The morning atmosphere at the collapsed shelter aid site in Moc Chau Son La begins to stir early
From the moment the sun rose a steady stream of people began moving toward the border crossing
Beautiful girls suddenly appeared in large numbers each dressed in the most vibrant traditional outfits
Just stepping back to look from a distance is enough to sense the very distinctive festive atmosphere of this border region
There are moments when you're so moved to become better that you can't tell whether you're still in Vietnam or have somehow wandered into some other cultural realm of Laos
Amid the bustling crowd the most striking figures were the women in traditional silver-embellished attire their forms accentuated by the shimmering ornaments
With every step forward the jingle of coins rang out cheerfully a joyful melody in hand
Some people wear silver so heavy it weighs several kilograms with an estimated value reaching tens of millions of Vietnamese đồng
The Lantern Festival was held on the 2nd day of the 9th lunar month which fell in September of the Gregorian calendar
The site is located in Long Sap Village about 1 kilometer from the international border gate
On this day people from numerous villages nearby as well as from across the border in Laos arrived in great numbers
Border troops on both sides facilitated people's free movement for leisure and sightseeing making the festive atmosphere even more vibrant
It's very difficult to tell who is Vietnamese and who is Lao when walking through a crowd
The outfit the style the smile—they seemed perfectly blended
There were groups of young people chatting animatedly as they walked and couples strolling hand in hand
Many also come here hoping to find a new romance
People often joke that going on a date isn't just about attending a party—it's also about finding a spouse
The closer you get to the border monument the more people there
are Everyone wants to stop by for a photo at this special spot
On one side lies Vietnam on the other Laos From here you can
gaze across the border to the village on the opposite side
There are girls you've never met in person yet you've seen them filming videos and posting them online
The faint smile amid the mountainous landscape makes anyone who sees it feel at ease
Some couples had already known each other beforehand enjoying the festival together and soaking in the festive atmosphere of the new year
And there were also new connections forming just beginning to get acquainted a few minutes ago
They could now stroll together and watch the festival truly embodying the spirit of highland companionship
Once past the milestone area the crowd continued moving down toward the main
event zone growing denser with every step at times advancing only inch by inch
From a distance the main stage looked like a sea of people with music
and laughter blending together to create a vibrant lively atmosphere
Along both sides of the road are food stalls offering a wide
variety of dishes from grilled foods and crispy pancakes to drinks
The prices are quite affordable with dishes ranging from about 10 000 to 30 000 dong each
Suitable for both local residents and tourists alike
The food area also drew a significant number of Laotians coming to participate in the festival
The aromatic grilled foods that instantly remind people of markets across the
border in Laos due to their remarkably similar preparation methods
Sitting in this space enjoying a meal while watching the flow of
people pass by one naturally finds the journey far more worthwhile
Isn't it precisely these vibrant moments of life that give experiential travel its true essence
Not only does the Tinh Long Market offer
food and socializing but it also hosts various traditional folk games
Notable events include tug-of-war ring toss sack races and especially the night rice cake competition
The young men eager to join the rice cake pounding wielded the heavy
pestle with powerful rhythmic swings that left onlookers in awe
Making a delicious chewy rice cake requires great effort from
pounding the rice to shaping it and wrapping it in banana leaves
The finished buns were scored based on size and chewiness creating a
lively atmosphere that balanced serious competition with lighthearted fun
In addition to the stage booths showcasing local products also drew significant attention
Highland agricultural products and local specialties are presented to visitors as a way to promote indigenous culture

scene that blends lively energy with the distinct character of a border region
Lung Sap Love Market is not just a festival
but also a cultural exchange between Vietnam and Laos bridging tradition and modernity

is undoubtedly a destination worth visiting at least once in a lifetime
And who knows after this trip each person might return not only with

Taphoi Market – Hợp Thà
This is Tà Phời – Hợp Thành Market bustling to life the moment dawn breaks
