch
is like the handshake to the home. It's like the first impression and it's the thing that I feel
kind of welcomes you in. So starting on my front porch felt like the right move just because that's
the first thing that people would experience when coming into my home. All right, so I am going to
start with my wreath. I absolutely love this wreath. I've had this wreath for three years now,
three to four years I think, and I have yet to get tired of it. This was a wreath that I got from
Target and obviously you can't get it anymore, but I love the little whimsical flowers on it and
then this sweet little bow at the bottom. I got this right after I got married and I didn't have
like any decor. I got married around Christmas time, so I had Christmas decor but nothing else,
so I remember running to the store and just grabbing something for our front door.
So this chair right here is one that I recently thrifted. If you've seen one of my previous videos
you know that this was sitting in my entryway, but I now have a new little butter churned crock
antique that I replaced it with. So I am going to put it out here because I do feel like it,
I think it belongs out here. I just didn't want the wood to get damaged. I'm going to be putting
this watering can on the chair. I got this from an antique store for only ten dollars. I could
not believe because I don't know if you've ever been to an antique store and looked at the watering
cans, but they can range from anywhere to $40 to $75 in my experience. So when I found this for
$10 with the wooden handles, I snatched it up very quickly. These flowers right here I bought last
year and I used them inside my home, but they look a little summery inside my home, so I'm going to
actually try them out here because they really look like the flowers I think in the wreath.
These stems are from Hobby Lobby. I don't know if you saw that terrible tag. I am so bad about
taking tags off, especially florals, because I get really excited about them. I go and stick
them in whatever I bought them for and then I forget that I have a tag on them. So I should
take these off, but again, I'm excited about putting them in, so I guess I'm just going to
leave it. I may go back and cut it off. But anyways, these are from Hobby Lobby. These are fantastic
stems. They fluff very well. So there's one stem, but there's several stems on it, and you don't
need a lot to fill a space and make it look really full. So I'm actually going to use these in my
little planter box. This planter box I got from a thrift store for three or four dollars, and we
mounted it in the brick wall, and it has been probably my favorite thing about my porch.
My door is kind of this blue-gray color, which I love, and this was just already this nice little
light gray color, so I just feel like it was meant to be on our little front porch. So this pillow I
actually recently thrifted. I really loved the color, and this pillow is actually a Sunbrella
brand pillow, so it's meant for the outdoors. And again, I just feel like it looks really
good with our door and then the little gray planter. All right, so here we are again. If
you watched my last video, you know that I just recently thrifted this pottery barn console table,
and I've continued to play with it. So right here, this is a book that I recently thrifted
after that video, and I thought it was absolutely beautiful with the gold lettering on the side and
it just being about dried flowers. I'm also taking Baby's Breath. I felt like the other
stems were just a little too harsh. I wanted something a little bit lighter and a little bit
more cottage-esque, and I felt like Baby's Breath was the perfect move. This is a jar that I
thrifted. I also decided to put some little felt feet on the bottom of the things that are sitting
on this console table because I did not want to scratch the wood. I really want to be very careful
about that, so I actually put that on all the things except for Burt Mallard. I have not put
the felt feet on Burt Mallard yet, but he will get some very soon. So these stems I also recently
thrifted. I was really excited about these. Now these had a lot of things that I ended up pulling
out. There were some really dark blue flowers and some very large white flowers, but I just wanted
the whimsical looking things, so I left the eucalyptus and some of those other little...
I'm not even sure what they're kind of called. They kind of look like lilacs, but they're
definitely not. I think if you can go into thrift stores and see something beyond what it's giving
you, then that can really help you be able to find really fun things. You just maybe need to be a
little bit creative with it, like having to pull stems out that you don't like, but I'm already
liking my console table even better than my last video just because it feels lighter. It feels
more springy. There were so many fantastic ideas that were given to me in my last video, so again,
always thank you for sharing your opinion and sharing your thoughts on this. They really do
help, and I really loved a lot of those ideas, so thank you. All right, so because Easter is a little
bit early this year, I am going to put out just a tiny little taste of Easter. This wicker basket I
got from Hobby Lobby. It was kind of like on clearance a little bit, and then these eggs I
recently got at the thrift store. I almost bought some of these at Hobby Lobby, but I decided not to,
and then I went to the thrift store and found these in a bundle bag, and I think that these
have little holes at the bottom, so I feel like they might have been like on a stem or something,
but the way I found them, they were just kind of in a bag, and then it came with like three little
wooden eggs, and I did love the tone of these because they had some blue gray eggs in them,
and I am just going to put that on my little tray with my centerpiece, but I just thought these were
absolutely so cute, and I could not believe I found kind of what I wanted and was willing to
buy in a real store at the thrift store. So this has been out probably for a week or two. I just
wanted to kind of introduce spring a little bit ago, but this is a pillow that I actually made.
It was a no-sew pillow, and then I am just going to stick some greenery in this basket. This basket
was one from Target. I was gifted these at Christmas, and I just absolutely love them.
They look like they've been aged in an antique store for a while. This jar also came from the
thrift store. This was, I think, $2.99, and these are some lilacs that were also thrifted. This is a
really good time to look for some florals in thrift stores. What I've noticed with thrift
stores, it seems that they hold things until the season or the holiday, and then they put all the
thrifted things that have been donated out on the floor around that time, and I've noticed a lot more
faux stems, so if you are wanting maybe a little bit of a better deal for faux stems than going
straight to Hobby Lobby or somewhere like that, I would probably check out the thrift store and see
if they've held any in the bag and we're just waiting for spring to put them out.
