I tested the new Vice Golf Zero Twist putters to see if "budget" zero torque putters can match the performance of a L.A.B. Golf Oz1i putter. I break down zero-torque technology, start line, distance control, sound, feel and everything you need to know about these new zero twist putters from Vice Golf.

So this putter costs anywhere from five to eight hundred dollars
and golfers swear by it zero torque technology.
It's allowing them to make more putts than ever vice just released
ones that cost more than half the price that they claim can do the
exact same thing.
So in today's video, we're going to test that we're going to
pit these new zero twist putters from vice head-to-head against
the lab and see if they can compete if they can hang or if this
is just DTC marketing that you shouldn't pay attention to.
Let me tell you one of the tests really surprised.
So why zero torque?
If we look at a traditional putter, we're going to see some toe
hang.
This blade has roughly 30% of toe hang.
My spider has about 15% of toe hang.
Some we see 60 some we see 90.
What is toe hang?
Well, toe hang is forcing the putter blade to open to close throughout
an arc that can be really challenging for a lot of golfers to repeat
especially as nerves get into play or faster slower greens there
becomes an element of skill required to get that putter face back to
square lab basically says they saw that when they created a lie angle
balance putter that is going to sit square stay square to that target
line throughout the entire stroke making it so much easier for golfers
to square the putter face at impact regardless of nerves regardless of
green conditions and you put it in the revealer.
It does all of that and it just stays square and it goes square and now
you're seeing every other OEM copy them.
Well, now Vice is saying they've done the same thing a half to a third
the price.
These are their zero twist putters.
They're calling it zero twist not zero torque because zero torque is
more of the scientific term twist is much more of the conversational
term.
Basically the putter face isn't twisting throughout the stroke or at
impact.
They've released the vgp03 which is their blade only $199 and they've
also released their mallet the vgp04 for $230 this thing like fully
dialed can be like six seven eight hundred dollars off the rack.
Even if you just get it stock.
It's like 500 bucks.
You get these stock for like more than half the price and you can
customize the colors.
You can't customize the lie angle.
You can't do the same type of dialing or fitting you can in this but
lab is saying the technology is there and they're making an effort to
make this technology accessible for more golfers because that price
point is just so much lower and so much more inviting and hey, if you
like the aesthetic you like the look of it all they actually have
released a new straight-up blade with the same milling and face as the
zero twist, but this thing has got some toe hang if you like that arc
stroke, they're not they're not overlooking you with this putter line
release the vgp03 it's a nice classic blade.
We're not testing that we're testing their zero twist ones against this
beauty.
Let's do the test.
Let's see if they balance the way that allowed balance so I don't have
a revealer but you can put these things on anything that balances them
and let's it rotate and see if that face comes back to where it started
at and how it does that if we look at labs, I mean they rotate and they
just go right back to square interestingly enough the vice putters
don't sit square right on the balance point, but they still rotate right
back to it and there's no twist in the shaft because I put this into
that balance and when you watch when I manipulate the face the whole
shaft is twisting the the balance point.
It's throughout the whole putter.
You're seeing that the shaft twist.
You're seeing the head twist.
Whereas these zero torque and zero twist putters that is not happening.
So that is encouraging that leads one to believe out on the golf course
these putter heads should go right back to where they started just like
this one did so let's go to the golf course and let's test them.
Let's put this through some rigorous testing to see if they can do what
this one does so test number one the dreaded gate test first foot do
these putts start online.
We're not concerned if these putts go in.
I just really want to see if out of 10 putts how many can start online
and go right through the gate.
So even with the one off the gate from the lab, I'd still consider that
a tie.
So on to test number two distance control.
So for the distance control test, I've got a 45 foot putt that I've paced
out here roughly and I have a tee there's two and a half feet short of
the hole and tee there's two and a half feet past the hole 10 putts.
How many of them can get inside that kind of comfort zone friendship
circle of roughly a two foot tap in for par because this is one of the
things that a lot of zero torque low torque putters seem to lack is feel
off the face when you get into the long range putts or if you're on
Really fast greens where you really need to have good distance control.
So let's see how these vice zero twist putters stack up against the
lab.
Totally miss hit that.
Oh my gosh.
Sit down.
I've gone in and basically the same given two of them hit.
Maybe it sneaks in.
So that's four three four.
But that that's the that's not good.
And that happened with the first one too.
I miss hit the crap out of that one.
Wow.
The lab was just a better grouping across the 10 both of the vice putters
you saw a fair amount two to three each maybe four each woefully short
and right but the last and final test is kind of those pressure putts if
we miss hit them.
So one thing that lab putters are so good at is these kind of short
nervy putts inside 7 feet where a lot of golfers can get nervy and the
hands can get active and we really like to manipulate the face.
So I'm going to hit six putts to at each team is roughly six ish feet,
but I'm going to go toe center heel because when you do line it up to
the toe it comes off the toe.
So I want to see how these things perform if we really miss hit them in
these nervy ranges because the lab putters do perform really well.
So let's see how vice can hang when it comes to the nervy putts that
are just totally miss hit that still came off solid that feels good.
That's a good start three for three.
Oh, that's short.
Yeah.
I knew I missed that.
Oh gosh.
Okay, not bad.
That's pretty solid.
Same as the second one with the
VG P03 ZT didn't I was going to get there go.
Not very different a lot more similarities than I anticipated in the
distance control.
Maybe there's just a bit more loft at impact on these because you saw where
they were missed.
It was just harder for me to get it to the hole and maybe online but with
more time and more practice any golfer would get more comfortable and
understand how it comes up the face what it does the feel is good.
The sound actually didn't like the sound on this one.
I thought I would prefer this to this because aesthetically I quite like
this but it felt more like kind of like an old-school ping answer putter
and that kind of tingy off the face not my favorite this thing actually
Sounded and felt really really solid very very similar to this play the
sound but this thing aesthetically not my favorite but performance wise feel
wise sound wise this thing hangs and if we think about the prices that's
impressed.
Yes, there's limitations.
You have one shaft to choose from you have one lie angle to choose from you
can customize the colors like vice is known for which is really a nice
touch, but you don't have the customization that you have with the
lab where you have four or five six shafts to choose from grips to choose
from all the lines to choose from weight to choose from all those
customizations with lab come with a price tag and that's what can make
that putter get into the eight nine hundred dollar range after tax you
lack the customization but as you've seen with the testing for this price
point you get that zero-torque technology you get access to it for an
incredible price that's hard to beat that's hard to argue it sure there's
more cash a there's more sex appeal with the lab but if you want to test
out zero-torque you can do it with these vice putters and you're not
breaking the bank because the last thing you want is to test it and spend
five six seven eight hundred dollars and not like it because it's not for
everyone not everyone needs zero-torque is it a direct competitor yes and
no I think this is a great entry point into the zero-torque world advice is
made but it's also going to push these OEMs to maybe rethink their pricing
because we've seen Wilson do it now we've seen that zero-torque is available
and accessible and it maybe doesn't have to carry the price tag that lab first
brought to it but other brands are now going to push the limits on pricing for
this technology which could be great because it could bring the pricing of
these down but vice is absolutely shaking things up with these putters
let me know in those comments below are you gonna be loyal to this are these
ones that maybe make you go hmm it's time to test them out because I'm not
breaking the bank testing them out or are you just a traditional blade user
and this thing for under 200 bucks tickles your fancy let me know in those
comments and we'll see in the next