As mountain mist still clung to each bundle of bok choy roasted root vegetables and the sacred medicinal plant
Laughter and the calls of vegetable vendors echo through the serene atmosphere of Hợp Thành – Tà Phời village
Just 20 to 25 km from the center of Lao Cai City
Unlike modern markets Tà Phời Market is a place where ethnic communities gather to trade goods and exchange cultures
like the depths of the womb greens paper tày and distant relatives
Stepping into the market is like entering a vid scene of daily life where the goods on display are incredibly eye-catching
One thing you can't miss when visiting that market is the fresh mountain and rural produce
Crops such as corn sweet potatoes and cassava are abundantly available looking incredibly fresh and priced very low
Prices vary between 10 000 and 30 000 VND per kilogram depending on the type
The cuisine here is also a memorable experience with bustling stalls offering a variety of traditional pastries
Such as gai cake sticky rice cake purple glutinous rice sticky rice and sticky rice cooked in bamboo all made from fresh rice along with the famous grilled dishes
The Tà Phời Market in the video also leaves a strong impression due to its extremely bustling snack and breakfast area
People from the local community and visitors alike begin gathering at the market very early
Small temporary stalls line the path requiring only a few low tables and glowing charcoal stoves
That created an enticing aroma that filled the entire market
At the entrance of the market are stalls selling sugarcane juice lime tea and other inexpensive drinks
Each cup costs only about ten thousand dong—affordable and easy to drink just like the countryside market style you'd expect up in the highlands right
In addition there are stalls selling grilled mooncakes pounded rice cakes corn cakes and fried sweet potatoes
Freshly fried and ping hot with a rich savory aroma the vendor chats casually with customers while preparing the food
Venturing deeper inside the breakfast area comes into clear view showcasing the familiar dishes of the highlands
Simple noodle stalls with steaming bowls of broth offering both soup and dry noodles
Next to it is a counter serving fresh hot bánh cuốn—thin and soft prepared right there on the spot served with crispy fried shallots and a savory dipping sauce
Shoppers often stop by for a quick bite of a bowl before continuing
their shopping creating a very everyday and authentic atmosphere
In addition to food the market also features stalls selling vegetables handmade wooden items from vegetable stakes to handles for hoes and axes as well as wooden tools
All of them bring practical benefits directly serving the daily labor lives of people in mountainous regions
The seamless blend of dining trading and everyday life at Tạp Vời Market has made it much more than a place for exchanging goods
but also a vid portrait of life in the highland villages known for their tree cultivation
This highland market has a unique character that becomes immediately apparent the moment you arrive setting it distinctly apart from so many others
Street vendor stalls aren't fixed in place—those who arrive early get the best spots while latecomers end up at the back
Inside the main market area there are fixed seating spots arranged according to stall walls
At first light as the sun rose people quickly settled into their spots to begin a bustling day of trading
Selling goods right on the road is usually prohibited and may result in a fine
Yet in this market people sit in tight neat rows creating a very orderly and visually pleasing scene
Venturing deeper inside the livestock sales area is always the busiest spot from early morning
People typically take advantage of the opportunity to buy large quantities of chickens and ducks
This market only operates on weekends so the entire street becomes bustling a stark contrast to weekdays
These chickens here are used not only for food but also in traditional festivals
Around 7:30 a m the market was already bustling with people and as one walked further from the entrance they would reach the area selling burnt pancakes
Steaming hot batches of bánh bò or bánh đúc are sliced into small pieces for sale
On the streets many people had already begun heading home their backs laden with goods purchased from the market
That scene familiar yet strange created a uniquely distinctive atmosphere characteristic of the highlands
This market is renowned for its fresh delicious vegetables and fruits grown in open fields or forests
Right in front of us are plump pomelos—three of them for just 20 000 VND incredibly cheap aren't they
Next to it is the sweet potato a staple ingredient that becomes tender and sweet when cooked slowly making it a favorite among locals
This market is located right in the heart of Yên Minh District Hà Giang attracting a considerable number of visitors
Continuing on a bit further you'll come across fried rice cakes a familiar dish commonly seen during festive occasions