So on either side of my mirror, I have had two wicker baskets, and I have filled them with
flowers for the past couple seasons, but I think I'm going to change them back to the galvanized
little flower pots and fill them with flowers. I felt like it was a little bit more springy to me.
I got these flower stems from Hobby Lobby just recently. I really wanted something that wasn't
going to be too distracting while up on the wall, but just added a touch of greenery. I wasn't too
sure about these while standing in Hobby Lobby. I was afraid they were going to look too wintry
because they kind of give a frosted eucalyptus look, but I got them in and I thought they looked
really good. Now up here, I usually have a wreath, but I am going to hold off on the wreath because
the one that I planned looked a little too summery, so I may go grab the one that's on my daughter's
door and stick it on the mirror. Now these are the same ones that I have on my console. I
absolutely love these. These are also from Hobby Lobby. I feel like they look extremely real,
and so I'm going to be putting these in the little wicker basket that sits on my blanket ladder,
and then these little stems I thrifted, and I don't have any more of the ones from Hobby Lobby,
and I felt like it looked a little sparse, and so until I get some more, I'm just going to add
these to the back just to give a little fullness to the basket. Now while I was putting these in
the basket, I had an idea about putting a little ribbon, so I'm going to stick one of these. These
are like pre-made ties. I think they're like Christmas present ties, but I got them off of
Amazon, and they're little blue velvet ones, and I am seeing if I like this tied in the basket.
I'm not totally sure about it, but I thought it looked really pretty. I just don't want it to look
too wintry. I definitely love the look of a ribbon on this basket. I'm just not sure if I want it to
be velvet. I just can't tell if it looks a little too Christmassy. I stepped away, and it felt like
it may look a little too wintry. I love the way that a ribbon looks on it. Here's it without it,
so I would love to know what you think. Do you think it should have the ribbon, or does it look
too Christmassy? This is another bundle of stems that I recently thrifted. This is the time to go
to the thrift store if you're looking for thrifted florals. I don't know what it was, but I have found
a lot recently, and I'm just sticking these in this little white pitcher. I really like the way
they kind of flopped around. I love decorating with pitchers, and I didn't know what stems I
wanted to put in these, and then I found those at the thrift store, and I was really excited.
Now, this is a basket that I thrifted last year, and I love this basket so much. I think it was
about $5.99, and I always keep some florals in this basket, so I'm sticking these in. These are
from Hobby Lobby. You can still buy these, I'm pretty sure. I think I need to go back and
potentially get a couple more of those stems. The basket is very large, and I usually have a blanket
in there, but I don't think I'm going to put it in there. I think I'm going to put it on my blanket
ladder. Alright, so for my coffee bar, I definitely want to give it a little bit of life, so I'm going
to be using this gray pitcher that my cousin gave me and using this stem from Hobby Lobby. This is
just one stem, and I love this stem because I really only need one of these stems for the pitchers or
the vases that I use. It just fills it out so well after you kind of fluff it out. Alright, so
seriously, I think my bathroom may be one of my favorite places that I have decorated right now.
These stems are from Hobby Lobby, and these are just absolutely beautiful. I think they're supposed
to be some kind of peonies, but I have put them in this laundry basket that I thrifted with some
towels, and I just absolutely love the way that this has turned out. Now, this has been a fun
project. This basket right here I thrifted, and it was very orange. I'll put a picture of it right
here, and I used oven cleaner to strip the orange tone and the orange finish on it, and it turned
out so incredibly well. I honestly can't believe how well it turned out. It kind of just opened the
door to being able to buy even more baskets that I find in the thrift store. To be honest, the
original finish was not horrible, but I wanted it for this bathroom, and I wanted it to match
this laundry basket that I already had in there and the other wicker things, so that's why I decided
to strip this particular basket. Just adding some simple touches kind of throughout my home. This
little creamer pitcher I thrifted, and then these little florals I thrifted too. I have to be really
careful with these. These are like kind of coming apart, but these were in some bridal bouquets,
and I really love these, and I'm just sticking them in this little creamer, and I feel like it
just adds... it kind of looks like the beginning of a tree blossoming. You know, those really sweet
white flowers that don't last very long, but they just reminded me of the beginning of a tree
blossoming, so I thought that these would be really pretty right here. Now, I've shown this
in a recent video, but I just thought I would show it again in case you are new to my channel, but
one of my favorite things is putting flowers in a basket over my fridge. Now, these are also some
stems that I thrifted, and I'm using this little pitcher that I thrifted, and I'm telling you this
pitcher is calling for real florals, but I have not been to the store to get some real flowers, but
I will be doing that very soon because just a little pitcher in the windowsill of your kitchen,
it just needs real flowers, and so this will do for right now, but I am looking forward to going
to the store and getting some real flowers. As always, I want to just thank you for watching
this video. Thank you for commenting. Thank you for the encouragement that you continuously give
me in my videos. They really do mean so much, so thank you so much. I hope that you enjoyed this
video. I hope that you are getting excited for spring. I'm really excited to start this new
season with some more content that just feels fresh and uplifting, so if you're new here,
I would love for you to subscribe, and I will see you in my next video. Bye-bye,
but I'm really excited. We're going to start on the front. A red cardinal just
zoomed behind the camera. It has zoomed in front of the camera. I'm just gonna shift it.
He's still up there. Hold on. Oh, I don't know. Yeah, there he is. There he is. He said,
though there's no leaves on this tree, may it be spring. Oh, see?
