In the video today, I'm going over how to use the Samsung S26 for beginners.
This will be a full beginner's walkthrough.
I'm going to show you everything you'll need to know to learn how to use this phone.
Let's get into the video.
On the right side of the phone, you'll find your volume up and volume down button.
And then you'll find your power standby button.
Now, pressing this button will wake up the phone.
Pressing it again will put the phone to sleep.
Okay, it won't turn the phone off.
It's going to toggle it between the sleep and the power setting.
Now, later on the video, I will show you how to actually power off the phone as well
because it's not going to happen through the power button
unless you make some changes to the settings.
At the bottom of the phone, you will find your charging port.
And this particular model is the S26 Ultra.
So to the left here, you have the S Pen,
which can be used to write and take notes
and access specific shortcuts on the phone as well.
So if you got the base model, you're not going to see that.
You would have gotten,
you would have had to have purchased the Ultra model in order to have access to the Pen.
Now, to the right here, you have your SIM card tray.
Now, this is if you need to take out or swap out the SIM card for your phone service,
you would do that with this slot right here.
You would just use a paperclip or the SIM ejector tool
that comes in the box of your phone to pop out this tray and swap out the SIM card.
Now, one thing you'll notice, this phone does not have an auxiliary port
for your traditional headphones.
But if you do have older headphones that you do want to use with the phone,
this is a really cool adapter you can purchase.
This is a USB-C.
So this will plug into the bottom of your phone here.
And then on the other side here, it actually will give you the auxiliary port
and it will give you a USB-C port.
So you can actually charge your phone while you're plugging in your older headphones.
So I will link this one on screen right here if you guys want to check it out.
This is a really great accessory to get with this phone.
Again, especially if you have those older headphones.
Don't throw them away.
Don't feel the need to have to buy new ones.
You can still use them.
You just have to purchase that adapter.
OK, now the charging type for this phone.
I mentioned it earlier, but I just want to mention it one more time.
It's called a Type-C.
A Type-C charging type.
Now in the box of your phone, it will come with the cable,
but it will not come with the charging brick.
Now that is the piece that actually goes into the wall.
So I did want to give a quick recommendation to a really cool charger.
Now this is a charger by a company called MFISH.
And this is a charger that supports up to 65 watts.
Now one of the benefits of this phone is that you can charge up to 60 watts.
So super fast charging.
But you will need to purchase the proper adapter in order to do this.
This will support the max charging for the phone.
And the cool thing is the cable is actually built into it as well.
So the cable just retracts out.
You plug it into the phone.
You charge it.
When you're done, it retracts and just snaps right back into place.
So this is a really great option if you need to get a charger for your phone.
The prongs pop out just like that.
So great for travel as well.
And I love the fact that it has another full USB-C port right here and a full size USB.
So you could charge, for example, a Bluetooth speaker
and even a pair of headphones while you're charging your phone.
So anyway, I will link this one in the corner right here and also in the description.
If you guys want to check this out.
Great accessory.
This is what I use to charge my S26.
All right, guys, let's now move into how to unlock the phone
and how to get to the home screen and basically how to navigate the main screen.
So if you double tap on the home screen, it will wake it up.
Take your finger and simply drag it up the screen.
And that's how you get into the phone.
Now, later on the video, we will go over how to set a passcode
and how to program your fingerprint so you can unlock it with a code
or with your fingerprint or even with your face.
So stay tuned for that.
We'll cover that later.
Now we are in the phone and this is what is called the home screen.
And so we're going to start with this.
How do you kind of find your way around the phone?
How do you navigate the phone?
So at the bottom here, you'll find three buttons, a home button,
a recent apps button and a back button.
Now we are in what is called the home button gesture navigation.
There is another way this phone does get set up.
And I want to show you that really quickly.
Now to do that, we have to go to our settings app.
How do we get to settings?
Take your finger, simply drag it up the screen.
This will take you to what is called your app drawer.
This is where all the apps that are downloaded on the phone are stored.
And we're going to swipe up until we get to the settings app.
There it is.
Tap on settings.
From here, you want to tap on display and then swipe up.
And we're looking for navigation bar.
And then this is how you can toggle between the different ways the phone is set up.
So we are set up under the button navigation.
There is also the swipe gesture navigation.
When you switch to this, it gets rid of the buttons.
But then you have to use gestures to navigate the phone.
Which in my opinion, this is a harder way to use the phone.
So I always like to switch back to buttons.
So I just wanted to show you this in case you don't see those three buttons
at the bottom of your screen.
If you follow these steps, it will take you to this option where you can switch.
Get those buttons to show up again.
And then you'll be able to follow along with the video a little bit easier.
All right.
Now, this brings us to our first lesson about the buttons.
This is the home button.
And this button, when you press it, it simply takes you back to the home screen.
No matter what you're doing, this button will help you get back to your main screen.
Now, let's say we go into Google Chrome, which is your web browser.
And you want to search the Internet.
