This is where it has to happen, and this is where it has to happen.
I'm not letting you get rid of me. How about that? This used to be my specialty. You know,
I was good in the living room. They'd send me in there, and I'd do it alone. And now I just...
I don't know. But tonight, our little project, our company, had a very big night. A very,
very big night. But it wasn't complete. It wasn't nearly close to being in the same vicinity as
complete, because I couldn't share it with you. I couldn't hear your voice or laugh about it with
you. I miss my wife. We live in a cynical world. A cynical world. And we work in a business of
tough competitors. You had... Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at hello. You had hello.
Ooh, ******* guy in the red hat. Who the **** are you? Let's find more pictures of you.
Bingo. What William Matherson, restaurateur. What a piece of ---- this guy is.
I mean, honestly, I just find it disgusting. The way that you guys embrace the single life,
the women, the carousing. Carousing? Yeah. Were you Cary Grant? You've been in a relationship all
of two minutes. And he's already a righteous asshole. Guys, look, I'm just in love and ----,
and I've had a lot of time to sit and realize how disgusting both of you are. Mostly you, Jason.
What about me? You're the worst. You're pretty disgusting. Thank you. You're gross. I'm a killer.
What the... Did you... Did you post a funny video on Ellie's wall? No. Yes, you did, because I'm
looking at it right now, Jason. I mean, is it funny cute, or is it just fun? It is funny cute,
Jason. You pussy. You funny cute videoed her? Yes, I guess. I don't know. I don't know what
I'm doing, man. Hey, man, I think he loves her. I think that's love. It sounds like love to me.
I don't know, man. What do you mean you don't know? I don't know. Maybe I do.
Well, then you have to tell her. You have to. Don't be funny cute, which is, you know,
right up your alley. You love that ----. Asshole. I don't... I don't even know where to... What's she
doing? Let's stop by her place. Where's she at right now? Third Tuesday of the month. She's at
one of her readings. Whoa. That was some stalker ----. That's creepy. It's creepy that you know
that. I mean, does anybody go? No. Nobody ever goes. Nobody ever shows up? Nobody. Well, then
you are going to be the guy who shows up. We pounded along, my father's hand on top of the
wheel. Nobody ever shows up. I watched the bats crackle and plunge against the sky. They never
knew here. They only knew the echo of there. Thank you. Thank you, Ray Flarson. I have to do something.
Does anybody have any questions? Yeah, I have something that I would... I'd like to read
from my novel. It's not really the kind of place where you can share from your own work. Thank you
very much. Honored to be here. This is good. Tough act to follow. Then don't. I'm a big fan of your work.
I'm so sorry. No, please. And then the other guy asked to buy her a drink right as Jason walked up.
So she asked that guy, what happens if I enjoy the drink? What happens then? And he pretended not
to know the answer. So she told him. She asked if they'd play beer pong in that shitty bar with his
friends until they headed back to his place at Murray Howe. She asked if they'd have to listen
to his roommate, **** Hillary or Emily or whatever her name was, until they fell asleep. And she asked
him if a year later they'd still be there in that bar. The only difference being that now he feels
pressure to get married and have kids because he thinks that that's what she wants. And then in the
drive up to the shitty Hamptons. To meet his shitty parents. Wondering the entire ride if they think
that she was pretty enough. Smart. Wondering the entire ride if they think she's smart enough.
Because no one was. And no one ever will be. And Jason knew that now. And he would give anything
to go back to that moment. The moment where they first met before anything went wrong. Before
he didn't show up for her when she needed him most. Before he understood that being there for
somebody when it's most difficult is really all the relationships are. Jason knew that now.
And he was so sorry for what he had done. But Jason also realized that in that moment
he wasn't afraid because he thought she wasn't the one. He was absolutely terrified because he
knew she was. And if she could give him just one more chance. Just one more chance. She knew where
to find him. It's 2 18 in the morning in the middle of February. I've been sitting on a park
bench for almost four hours. I'm ******* freezing. Why am I sitting here? Why am I still sitting on
this bench? Okay here's what it is. Whoa. Ouch. Oh ----. I'm sorry. You know you gotta like give a girl
some warning or something when you do that. I know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I should have. I just um.
I just. It's just that I've been thinking. I don't know much about relationships. Neither do I.
I definitely don't know anything about love. I can't believe I talked like I did. I don't.
All I want like in the world is to just keep talking to you. I want to know how your day was.
Where you want to eat. And I want to argue with you. And I want to hear all your theories.
Even the ones that are just completely you know wrong. And I know it's not that simple.
I don't know. I just think. No I really believe that if you just. If you'd just be willing
to continue having this conversation with me. Then we can figure the rest out.
I'm gonna be late for school. What? Do you want to give me a ride?
Uh yeah. Yeah it's not gonna make you late. So I'm late. What are they gonna do right?
