Hey everyone, I'm Elizabeth, one of the wardrobe stylists here at CGSI.
It's officially holiday party season and the what do I wear panic has set in. Whether you're going
to a black tie event, you have your office party coming up, a cozy family event at home,
what are you wearing? Today I'm going to go through all of the holiday party occasions.
We've got four looks. I'm going to do black tie, work party, cocktails with friends,
and cozy family gathering. So let's get into it.
First up, the big one, black tie. Think formal, elegant, and polished,
but that doesn't mean it has to feel stuffy or dated. When wearing a black tie dress,
you definitely want to make sure it is a full length dress. No minis. We are not wearing
our mini dresses to a formal event. I'm really into sleek silhouettes this year.
So anything that is form fitting, like a column dress, anything in a luxe fabric,
think satins, velvet, something with a shimmer or a sparkle. That's what we're looking for in
our holiday party black tie dress. If dresses aren't for you, that's totally okay. Instead,
you could swap out a dress and replace it with a wide leg satin pants jumpsuit. That would be
absolutely appropriate. Dress it up with some great jewelry. You can go for a statement or
you can keep it more sleek, a slick back bun, maybe do a statement lip and grab a really cute
clutch and you are ready for your black tie holiday party. Next, the work party. This look
can be a little bit tricky because you want to look festive, but still professional. The key here
is balancing polish plus personality. I absolutely love the look that I've gone with today. I would
totally wear this to a work party. I feel like it brings out a lot of my personality,
the shape of the dress, the fur trim. It definitely feels like me. However, I have
decided to pair this dress with a long sleeve mock neck, which definitely feels a little more
professional and conservative and that I'm covered up. I've added some statement jewelry and a fun
sparkly purse, but yet I still feel put together and office appropriate. I also love the idea of
going with more tailored or structured look, especially if you are going from desk to drinks.
You may not have time to head home and get changed before you head to the party, so wearing a blazer
and a really nice trouser to the office would be great. Take off the blazer, add a shirt with a
little bit of shimmer or some sparkle and you're definitely holiday party ready. Also, accessories
go a long way. If you aren't into a dress with a fur trim, a sparkly bag, some statement jewelry,
a great lip, those can all add to a festive look without feeling costumey.
Okay, this is where we get to have fun. The cocktail party look. Think bold, playful,
and confident. Sequins? Yes. Feathers? Why not. Velvet? Absolutely. The trick to styling the
holiday party look is balance. If you're wearing something that's very loud, covered in sequins,
such a vibe, go with more sleek accessories. The outfit that I've chosen for my cocktail look
is more sleek and chic. Feels a little bit more refined, but definitely has some flair and some
edge to it. It does have the shoulder pads giving that pronounced shoulder, as well as this draped
sash here. But because these are still pretty subtle details, I have decided to go with more
of a statement in my jewelry. I do have on a chunkier earring and a cuff that I've placed
over top of my sleeve, just adding to a little bit more of the drama. And while a full length
dress is absolutely the choice for a black tie event, going with something a little shorter,
a little sexier, is absolutely great for a cocktail look. The most important thing you
want to keep in mind when choosing your cocktail look is choosing something you feel good in and
that's going to bring out your confidence. And finally, the holiday gathering at home
with family and friends. Think cozy, but make it chic. You still want to feel festive,
but this is the time to wear soft textures, easy silhouettes. Think things like cashmere knits,
a matching set, a silk skirt. You could obviously opt in for a knit dress. I feel like this is kind
of a given and what everybody goes for. I personally think this year we should forego
the knit dress and go for something that feels a little more chic and a little more intentional.
I am super comfy in my look right now. My pants are stretchy, but they do have a little added
bow detail. I've gone for some asymmetry in my top. It's very drapey, feels very festive,
but also very, very chic at the same time. I've layered in jewelry that's both a statement,
but also sleek at the same time so as not to overpower the outfit. Also, if you're hosting
a gathering at home or you are attending a gathering at someone's home, you may decide
not to go for a heel, in which case a sleek mule might be a great option. Or you could find a fun
and fancy little festive slipper or slip-on shoe. The vibe for your at-home gathering is effortless,
but intentional. You want to feel festive while feeling cozy. So whether you're headed to a black
tie gala, you're going to your office party, or you're just staying at home for a cozy night with
family and friends, the overall goal is to feel good, feel confident, and celebrate the way you
want to. Holiday dressing doesn't have to be complicated. Don't overthink it. Choose something
that you feel really good in. Something you love. Add a little touch of sparkle, a little touch of
sheen, a little touch of texture, and you'll be set. Have a great day. Thanks so much for
following along with me, and have fun at your parties this season.