Let's say you want to go on Amazon, do some shopping and you're doing the shopping.
And now you want to get back to your home screen.
We tap the home button.
Really simple.
But there are times when this isn't as simple.
For example, let's say I'm watching a YouTube video.
Now, let's lower the volume so it won't go crazy loud when I show this.
But let's say we're watching a YouTube video and let's see, find the video.
OK, if this video is open in full screen, you don't see that home button right now,
because whenever you're watching a full screen video, it will hide the buttons.
So you will need to basically from the bottom of the phone, swipe up.
And that's how you get the buttons to show.
So as you can see, they're there.
But I have to swipe up and then I get the home button and I can press it to get back
to the home screen.
So that's just a quick note of something you will encounter when using the phone.
If you don't see the button, swipe up from the bottom where the charging port is.
And that's how you get that button to show.
Now, to the right here, we have what is called your back button.
This just takes you back one step.
And it really is used when you're in a menu and you need to go back a page or two in the
menu.
So, for example, if we go to the settings right now, we just talked about being in the
navigation bar and how to make these changes.
Let's say I want to go one page back in the settings.
I'm going to tap the back button right here and it will take us back one step.
If I want to go back another page, I can tap on this arrow all the way in the corner or
I can just tap the back button right here.
That's all this button does.
It just helps you get back one step.
Now, guess what?
We're now on the main page of the settings app.
If I press it again, there's nowhere else to go.
So it'll take me out of the app and back to the home screen.
So that's when you would use this button.
And then lastly, we have what is called the recent apps button.
Pressing this will basically show you the last app or apps that you've used.
So in this case, we just use the settings app.
So tapping it takes us right back to settings.
We're on the home screen.
Go to recent apps.
Guess what?
I was just in the settings app.
I can now tap it to get back there and continue navigating the settings.
Here's the thing.
When you open an app, if you hit the home button and you go back to the home screen,
that app is still running in the background of the phone.
It won't close until you actually close it.
That's why pressing this will have it continue to run.
That YouTube video we just saw still running in the background.
So if I want to actually close out YouTube, I have to come here and then swipe up.
And that will actually close the app.
So it's no longer running in the background of the phone.
Same thing with our Google Chrome.
Same thing with our settings.
I just swipe up and now it's actually closed.
That's how you close apps on your phone.
You can also press this close all button and this will just close all the apps in one swoop.
Sometimes you want to keep some apps open.
So that's why you wouldn't use the close all button.
Sometimes you just want to swipe up and close that one app.
So now you know how to do both.
So that's a brief run-through of the navigation buttons that you'll be using
to navigate the phone and kind of find your way around.
Now on the home screen here, as you swipe left and right,
there are different pages of apps that you will see.
And this is how you can obviously organize the phone.
If I swipe to the right and I keep swiping,
it's going to take me to my Google Now or Google Home page.
This is a customized page that basically will show you different pieces of information
depending on what you search on your phone.
I searched a lot of basketball.
So you can see at the top it has the basketball scores
and it has some recommended YouTube videos and some other things.
So this is a really easy way to get to Google and also to track
whatever things you like to track in terms of sports or news or finance or things like that.
You just swipe to the right to get to that Google page.
Okay, let's continue on to some other really important tips
when it comes to navigating the phone.
So when you swipe down from the top of the screen, one of two things will happen.
If you swipe down to the left of the little camera, it'll bring up your notifications.
And in this section, you'll find new emails, new text messages, app notifications.
If it's time for an update, all those things will come through
when you swipe down from the left side.
Now, when you swipe down to the right of the camera,
this quick settings menu comes up.
And think of this as your control panel where you find
some of the most frequently used settings on the phone.
I want to take some time and go through everything in this menu
because this is where you control a lot of what your phone does.
So starting with your power button.
If you want to power off your S26, your power button is right here.
When you tap on that button, it brings up your power options.
Power off, your restart, and even your emergency call mode.
If you find yourself in emergency, you can do an emergency call from there.
So that's how you power your phone off.
Now, some other things you'll find here.
You'll find your shortcut to your settings.
You can tap here.
This will take you right to the settings menu.
So no matter where you are on the phone, swipe down.
And that's your quick way to get right to the settings.
Now, next, we have here some other really important things.
So, for example, your Wi-Fi.
When these switches are lit up, for example, my Wi-Fi is lit up in white.
That means that my Wi-Fi is turned on.
If I want to turn off my Wi-Fi, I simply tap it.
It goes gray.
And that means that now I'm not connected to Wi-Fi.
Let's turn it back on.
OK, let's say I want to connect to a new Wi-Fi network.
Maybe I just got my phone home and I want to put it on my home network.
I'm going to long press on this button for one second.
It'll take me into the settings.
And this is where I can look for new Wi-Fi networks, select the one that's relevant,
and then I can put in my password.
So that's how easy it is.
And that's the same process whether you're at home
or you go to a friend's house or you go to a Denny's.
You want to connect to Wi-Fi.
