Well, after a long winter with a lot of snow and plowing, it's time for the
Springfield DPW crew to fix up those potholes around the city. 22 News
reporter Nick Antonakis went along with the crew this morning and joins us
live now in studio with a full breakdown of how a pothole is actually
fixed. Yeah, Kayleigh, it's actually a rinse and reprieve process. It's kind
of asked to be considering how many potholes there are to fill. Pedro
McGraw, the assistant deputy of operations for DPW Springfield, told me
on a good day, the crew can fill up to 50 potholes. They scoop asphalt from
what they call the hot box poured into craters that line the street after
digging out any debris that's already in them, and then they flatten it out
with a roller. What causes them problems, however, is a popular spring
weather out there being rain. When potholes fill up with water, it makes
it impossible to fill them with asphalt, which can delay the process
and filling every pothole in the city. McGraw says to be patient as they try
to make the roads right for warmer weather. It's time consuming. Just be
patient. You know, we're getting, we're getting them done. Um, and if you see
any files, you can call 311 and let us know the work the crew was tackling
this morning. We're on the endless amount of potholes that line Granada
Terrence in Springfield. Be sure to watch 22 news later this evening for a
full walk through that I got from the crew on exactly what goes into
repairing a pothole working for you. Nick Antonakis 22 News.
