Welcome to the first episode of this 2025 pre-summer series as we tour beautiful British Columbia in our Beaver Class A motorhome. View the amazing scenery and learn of interesting places and people as we slowly work our way in this first episode from Vancouver Island, through the Fraser Valley into the infamous Fraser Canyon region of the province.. This is not an excursion through overly populated cities and highways; rather, a trip where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the small towns, places and people that make this wild and beautiful part of Canada their home. Not scripted or professionally documented, we just want to share with you the raw beauty and mystique of this part of the world - a place we encourage you to explore and stay a while.
Hi folks remember last fall when I last spoke to you about road travel when we were getting our
beaver motorhome ready for the 2025 traveling season when we had to replace our 27 year old
Norcold absorption refrigerator cutting it in half remember the mess I made to get it out
and preparing the hole for a replacement then heading down to our local marine store
where we found a used AC DC compressor style marine refrigerator no more propane
there's a Dometic at a steal of a price of about $625 versus probably $25 or $3,500 that we would
have spent on a new one it's a little worn on the front but I can fix that and then surgery
that interrupted everything I had to have my knee replaced with this weird mechanical thing
and then when I was healed enough after three or four months remember I made new panels for the
new fridge installed the fridge which turned out pretty good although I messed up on the color
and to test my new knee after four months I drove about 30 kilometers to our local RV shop
to have our 27 year old propane tank revalved and certified for another lifetime it's a huge
tank about 120 liters and then I slapped on some grease on our blue ox tow bar remember that video
of preparing and making your tow bar happy and then for some weird reason I sat on a bench by
the ocean and told you about a route that we were planning for the summer of 2025 that I referred
to as a Marge Simpson route well we're finally there we're on the Marge Simpson route in British
Columbia so let's get aboard Monty and see what's happening inside and out
hi yes you do well at this early stage of our trip I had already lost my wife
no I knew Michaela was behind me in our little tow car the white Fiat Lola we usually don't
attach the tow car when we go on the ferries because number one if you ever have to back up
and you've got your tow car attached it's very difficult you have about six inches of play and
that's it and secondly we have issues grinding the tow bar into the the car deck at times on the BC
ferries because of the tide issues if the ramp isn't fairly flat and you've got a bit of a rise
you can really grind your your tow bar so we just separate the two of them and then we catch up
so on this highway I knew that there was a pull out just ahead and that's where I was going to go
and wait for Michaela this is honey is Campbell's
and that would be it
isn't that a beautiful building where do we go to the left or right this park near the
the barn so let me just do the run all right so we're back in Maudie of course we have to
taste this what we just bought so honey what's the verdict so honey it's all honey fireweed
vanilla cinnamon Grand Marnier spiced rum and amaretto I think amaretto is my favorite
although I love the vanilla and the cinnamon's to die for and then what about the wine
oh this is the mead this is straight up mead and this one has
kick sap berries and crab apple and they're all delicious terrific but that's not your dinner
huh did you see this line said it can wait text stop four and a half kilometers and it
oh really so they they provide hot spots
that is great so we're on our way to Boston Park we are yes
it's bringing us back to the Derry
continue straight on seven zero okay
I think it's a good idea when I was behind you this morning I know
that you didn't have any rear lights on once in a while yeah I think that there's
legality issue I don't want to show you a big vehicle
that's the elk said scuzzy creek oh right around gas was super cheap it was $149.99
peaceful cake babe
where do we sign in you know I feel kind of funny walking around with my camera at this time of day
so I don't want to do that I'm just going to scan the the park it's not very big
you can see how it's terraced up the slope but you know you can come up here and let's go see
our friends Ross and Sarah who are traveling with us in their 1987 Volkswagen Ispalia
hi Sarah are you oh my goodness do you mind me filming you this is Sarah my dear friend from
high school and this is her husband Ross hey Ross you're on tape man
okay we had a shower in that what did you how was it that was great and they don't
yeah this was a freebie and hot hot water hot hot water it's all good good
so yeah it's been a great location like our little place up here this is really nice
can I just scan the inside of Vincent I love that fridge I do know it but it's a it's a
okay well there we are Ross and Sarah's campsite I've disturbed them so I think I'll walk around
and disturb more people okay let's walk up to the office and just check this out before we leave
now I met the owner's daughter last night she's amazing she's a lovely person
she's a really accomplished singer and she travels here two hours from the Abbotsford
area which is near Vancouver to help her mom and dad out and they've done a great job just
fixing this place up so let's go inside hi Alicia hi Bill how are you very nice to see you
again nice to see you too we feel like family already we came in last night and you made us
feel so welcome oh so could you tell us a little bit about this place and and where do people come
from we're from the U.S. Canada people do come from the U.S. we get a lot of travelers who are
heading up to Alaska which is really exciting because they have a lot of adventures to tell
us about we have travelers especially in the last few years who are more local so we have people
coming who live in Abbotsford or in Pitt Meadows and they're wanting to check out our own province
now instead of traveling abroad so much so people really do come from everywhere including
we have some people in fact checking in tomorrow from England so oh wow we have a lot of people
from from Holland and Germany and England Denmark it's do they stay long most times when people are
here internationally they'll stay one or two nights yeah because they do have quite an itinerary that
they're sure focusing on but it is so fun like with all the different types of guests that we have
you know some of them we've had people book and they're you know saying we're going to come and
we're going to take the ferry on this day and it'll be like a Friday long weekend and I'll and
I'll be like you might want to rethink that because you know it's uh it's going to be really busy so
so it's nice to help travelers kind of you know make their itinerary and stuff too well you've
done a wonderful job and we're coming back and you've made our trip started our trip really
special thank you oh I'm so glad we can't wait to have you guys back and hopefully for two nights
so we can you guys spend some time with you okay thanks to meet all of you thanks Alicia bye