You swipe down on the right side, long press on the Wi-Fi icon,
and that'll take you to the setting to see all the different available networks.
And you tap the one that you need to connect to.
Same process for Bluetooth.
Connecting to a Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headphones.
You long press to get to the settings menu for Bluetooth.
And then you can find your relevant Bluetooth device and then connect.
Now, here you'll have some other really important shortcuts.
But there's more than just the eight you see in this section.
You can actually swipe down and bring up a much larger list.
So you have your airplane mode, your flashlight.
You have your hotspot, your power saving mode, your GPS, your screen recording.
Do not disturb.
What else we have?
Our QR code scanner and your wireless dex.
So you have all these different options.
These are just shortcuts to some of the most frequently used settings on your phone.
And if you long press on any one of them, it'll take you to the settings
where you can then get the full controls for that different item.
Now, when we swipe up here, you're going to see you have a brightness adjuster
and you have a volume control.
Now, these are really important here.
So your phone is set to auto brightness.
It's going to automatically adjust how bright or how dim it should be
based on how well lit the room is that you're in.
Or if you're outside, how much light there is.
But you can manually adjust it at any time just by dragging this to the right or to the left.
So that's how you can, you know, adjust up or down your screen brightness.
Now here, this is for your volume.
If you want to adjust your volume up or down, you have this manual knob here.
You also have your volume control buttons that are on the side of the phone too.
And here you have your switch to toggle between.
Guess what?
Muted, which means no vibration, no ringtone, no sound to full sound.
Everything is on.
Your phone will ring.
It will vibrate everything.
And then you have your just vibrate mode right here.
So that is how you toggle your sound on and off.
And then here you have your toggle for dark mode.
When you tap this right now, dark mode is on.
If I tap it again, it's going to switch the menu to the, you know, lighter option.
Lighter option and then dark mode or the standard option and then dark mode.
And then you have some shortcuts here for your music and your media output.
You have your smart view.
That's if you want to mirror your screen to a TV and you have a Samsung compatible TV.
Or if you have a Roku, you can wirelessly mirror your entire screen to that TV.
And you have some modes here.
This is this is going to control different routines and shortcuts.
You can set up manually on the phone.
This is for connecting to nearby devices, smart things.
You can use this to control your different Samsung devices at home,
like your refrigerator or your vacuum or even your TV.
And then here we have the new privacy display.
If you tap on the privacy display, this will change that setting so that when you
adjust the screen from different angles, you won't be able to see what's happening.
If you want to really dig into the weeds of how you can adjust that privacy setting,
you just need to long press on it for one second and then go to details.
And then this is where you can get into all of the specific things you can turn on and turn off.
Maybe you want it to just block out when a text message comes through,
or maybe you just want it to block out certain apps.
All that is controlled in this section.
Or you can go max privacy and then that really just blocks out everything.
I'm going to turn this off just because I want to make sure you can see the phone clearly.
But that basically was our shortcut.
But that basically was the walkthrough of just your control panel.
And these are just all the different things that are built right in.
And you can access it anytime by swiping down from the right side of the phone here.
Just like that.
Now, small disclaimer.
If you've used Samsung phones in the past, this might be a little frustrating to you
because in the old world or in the older versions of Samsung software,
you would swipe down from the top and it didn't matter if it was the left or the right.
It would bring up the same menu.
And if you want to switch the phone back to those settings, you do this.
You swipe down and you tap on the pencil in the upper right corner
and then go to panel settings and then switch it to together.
And now when you swipe down from the top, watch what's going to happen.
One swipe down brings up the older menu type where you have the shortcuts at the top
and notifications at the bottom.
And then you simply swipe down if you want to bring up the full control panel.
Now guess what?
It doesn't matter if you swipe on the left or on the right.
That same menu comes up.
So that's how you change it for those of you that want it to be closer to how it used to be.
All right.
That was our walkthrough of the notification panel.
Next, we're going to move on to how to download apps
and where your apps save when you download them.
So swipe up on the home screen and we're looking for the Play Store.
This is it right here.
You tap on Play Store and this is where you download apps on your phone.
This is where you can find new apps.
All that happens in this section.
If you want to download a new app, you tap on the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen.
Tap it twice.
This will take you right to the search menu and then you can begin
either typing in the name of the app you want to download
or you can simply tap on the microphone in the upper right corner
and then you can say the name of the app that you want to search for.
Uber Eats.
Just that easy.
You can tap that microphone and you can easily search the app that you want to download.
And it's funny.
I searched for Uber Eats, but it's giving me a sponsor ad for DoorDash.
So I have to skip this one.
And here's my Uber Eats at the bottom here.
Tap on install.
And now it's going to begin downloading the Uber Eats app onto the phone.
Now, when it downloads, where is it going to go?
Well, let's hit our home button.
Swipe up to get to our app drawer.
And this is where you'll see the app download once it finishes.
This is where you'll find every app that is downloaded on the phone.
Now, sometimes apps will hide.
