The press conference was absolutely awesome, featuring @nfl @uflrenegades Head Coach Rick Neuheisel @coachneuheisel—nicknamed “Rick Freakin’ Neuheisel” by Coach Jon Gruden @barstoolgruden in a recent Dallas Renegades post. (More on this in this interview). The only twist was that Coach Neuheisel dropped some surprising breaking news.
Disclaimer: On the @alanalford_ Sports Talk Show, I have no say in head coach or personnel decisions.
Breaking News #1) Fan favorite and The Spring King, QB Luis Perez @perezluisqb, won’t be starting in Game 1. Big congrats to QB #16 Austin Reed @god.is.great.16, who has officially been named the Game 1 starter. This was personally asked and confirmed by yours truly. Coach Neuheisel mentioned that QB Luis Perez might play in Game 1. Coach Neuheisel acknowledged that Perez is understandably disappointed by the news but could still take the field. Check out the interview for the final question.
Breaking News #2: While 50 players made it through the final cuts—congrats to them—seven players, due to mandate restrictions, won’t be suiting up for Game 1. Coach Neuheisel disagrees with this procedure. See Interview Question 1 & 2.
Great news! Coach Neuheisel loves the nickname Coach Jon Gruden gave him and is pumped for Game 1. Get excited! Ty Myers @tywmyers will be the halftime star, and tickets are 33% off right now at theufl.com. Grab your tickets now!

Thanks to Coach Neuheisel for the interview and to the Dallas Renegades and the UFL for giving the Alan Alford Sports Talk Show such an amazing opportunity!
On behalf of the Alan Alford Sports Talk Show, I tremendously appreciate you all!
Hey, there's the friendly face. How are you?
I'm doing great. How are you, Coach?
I'm doing fine.
That's good. So, is it a sigh of relief now that you've got your team, you know, you don't have to deal with any more cuts, and now you're smooth sailing?
Yes, just when you think it's smooth sailing, now I've got to tell seven guys that they're not playing in the game because we only get to have 43 actives.
I mean, it's one bad news opportunity after another because everybody's dying to play.
This is what they came here to do, to show their wares, so to speak, and to get the thrill of competition.
So, yeah, and now I'm going to fight scratch and claw for the future of spring ball that that's never an issue anymore.
I understand that not everybody can make the team, but I think everybody should be eligible to play.
You know, the NFL has a competitive balance thing, but the NFL is the NFL.
I think this league is an opportunity to get game film so that you can show those general managers in the NFL what you've got
and hopefully impress them enough to get an invite, and that's what everybody's here for.
It's difficult to do that if you're not in uniform.
So, in a sense, you're saying they should open it up to 50 guys being eligible to play?
Whatever we need to do. I understand money is not endless.
Whatever we need to do to move the salaries down so that everybody makes the same and everybody can play, I would vote for wholeheartedly.
And, you know, good news, John Gruden said some really, really great things about you.
You know, he's complimenting things about your coaching.
Talk about, you know, you're getting those kind of words from him.
I just like Rick freaking Neuheisel. I like that deal. I want to trademark that.
You know, I met John years ago, and he is exactly, in real life, who he comes off and personifies in terms of that enthusiasm and that beach kid.
And, yeah, man, he's a classy guy. I've always enjoyed Coach Gruden.
And, you know, we've got the home opener. Is it nervous coming up for you this week that everybody's going to see the product?
Yeah, and obviously that's the test, right?
You study and then they give you a number two pencil and they say, do your best, right?
So that's what we're going to do.
But Kevin Sumlin, who's a very, very wily and great coach, you know, he's doing the exact same.
I expect it to be one of those games that goes right down to the end and hopefully a lot of fun for people who watch it on TV.
And hopefully for those who come to Frisco. And by the way, let's get everybody out of Frisco.
I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
And finally, have you decided on who you're going to have be the starter at quarterback?
Yes. Yeah. We're going to start with Austin Reed.
He's he's earned the job. Luis has been fantastic, as you would expect.
I know what I have in Luis. I want to see what I have in Austin.
And I would expect that both will play.
And I think it will be that way all season long because they're both such quality people.
And this is an opportunity league. But I'm anxious to watch 16 go.
I appreciate you. Best wishes on this weekend and see how it goes.
I'll be watching, my friend. Thank you. I hope to see you there.
Yes. No problem. Take care. Take care now.