Hey Pop. I got somebody I want you to meet. Hey. It's Savannah. Hi. It's nice to meet you Mr. Tyree.
Wow. Wow. He's my. He collects coins. He um. It's kind of like his big cub. This is amazing.
You have so many coins. How did you get started in all this? Uh uh through John actually.
It's not his thing anymore. You know what? We should probably maybe go. What is this coin?
That's a that's a Sacagawean mule.
Do you want to see some more? Yeah absolutely yes. If you. If you don't mind. Put this uh
glove on. Thanks. This is a humorous one. This is a. This is a satirical coin. Um. This is massive.
Yeah William Jennings Bryant. When he ran for president. He was. He believed in. No don't turn
over. Don't just leave it here. Do you remember that he had the the free silver policy? You
remember. Oh. And and McKinley was his opponent and he's. Here now see this. See that's a real
silver dollar. That's the size of the silver dollar. Wow. And and McKinley said that if
Bryant. So good. Bryant had his way. Then then the silver dollars would be that big.
Yeah. That's amazing. Can you imagine? No. Walking around with that in your pocket.
Yeah. That's really funny.
No. We can't do this right now. I gotta. We can't be here all night.
These are all matched uh in color. I have fun tonight. I like your dad.
You shouldn't be too hard on him. He loves you. I can tell even if you can't.
Whoa wait a minute. Wait Savannah. I mean I guess I'll see you soon then. I'll see you soon then.
It's your own spring break. You're supposed to be lounging the beach all day.
You're not supposed to be busy doing things. I want to show you something. The family that
lives here. Their home was severely damaged by the hurricane. What so now you're rebuilding it? Yep.
Well not just me. You're starting to make me a little nervous. Why am I starting to make you
nervous? Because I'm starting to think you might be too good of a person for me. Oh yeah. I'm not that good
of a person. You'd be sneaking off every day to do manual labor on a house for charity
on your spring break. Yeah you're right. It's it's selfish really. Me being this generous.
But no seriously. You don't you don't drink. Nope. You don't smoke. Nope.
Well you probably don't sleep around. Absolutely not.
Okay look you gotta have a vote. Come on. I do. Okay. Care to enlighten me? I curse.
I do. No you don't. Yes I do. I haven't heard you. Well that's because it's in my mind. There's a
never-ending stream of curse words that I'm thinking at all times. Okay fine. Say one then.
No I can't tell you because it's filthy. Right. Yeah. Okay. All right. Fair enough. No I have
faults John. Trust me. I have plenty of them. We'll see. Hope so. We have to be finished with
this entire house in three weeks. Hope that actually happens. Um these are gonna be the
bedrooms. The parents room. The boys rooms. The two boys seven and nine. Uh living room
in the bathroom. And then this is the kitchen. This is the best room because the mom's a really
good cook. We're gonna make it really beautiful with um white tile floors and tiles um countertops
and and there's gonna be a roof. Here John come here. The roof would definitely be good.
This but it's gonna be everywhere. Nice. Where'd you get your scar?
That one? A knife fight. It was five years ago. I was really drunk and the guy went for my went
for my eye. That's terrible. Why? You missed. The way people act around you. The way they treated
you at that restaurant. It's like they're scared of you. They're not scared of me. They might be
scared of who I used to be. Then who is that? Somebody different. So when did you change when
you went into the army? Yeah yeah I mean partly yeah. And the other part? Oh I'm still working on
that. So you used to be tough and maybe still are a little bit. You don't scare me John. No?
Oh you scare me.
Is that where you keep all your toys? It's way more fun. It's a portal. Like the Bermuda
Triangle. It's a natural phenomenon. The institute was built around it.
Some say that the institute was the first building in New York.
So dimensions aren't all just straight lines. There's bends, folds and nooks. It's a little bit
difficult to explain but the portal can take you wherever you want to go in this dimension.
So as soon as you break that surface you're transported to wherever your deepest thoughts
lie. So that means my mom. Wait. We spend our entire lives training how to use it.
Visualizing where it will take us before we step into it and that takes incredible
focus. If you were to step into it without the proper training you could end up in limbo. Lost
in your own mind forever. Here let me show you. Come on. No peeking. Pretty cool isn't it? Now
you and I have a birthday to celebrate. How did you know? Research and I was trying to find you.
No one comes up here anymore. We have the place to ourselves. This is breathtaking.
Sorry there's no cake. Well I was expecting nothing so this is great. Well everyone should
get something for their birthday. What did you get? Weapons mostly. I'm sure that doesn't surprise
you. At this point nothing really does. When I was nine my father gave me a falcon. He told me to
make it obedient. I was supposed to keep the bird blind but I didn't bring myself to do it. Instead
I touched and stroked its wings until it trusted me. I tamed it to perfection. I took it to my
father expecting him to be proud of what I'd done. He said I told you to make it obedient.