An example of that is there are these folders at the top here.
There's a Google folder, Microsoft, Samsung.
There's two Samsung folders.
Sometimes the app you're looking for is just in a folder.
So be aware of that.
You can always tap on the search at the bottom of the screen.
And then you can either type in the name of the app
or you can tap the microphone and say the name.
And then the app will come up just like that.
Now, one more important thing about this section is that
this does not just search for the apps on your phone.
This will search.
If you look at this section right here, it says
searches will include your apps, app content and files in storage.
So maybe you're looking for a specific picture.
You can actually describe the picture in this menu right here
and it will look through your gallery to see if it finds something that matches.
So this is really cool because it's not limited to just looking for a certain app.
It can look through your app data.
Maybe you're trying to find a restaurant location
and you know someone sent you an email about it.
Well, you could search it here and it would come up.
So this is a very powerful resource to use
when you're trying to find something on your phone.
Okay, for this next section,
I want to show you how to make the text size larger on the phone.
Maybe the words were just a little too small
and you could just benefit from them being a little bit bigger.
Well, we're going to swipe down from the top of the screen.
We're going to tap on our settings wheel in the upper right corner
and then we're going to go up to display
and then we'll swipe up from there and go to font size and style.
This is where you can dial in exactly how large
or how small you want your text to be.
So all I do is drag this to the bubble to the right
and then it'll show me in the preview right here
what it will look like when I increase the size.
And I can just keep ticking up
and you'll see everything getting bigger.
I can also change the font style to make it a little bit clearer
to look at the text.
You can download new fonts here.
You can also tap on bold font
and that also makes the words pop just a little bit more.
Now if I pause here, hit the home button,
you can see now the names underneath each of my apps are much larger.
Same thing will go for when I go to Google Chrome.
You'll notice the text is going to be bigger
and most apps are going to be the same.
You're going to see all the words be definitely much larger.
Now I can tap on my recent apps button here
and I can swipe over and go back to settings
and then I can dial it back down to where I originally had it at.
So that's how you can control
and adjust the size of the font and the text on your phone.
Now so far if you're getting value out of this video,
I'd appreciate you popping that like button down below
and also I appreciate you hitting the hype button.
If you see a hype button that says do you want to hype this video,
please hit that button.
That will let YouTube know that you really like the video
and it'll help them to push it out to a lot more people
and that definitely would help me out.
So I appreciate you taking the time and doing that.
Okay, in this section, we're going to go over how to answer phone calls
and also how to make phone calls.
So there's two different ways calls are going to come through the phone.
Here's the first way.
I'm going to initiate a call so you can see what it looks like.
In this method, it's going to take over the entire screen.
So when you see this, it means you have to take your finger
and you have to basically drag up on the green area
or drag up on the red area.
Green answers and red declines.
Okay, so if I want to answer, I'm going to drag up on the green side
and that basically will answer the phone call.
Okay, now let's do that same call again
and I want to show you how to decline the call.
So again, if you want to decline,
we're going to drag up where you see the red.
I'm dragging up, but I'm going to drag all the way up
and that will decline the call.
Now let's do it one more time
because I want to show you something else you may want to do.
When you decline a call, you can also just,
instead of touching either of these,
you can swipe up where it says send message like this
and it will give you these three options to decline the call
and also send a follow-up text message that says,
please text me, can you call back later, or I'll call you back.
You know, this will decline the call
and also send them a message that tells them,
hey, I can't talk right now, please text me.
So that's the first way you'll see calls come through the phone.
Now here's the second way.
I'm going to initiate this call again,
but this time it's going to look a little different.
It's going to show up as a pop-up at the top of the screen here.
Now you interact with it different when it shows up this way.
You don't swipe over the buttons.
You simply tap the green button to answer
or you tap the red button to decline
or you tap in the center to bring up those options to decline and send a message.
So right now, if I want to answer, I'm just going to tap the green button
and it'll automatically pick up the call and then it will go from there.
Now let me show it one more time.
Initiate the call.
I want to decline.
I'm just going to tap the red button and it's done.
So those are the two ways you will see calls come through the phone
and that's how you will interact with them differently.
It's a little confusing.
I don't know why they have two different ways
and two different ways you have to interact with the call,
but hopefully that makes sense.
It makes it a little bit easier for you,
depending on how the calls come through.
Now I want to address one more important thing, which is voicemails.
So when you get your new phone,
obviously you're going to have to set up your voicemail.
Now, if you want to check your voicemails,
you'll notice on the one here, right below the one,
it actually has the voicemail symbol.
So if you long press on the one,
it will automatically call your voicemail
and then this is how you'll check voicemails
and it's also how you're going to set up your greeting.
So, you know, hey, I'm sorry, I can't come to the phone right now,
leave me a message.
All that will be set up in the menu
just by long pressing on the one
and then you walking through the prompts.
Now, certain carriers will have their own app
that you can use to manage the voicemails,
which are normally much easier than pressing one
and going to voicemail that way.