Nearby are skewer grills with each skewer priced at just 5 000 Vietnamese đồng
The breakfast area is also bustling with pho and bun
Here pho is typically served with pork instead of beef a distinctive feature compared to many other places across Vietnam
It's not just food—this market also sells used phones at surprisingly low prices ranging from about one million to three million dong
Traditional Vietnamese rice distribution counters attract many people because they are essential items in daily life
In addition there are stalls selling clothing jewelry and luggage in vibrant eye-catching colors
PHIÊN TRỢN ĐỐC LẠI TẠI TÊI BẮC
I am currently present at a highland assistance session for the Mông Ngây community in the border region
This session only takes place on weekends so by early morning the three of them had already gathered in large numbers
The atmosphere here is truly different from the market down below
People brought a wide variety of goods from agricultural products and household items to food clothing and handicrafts
Proceeding further inside is a shop selling corn liquor and agricultural products
This area is incredibly bustling already packed with people from early morning
The corn liquor here is made entirely by hand using leaf yeast its strong aroma spreading throughout the market
Some customers even taste the wine on the spot nodding in approval after drinking praising its delicious flavor
Adjacent to it is the weaving area Many Mong
women sit while selling goods weaving patterns into the scales
These patterns are used for dyeing skirts shirts bags or sold to traders
Only by examining each delicate line of the embroidered patterns do you fully appreciate the vibrant beauty and intricate artistry of the local people's craftsmanship
The highland market truly means a marketplace for fresh clean agricultural products folks
Tomatoes plums pears and wild greens were piled high on handcrafted wooden tables
These tables are typically made from pine wood giving them a very rustic appearance
The local agricultural products are mostly grown by villagers using their own seeds and cultivated on terraced fields
It doesn't look particularly appealing but it's extremely reassuring to eat
Some types of plums are only used for soaking in alcohol and not eaten raw because they are extremely tart
I also saw many valuable medicinal herbs being sold at the market:
fresh tam thất golden thread orchid wild pineapple and wild mushrooms
The seller enthusiastically recommended various options from steamed sliced honey-soaked to boiled for drinking
Venturing deeper inside is the traditional herbal medicine section Here you'll find remedies for a
wide range of ailments from stomach and intestinal issues to circulatory problems and joint conditions
Some elderly couples go to buy medicine for their parents back home
The buying and selling process is very simple—just ask a few questions get some advice and buy no signs or advertisements are needed
One corner of the market that really appeals to me is the incense section
Highland incense is handmade bundled into small bunches and sellers burn a bit for customers to smell the fragrance
A subtle deeply pleasant aroma utterly different from the industrial scents found downstream
Standing here for a moment I felt my heart slow down continuing forward I’d come across stalls selling traditional bags
Handwoven by Mong women the bags feature exquisite patterns and each woman can carry several dozen
If we sell out today we'll head to a different market tomorrow if not we'll continue to the next weekly market
The weather in the highlands changes very rapidly it rained continuously just a few days ago and this morning it only cleared up briefly
As they walked thick fog rolled in gradually enveloping the surrounding mountains and forests
Locals know a heavy rain is coming just by seeing the clouds
That's exactly right—within just 15 to 20 minutes the rain had already started pouring down
No sooner had the command been given than the wind rushed in whipping through the entire area
It's raining so let's head inside to the food area Here you'll
find pho vermicelli and grilled snails with beans all available
Eating meat with snails and a bit of pork is a very distinctive dish among the Mông people
After the rain mist shrouded everything making the scenery far more magical
Standing in the middle of the bustling market watching the three vendors at work children running around playing and adults chatting casually
The pace of life in highland areas is clearly very different from that in cities
After walking around to take a look only when returning to assess the whole scene did it become clear that this market session was more than just a place for buying and selling
but also a place for meeting exchanging ideas and preserving
culture Each volunteer brings along their own unique story
And for me this trip was truly a very memorable experience