Instead you taught it to love you. You didn't tame it you broke it. He took the bird and broke its
neck. I cried all night and I never cried again. Did you ever forgive him? He did it to make me
stronger. Does that stand for Weyland? Midnight.
When a girl says she wants a big rock she doesn't literally mean a big rock.
Every shadowhunter should have their own website.
We have company. Well that's Hodges bird.
Where should we go?
We should definitely go.
No I didn't kiss Margaret. Margaret kissed me. I backed up. I don't want to be with Margaret.
You gorgeous idiot. Run. Don't wait on love. Fight for it. Don't worry about the age difference.
I'm 29. Honey no one's 29. Do you know where she went? She said she wanted to walk around and do
some people watching. That's what she said? People watching? I think it was more of a
euphemism for crying alone. No it's not. I think I know where she might be. Good god man go get her.
Scour the city block by block. Scan the grid. First north south then east west. Leo I know
exactly where she is. Oh well that makes it a lot easier. I just need to find my moving train.
What's going on here? Is that coffee? Uh yeah. Okay. Toads to toads.
Thank you. She kissed me. I know that's a bullshit excuse but it's true.
I couldn't find a moving train. Sorry it's the best I can do.
Are you out of your mind? Yeah because it's been two years since we met and I haven't spent every
single day with you. That's the sign of a crazy person. I hated you. I didn't really give you a
choice. I definitely didn't hate you even though you called me a bitch. I said you were acting
like a bitch. No I was a bitch. The way I handled everything. The way I handled the first night. The
I thought you were gonna regret it and I couldn't face the idea of losing someone else that I
I really loved. Last night was the first thing I haven't regretted in a long time.
I love the way we fight. I love how smart you are. I love the weird way you stick your hands down my
pants and I love how you know what you don't want and if it's not me if I don't check all your boxes
if I'm not the one I get it. You really ******* suck. So you're gonna kiss me now? Yeah I am.
At all. You don't have an iron in your hair. No I don't. It's pretty. Still married? Sure.
What are you doing in New York? Uh well I've been writing a television show. Really? No there's an
experience. It happens so fast. Shoot it all in one day. Live. On the air. Everybody running around
in a constant state of panic. Do you remember how it was in the radio? Yeah. Same thing here.
Only with cameras and craziness. My god what craziness. Make a great comic novel. Sounds
wonderful. Really. The text is ready sir. Um listen I'm awfully late. Um will you please call
and come for a drink please? It's the only David X Cohn in the book. Nice to meet you.
What's the X for? The only David X Cohn in the book.
How we doing huh? Oh 122 on that one. Yeah and Charlene call from downtown. She's doing just
great. Marvelous. Wonderful. That's a good one too. You never give up do you? When I'm absolutely
forced to. But I'm a very good loser. Better than I am. Your girl is lovely Hubble. Why don't you
bring her for a drink when you come? I can't. She is just beautiful. You would be so proud of her.
I'm glad. Is he a good father? Yes. See you.
I'm just as scared as you are Sarah but I'm right here and our time is right now. Oh yeah
but what about before? Sarah I am a guy. Since when do we get anything right the first time? Well
I'm a realist and I know what love does to people. No you don't. Keys. Keys. I don't know who this is
and I don't care. What I do know is he'll never feel about you the way that I do.
You know how to drive a stick? Both of you shut up.
You okay? Yeah no it's fine. Maybe I should drive. Are you trying to get yourself killed?
If that's what it takes. Sarah what happened? He jumped on the car. Why? Because that's what
people do. They leap and hope to god they can fly. Because otherwise we just drop like a rock
wandering the whole way down. Why in the hell did I jump? But here I am Sarah.
Fallen. One person that makes me feel like I can fly. That's you. You kind of like me huh? I love you.
I've loved you for nine years. I've just been too arrogant and scared to realize it and well now
I'm just scared so I I realize this comes at a very inopportune time but I really have this gigantic
favor to ask of you. Choose me. Marry me. Let me make you happy.
That sounds like three favors doesn't it? That's our maid of honor. She's from New York.
Anybody leave the car unlocked? Nobody trusts anybody anymore.
A good Samaritan. There's just too little love. Yeah it is scary. It's terrifying especially when I'm
in love with a psycho like you. I am not a psycho. Love? I just told you that I loved you and all you
heard was psycho. You're the definition of neurotic. No the definition of neurotic is a person who
suffers from anxiety, obsessive thoughts, compulsive acts and and physical ailments without any objective
evidence. Shut up. Yet again I just told you I'm in love with you and you're standing here giving me
a vocabulary lesson. You're in love with me. Why? Beats the ---- out of me but I am.