A good example is T-Mobile.
They have a visual voicemail app
where you can see all the text messages that have come through
and you can basically listen to them.
They will even transcribe them for you
and they have a bunch of options in terms of how you respond.
So you'll want to check with your carrier
to see what they offer in terms of voicemail
and then you'll know if you need to download a separate app.
Some of them, the app will come pre-installed on the phone as well.
So anyway, that's answering calls, that's voicemails.
Now let's talk about how to make a phone call.
So basically in the bottom left corner,
you should see your phone app.
This little green icon with a little phone on it.
You'll tap on that and you'll want to go to keypad
and this is what we're on right now.
And so here you'll simply just type in the phone number
when you want to dial.
There we go.
Our phone number is in
and if I tap the green button here,
it's going to basically start the call
and it will start a normal voice call.
Now if you would like to video chat the person,
you can actually use this icon,
which is the Google Meet icon
and this will basically initiate a video call with that person.
Now you can't do this with everyone.
You can only do this with certain phone numbers
and that person will need to have it set up on the other end
or you won't be able to see them.
So that's something you'll want to play around with.
But if I want to initiate this call,
I've typed in the phone number.
I'm going to hit the green button to start the call
and as soon as you see it counting up at the top here,
that means that the call has connected
and you can begin speaking to that person.
Now here you will have, you know,
your speaker phone button right here.
If you want to play it loud
instead of holding the phone to your ear,
you'll tap on speaker.
If you need to enter one for English
and two for Spanish,
you would tap keypad
and that's how you bring up the numbers.
And then you'll have this option here.
If you have a Bluetooth headset connected,
you would tap that button
and that would basically switch it over to your Bluetooth
or switch it back over to the phone.
So that's general rundown of what it looks like to make calls.
I'm going to end this section with going over
how to add a phone number to your contacts.
Now when you're in the dialer,
you can type in a phone number.
So right now I have this phone number in.
I'm going to change one digit
just to demonstrate the example.
Let's say I want to save someone's phone number into my phone.
The easiest way is going to the phone app,
typing in the phone number
and then tapping on the plus at the top here.
It will give you the option.
Do you want to create a new contact
or do you want to update an existing contact?
Maybe a friend of yours has had a landline for years
and they just got a cell phone.
In that case, if you already had their home number in your phone,
you would tap update existing contact
and then it would allow you to add that phone number
under that same contact.
Whereas if you don't have that person in the phone at all,
you can tap create new contact
and then it will basically create a brand new contact for you
and you'll put in their name and email address
and anything else you want to save along with the phone number.
So that is a general rundown
of how to save a phone number into the phone.
And then in the future, if you'd like to call that person,
you don't have to type in their number every time.
You can tap on this magnifying glass
and you can actually type in the person's name
and the person's name will come up
and then you can look for the phone icon
and call them from there.
So it makes it easier for the future
so you don't have to enter the phone number every single time.
And that's a brief run through of just the different call options
that you will encounter
and important things you'll need to know around calls.
Okay, now before I go into the text messages section,
I did want to point out something.
So this phone has an interesting bump
because of how thick the camera is.
It causes the phone to wobble like this,
which can be really frustrating.
So I use this little thing called the Binx Armor Pop
and this is basically a pop socket.
And one, this helps to stabilize the phone
so that when it's on a table, it doesn't rock crazy.
So this is a cool accessory to use for your phone
and when you have a MagSafe case on it,
this will basically keep it stable
so that it doesn't rock so much on the table.
So FYI, this is a cool accessory.
I'll link it up top right here
if you guys want to check it out.
It's also a pop socket as well.
So it actually, you know,
you can run your finger through it.
It makes it easier to hold the phone.
Again, you do need to have MagSafe case on there
and it has a pop out for a kickstand as well.
So you can prop it up on a table just like that.
So anyway, super cool, really inexpensive
and it's just such a game changer
when it comes to keeping your phone from rocking so much.
Let's move into text messages
and just a basic rundown of how to send
and receive text messages.
So this is the app that you'll use
to interact with text messages.
If you want to message someone, you'll go through there.
If you want to check a message that just came through,
same thing, you go through there.
Let's open it up here.
So right now I have these five text messages
in my inbox here.
So if I want to check any of these messages,
I'm just going to tap on the message
and here I can see the details.
If I want to respond to the message,
I'm going to tap where it says text message.
This will bring up the keyboard
and then it will allow me to type a response.
I might be able to say great deal,
G-R-E-A-T, deal.
And then I'll hit this little paper airplane
to send off the message.
Now, there's so many options
that are built into this section.
So I can't go over everything,
but I want to go over the most important things.
Now, the first thing I want to go over
is how to attach a picture to the text message.
You just took a cool picture.
You want to send it to someone.
You're going to tap on this little gallery icon right here.
And this will take you to two things,
the cameras at the top.
So I can actually hold it up
and take a picture of something if I want
and add it right to the email
or send me the text message.
