Hello everyone. Welcome to Learn Italian.
This is a free online basic Italian speaking course.
Before starting, I would like to say a huge thank you to my listeners
for coming back each week to listen and send your kind words to me.
In the last lesson, you learned some useful phrases for checking your understanding.
There was also a quiz.
Which expression do you use when someone speaks quickly?
A. Puoi parlare più lentamente, per favore?
B. Puoi ripetere, per favore?
The correct answer is A. Puoi parlare più lentamente, per favore?
Well done! Bravi!
Today you are going to learn tag questions.
Here are some of them.
Pay attention to their pronunciation.
The intonation rises because of the question mark.
Listen to me and then repeat.
Right?
Vero? Vero?
Isn't that right?
Non è vero? Non è vero?
No? No? No?
Right?
Giusto? Giusto?
Am I wrong?
In Italian, tag questions are placed at the end of affirmative sentences
and they change statements into questions.
We use tag questions to request for attention and agreement.
In some cases, they are used to ask confirmation of an idea expressed by the speaker.
Now look at these examples.
Hai fatto i compiti, vero?
You did your homework, didn't you?
Lui è simpatico, non è vero?
He's nice, isn't he?
Maria è spagnola, no?
Maria is Spanish, isn't she?
Ce l'hai la patente, giusto?
You have the driving license, haven't you?
Tua sorella è molto timida, ho sbaglio?
Your sister is very shy, am I wrong?
Let's practice.
You will hear a short dialogue between two old school friends.
First in English, then in Italian.
Sorry, you live in Battisti Road, don't you?
No, not anymore.
But you went to the middle school, Ascoli, didn't you?
Yes.
Your brother name is Alessio, isn't it?
Yes, I'm sorry, we have met?
I was Alessio's classmate.
You are Roberta, I am happy to see you again.
Now you will hear it in Italian.
Listen carefully.
Scusa, tu abiti in via Battisti, vero?
No, non più.
Ma hai frequentato la scuola media Ascoli, no?
Sì.
Tuo fratello si chiama Alessio, giusto?
Sì.
Scusami, ma ci conosciamo?
Io ero la compagna di classe di Alessio.
Tu sei Roberta, che piacere rivederti.
Now there is a quiz.
Add question tag to this statement.
Quello lì è tuo nipote Marco.