Or I can come down here and pick a picture
that I already have saved
and I can simply attach it right to the message.
So what that would look like
is me tapping on these two pictures here.
It'll attach them.
And then I would hit the little paper airplane
to send off the message.
And just that easy, I was able to attach
these two pictures to the text message.
Now, I can also send what's called a voice message.
Kind of like sending a voicemail.
So this icon here is if you want to send a voice message.
You would take your finger,
keep it on the button
and you could say,
hey, good morning, hope you have a great day.
And when you're done, let go of the button.
It'll attach it as a voice file.
You can tap this button to play it first
before you send it.
There you go.
And then simply pause it.
And when you're ready to hit send,
hit that button and then it will send off
and the person can listen to it on the other end.
Now, if you hit the plus right here,
you'll see a lot of the other options
that you have available.
So we talked about pictures.
You can go to GIFs
and then you can search for cool animated GIFs
to attach to your picture or to your message.
You can send stickers.
There's Magic Compose
where it'll actually help you write out the message.
You can attach files here instead of pictures.
And you can send your location using location.
You can even schedule a message.
Maybe you want to type a message tonight
and have it sent to the person in the morning.
You can hit schedule send
and then you can say,
hey, send this to them at 8 a.m. in the morning
and then it will send it in the morning.
So those are a few cool things to pay attention to.
Now also, if you tap on text message
and pay attention to the bottom left corner,
there's a little microphone.
This microphone is so cool.
By tapping that,
you can basically just say
what you want to be in the text message
and then it will type it out for you just like this.
You'll agree first.
What do you think of these cool cases?
Do you like the first one or the second one?
Tap the microphone when you're finished
and if you can see,
it just typed out everything I said.
It even added punctuation
and this message is ready for me to send.
So this is a really cool way to,
you know, if you have a lot you want to say
and you don't want to sit there
and type every single word,
just say it
and it will type it out for you
and save you so much time.
Now that's sending messages
and all the different things you can do with sending.
Notice you also have a shortcut at the top here
and this is for making calls.
So you might be texting that person
and you might just say,
you know what?
I'm just going to call this person instead
because this message is getting too long.
I just want to say what I want to say.
Tap on the phone button
and then it will initiate a call.
Now we're going to use our back button here
to back out of this message
and go to our main inbox
and now we've gone over sending messages
or responding to messages.
Now the next thing I want to go over
is how to write a new message.
Hey, I want to text, you know,
my other friend who I don't have
a text message chain with.
I'm going to tap on this button
and this is going to open up
a brand new message box
and then from here,
I can type in someone's phone number
or I can type in their name.
Remember, we just went over
how to basically save a phone number
into the phone.
So in that case,
you just type the person's name
and then it will bring up their number.
You can select it
and then you can begin
texting that new person.
I'm going to type in Jim Jones
and look,
his phone number came up,
his contact.
I'm going to tap on that.
It'll add it
and now I can begin
typing a new message
by tapping on the text message box.
So that's how easy it is
to start a new text message
with someone.
Now, if you want to create
a group message,
you would tap on this icon
next to the phone.
This is the group message icon
and this will allow you
to basically add new phone numbers
so that you can have multiple people
be in that chat.
One disclaimer,
be careful with this.
You want to be careful
with group text messages
because everyone doesn't love them.
You want to make sure
that people are OK
with being in them
before you create them.
So I'm going to say about that.
OK, here's the very last thing.
So I'm going to back
out of text messages
and I want to show you
what it looks like
when you send someone
a text message.
This is how you'll know
you have a new message pending.
This pop up just showed up
on the screen here
and here there's a little red one
right above the message icon.
This is telling me
that I have a brand new text message
that I need to check.
So I can basically tap here,
use my back button
to back out of that.
And here I can see
I have this new message
that just came through
and notice there's
a little blue number to the right.
That blue number is representing
the number of new messages
in that new text.
So this is telling me,
hey, I have a new message here.
I need to tap here
so I can read it
and then potentially respond to it.
Here as well,
I can see I have a new message
that, you know, I need to check.
So that's just one other tidbit
that I think is important to know.
So that is text messages
and I hope you guys found that helpful.
Try to be thorough for those
of you that are newer
to using smartphones
and hopefully that just helped
you kind of get a gauge
of what you need to do there.
If you haven't already done so,
please bump that like button down below.
Again, I appreciate the support a ton.
All right, let's now move into email.
How do I add an email account
to the phone?
And how do I check the emails
and just give me some basic info there?
So you're going to go to the Gmail app.
Swipe up.
Now in the upper left corner,
you should find your Google folder.
If you tap on the Google folder,
you should find your Gmail app right here.
Now, important thing to note
is that you might say to yourself,
well, I don't have a Gmail
or I have a Gmail,
but I also have a Yahoo
or I also have an AOL.
So if you want to add
more than one email account,
you simply would tap on the icon
in the upper right corner
and then go down to add another account.
And then this will give you the option
to then add your new email account.
Now here you'll select
the appropriate account type,
whether it's Google, Hotmail,
Outlook, Live, Yahoo,
Exchange, Office 365, etc.
Now, what if I don't see
my email type on the screen?
What do I do?
Well, you can go to other
and here you would type in
your email address and your password.
And this would help you to pair
that email with the phone.
There are some rare cases
where it's going to ask
for additional information
that you may not have.
So if that happens,
here's what you do.
You hit the home button
and you're going to go to the Play Store
and tap on the magnifying glass
at the bottom, type it twice.
This will bring your keyboard up,
take you right to search.
We'll then tap on the special characters icon
in the bottom left corner
and tap on the at symbol.
Then type in the back half
of your email address.
And this will do a search
for all the apps
that support that email type.
In this case, my Ymail
is actually a Yahoo.
So guess what?
I could download the Yahoo app
and I can use that app
to basically interact
with those emails.
So this is a little trick
that will help you guys
who have older email accounts.
And again, you don't see them on the list.
Follow these steps to be able
to sign into those accounts.
OK, let me go back
to the Gmail app here.
And I want to show you
just some basic things
you'll need to know
in terms of navigating
the Gmail app.
OK, so the first thing is
this is our inbox here.
This is where we see
all of our emails.
And if you want to read an email,
you simply select it.
We're going to tap on the email here
and then we can scroll
through and read it.
Now, guess what?
You might read it
and you might say,
cool, I read it.
I'm never going to open this again.
Tap on the trash can
and just delete it.
Be proactive about deleting emails
because they will stack up quickly
and they will eat up
or eat away at your free storage.
OK, what if you want to delete
a lot of emails at one time?
To do this, you need to tap
on the little bubble
or the circle to the left.
And this will allow you
to select multiple emails
that you want to delete.
Let's say we're going to delete
all these emails.
They're all checked.
I can now hit that trash can
and delete all those at one time,
which is super helpful.
Now, what if I want to
send an email to someone?
You tap on the compose button.
This will open up a blank email
and allow you to enter
all the information,
starting with who the email
is going to go to.
I want to put hello at gmail.com.
And then from here
for the subject,
I want to put it.
Hi, it's it's Joe.
And then tap where it says
compose email
and then type your message.
And then you'll have some options
at the upper right corner.
The paperclip here
will allow you to attach a file
to this email.
So maybe you want to send a PDF.
You would tap on the paperclip
or maybe you want to send a picture
tap on the paperclip
and then it will give you an option
to select the type of file
you want to send.
I'm going to hit photo
and then I could select
one of these photos here.
Hit done.
And guess what?
Now I have attached
that picture to the email.
And now I can tap on this button
to send off the message.
So that's how easy it is
to compose, attach, and send an email.
And that's those are the main things
you would need to know.
Now, the other thing is
when you tap on this little menu
in the upper left corner,
this is how you access
a lot of your other important details
with email.
Now, one important note with Gmail
is that it does pre-sort your emails.
So when you first open it,
it's taking you to your primary inbox.
And that's basically the emails
that Gmail has already sorted through.
And they've taken out all the spam
and the social media and the junk mail.
And they're trying to get you down
to the most important emails.
So from here,
you'll have a promotions folder
where these are just advertisements
from different companies.
You'll have a social folder.
This is for like your Facebook
and Instagram alerts.
And then you'll also have your updates.
And this is more tied to like,
you know, maybe a FedEx order
or something you bought online.
You'll see those updates there.
You'll also have down here
your spam folder.
Sometimes a company will send you an email
and it goes to spam.
They'll say, check your spam folder.
That's how you get to your spam folder.
And then you have your trash can,
which are all the emails you've deleted.
Your trash gets deleted every 30 days.
So it'll automatically delete emails
once it hits day 30.
And then you can also hit create label
and you can create your own folders as well.
So that's a brief rundown
of the different folders.
And that is email in a nutshell.
Okay, next up, let's go into using the camera
and understanding where our photos are saved
after we take them.
So I'm going to tap on this icon
in the bottom right corner.
This is the camera icon.
And let's talk about using the camera.
So here you'll have,
we're on the photo setting.
First of all, you'll see at the bottom here,
you'll see some titles.
Now we're on the photo setting
and tapping the white button
is how we take the picture.
Pretty self-explanatory.
Now, because the phone is flat on a table,
we can't see anything out of the lens.
If I tap this button, it'll flip the camera.
And now we can see out of the front lens.
And here I can simply tap a shutter button
to start taking pictures.
And if I want to see the picture I just took,
to the left of that shutter button
is my review.
If I tap here, I can see all the pictures I just took
and verify that they were good pictures.
If not, I need to retake them.
Let's hit our back button to go back.
If I tap on this little button here,
I can switch it to a wider shot.
So these toggles help you to switch
between the lenses from a wide shot to a closeup.
And there's a button right here.
You can tap as well to access
a bunch of other setting shortcuts.
Like if you want to turn on your flash,
you would tap on this icon here.
You can go to automatic flash or forced flash,
which means the flash is always on.
Or this first icon, which is the default,
which is flash off.
You can set a timer by tapping on this little clock.
Two seconds, five seconds, 10 seconds.
You have a ratio.
Maybe you want to change it to a one-to-one ratio.
You can change it that easy or full.
And the nine, six is the default,
which is the widescreen format.
So you've got some cool options that are built in there.
And then also at the bottom here,
let's say I want to switch from taking a picture
to taking a video.
I can swipe to the left
and it'll automatically jump from photo to video
or I can just tap on the title.
So here there's photo.
I'm in the photo section.
Now I'm on video and notice in video,
the circle changes.
It's no longer just a white circle.
Now it has a red dot in the center.
So if you see the red dot means
you're now ready to record video
and you can tap the red button.
It'll start recording.
And to the left, you'll have a shutter button
where you can still snap pictures
while you record video, which is super cool.
And when you're done, simply hit that stop button
to stop the recording.
In the upper right corner, you have a toggle switch
where you can switch between the different settings
for the video.
If you want to take a super high res video
or if you want to lower the quality
because you want to get more video,
then you can toggle here to regular HD, full HD, or 4K.
And here you can switch between the 30 frames or 60 frames.
Now, we've taken pictures.
We've taken videos.
Where do these get stored on the phone?
How do I find them to look through them later?
It's going to hit our home button
and look for this icon.
This is your gallery icon.
And this is basically where all your pictures
and videos are stored.
I can scroll through to see my different pictures and videos.
And here I have...
So if you're under pictures,
this sorts everything by the day you took the picture.
So it's kind of like a daily log of all your photos.
If I go to albums, it will sort my pictures by,
you know, how I have them organized.
So my camera, for example, is here.
A really cool trick is that when you look at your pictures,
maybe you have a cool picture like this.
You can hit the heart in the bottom left corner
and save it as a favorite.
And when I back out of this,
I can now go to my favorites folder
to see all the pictures that I've taken
and that I really liked
that are saved in a separate section called favorites.
So that's super cool.
You can create other folders by tapping on this little plus here.
This will make a new album
and then you can begin moving over photos from your camera
over to that album if you want to separate them
to make them easier to find later.
So this is in a nutshell
where all your photos are saved after you take them.
OK, and the very last thing I want to cover in the video
is how to secure your phone with a PIN or passcode.
And then also how to set up your fingerprint sensor.
So we're going to swipe down from the top of the screen.
We're going to tap on the settings wheel right here.
And then we're going to go up
to the security and privacy section.
You're going to swipe up and go to screen lock and biometrics.
And this is where you can select the different type of
the different options for unlocking the phone.
So one option is, hey, I want to unlock the phone with a PIN,
a six digit number.
You would do PIN or you can do a password.
Now, if you're using your phone for business,
then certain email accounts for business
will require you to have a password,
which is a combination of letters and numbers.
That's the most secure option there is to lock the phone.
And the third way is the pattern.
And the pattern is my favorite
because it's the easiest to remember.
It's not the most secure, but it's not the least secure either.
So if I tap on pattern,
I can make it something really simple like this and L.
And every time I want to unlock the phone,
I have to do this L in order to get in.
You do it twice, you hit confirm.
And now this is the new way to unlock the phone.
This is asking how you want your information to be shown
now that it has a passcode.
And I'm going to keep it on this option here,
this is a very clean option
because it just allows you to see your wallpaper,
your basically lock screen,
and it doesn't show notifications.
If you want to see notifications on your home screen,
or excuse me, on your lock screen,
you would tap on cards.
But I'm going to keep it on this one for now.
Let's hit done.
And now if I lock the phone and then I try to unlock it,
I'm going to take my finger and drag it up the screen.
It's now asking me to put in that pattern
before I can do that.
So put that in.
And now we're back in the phone.
Now, now that we have it secured with that pattern,
we can now go to screen lock and biometrics again.
And this time it will require the password
to get to that section.
And we can now select face recognition or fingerprints.
Now, guess what?
With face recognition, you take the phone,
you hold it up to your face.
It'll tell you to turn left and right and up and down,
and it will read your face
and make it easier for you to unlock the phone
without having to really press anything.
It'll look at your face, scan it,
and then it will unlock.
With the fingerprint,
it's going to use the in-display fingerprint
on the screen here.
And you'll take your finger
and press down on the screen a few times
for it to learn your fingerprint.
And then after that, it's programmed.
So it's pretty self-explanatory.
And one thing I would encourage you to do
when you set up your fingerprints,
always program a finger on each hand.
Imagine if you only program your right thumb
and you have oil on your right thumb,
and then now you can't unlock your phone.
You could easily take the phone,
put it in your left hand,
and then use your left thumb.
But you have to program both
or you're not going to be able to do that.
So this brings us to the end of our video.
I hope you guys did find this helpful.
If it was, hit that like button down below.
