Thank you so much for watching my sisters living room makeover. I had so much fun planning out the decor and DIY projects, thrifting and decorating her home. I'm so happy with how a few simple changes in layout and decor made such a huge difference in her home. I tried my best to incorporate more color into the design and am really happy with how it all came together. We were also working with a small budget and had so much fun putting it all together. Thanks for all the love and for watching.
Welcome back to my channel. If you're new here, I'm Emily. I'm a mom who loves home
decor, thrifting, and a good DIY project. We have a living room makeover. Makeover
videos are always my favorite and today we are making over my sister's living
room. This has been such a fun project to work on and she doesn't live by me so it
was like long distance. We had a trip planned and we made this living room
makeover happen and oh I can't wait to get into all the details. We're gonna
jump right on into things and talk about this before. So my sister has had her
living room a few different ways. My sister's living room is a little tricky
because it kind of has like a walkway hallway at the back of the living room.
There's like this walkway so for a lot of years she actually just didn't
necessarily make it a walkway. She had her couch and the rug, a bigger rug.
Recently she just got this beautiful old piano off of Facebook Marketplace and
she put it on this back wall which actually created this perfect
opportunity to finally kind of create this walkway. The other big change that
she was wanting to make is that they converted kind of this upstairs landing
living room area into like a family room with a TV. So she has this whole other
space now with a TV and thought this downstairs area could really be more of
like a formal sitting room. As for my sister's style, we're obviously different
people and we have different styles but there's similarities. So my sister also
gravitate towards light and bright spaces. Her thing that the words she used
that she's going for is like she would love a peaceful space but she wants it
to feel a little fun because she likes colors. She specifically likes blues. Now
that you guys have seen her before we're gonna jump back to her house and we are
going to start with the couches. Here are the couches. We are so excited. The living
room is empty and we're gonna open everything up and get the couches in
place first. Let's do a little time-lapse and get these unboxed. I am so
excited to share with you Lindsey Holmes Rubik the cloud modular couch. Me and my
sister chatted about lots of options but we ended up going with this couch and we
loved so many different things. One is that it's completely modular. We actually
chose to get two two-seater sofas but because this is modular she could
actually transform this into like a three-seater L sectional if she wants.
She's going to have so many options simply by having these two sofas now
because of how Lindsey Holmes has made these modular couches so easy to
basically transform into a completely different shaped couch. Also one of the
great things is that this is such a family and pet friendly couch. My sister
has four kids and a dog and this is exactly what they needed. They needed to
be able to remove the covers, throw them in the wash, something that was so
comfortable for the whole family to just lounge on. Couches have passed the family
comfort test and everybody is just loving them. I will of course have
everything linked down below for Lindsey Holmes. Thanks again Lindsey Holmes for
partnering with me on today's video. The beautiful Lindsey Holmes couches are in
place and next thing we're gonna do we are kind of jumping back and forth
between time because I've filmed stuff before we went there and after we went
there. So let's go thrifting and see if I can find what I'm looking for.
Here is the very large canvas that I thrifted that we are going to DIY. I'm
going to step out of my comfort zone and make some sort of semi-colorful art
piece. This wasn't some expensive canvas, original, just a reprint. So to start I'm
gonna spray paint this because sometimes it's hard to paint over these
because these canvases are kind of like weird plasticky material that the paint
doesn't go on very nicely. So we need to spray paint it. I am just gonna do a
time-lapse because this could take a while.
Here it is drying outside. Does it look like somebody who doesn't know how to
paint painted it? Yeah. But you know I think it's gonna serve its purpose so I
guess it could be worse. The painting's done. Let me show you guys another little
thrift flip that I'm doing. I thrifted this basket of florals for like $3.99. I'm
gonna keep this basket. I might like put it on my kids bike. It's not kind of
funny but it looks kind of like a cute little bike basket so we might
repurpose the basket. But I'm gonna remove all of the florals because some
of them look really cute and this is a vase that I thrifted a couple months back.
You guys have seen it in a different thrift video and I haven't been using it
but I thought this actually would look so cute on a coffee table. Now I do have
a couple couple other options like at my own house just laying around and I
feel like my sister might have some too if this doesn't work because the top is
kind of like narrow so I'm like I don't know how the florals will look inside
here but I thought we could make a little like coffee table arrangement. I
just want to pick out like the best ones. I like these ones. I feel like these look
a little bit more real. I realize that all kind of looks a little fake but I
mean these ones are really pretty. This is one of the reasons I got it. Like I
feel like those are really nice. Maybe you guys disagree but I think those are
really pretty and like the little daisies. Here is the little thrifted
frame. I'm thinking of using something up on top of the fireplace mantel. I want to
have this mirror and then maybe a little stacked frame. I got this print and I'm
realizing it's not necessarily the right size so I might try putting it on top of
the mat to see how that looks. We are jumping back to my sister's house and we
are going to hang up this beautiful piece of art. I mean I feel like it's
hard when you make something yourself because does anybody else feel like the
most critical of their own stuff so I'm like oh you know I don't think the art
is terrible but it's okay. I'm going to put the rug in. I really really love this rug.
Me and my sister kind of joint picked it out together so we're very excited to
get this unrolled. It's like the perfect greeny blue neutral. It's like a neutral
that has some color which is what we're going for. I also want to show you guys a
little haul of a couple pieces that I picked up. Let's get the rug in and then
I'll show you guys what I got. Okay just getting this rug opened up. It is so
pretty. I wish you guys could kind of see in person. Light's a little bit tricky
right now because it's a gloomy day. Hiro you're gonna have to move.
It's looking so good. This is one of those rugs that depending on where you
stand looks like a different rug so you can really see the pattern nicely from
this angle but then when you kind of move to this side let's see if it will
show it. Yes it looks like a totally different rug. It's like a chameleon. So this
gives you guys like a really nice view of all the colors and tones. So so pretty.
So I want to show you guys we do need to get a coffee table in here but I want to
show you guys the things that I brought. So you guys saw this already. I also
picked up these. I don't know what these types of fake flowers are called. Someone
comment down below and let me know. Of course I'm sticking with our blue theme
and I know these were just such a peaceful blue so we had to get these and
also brought and got these little like three tiered chicken. These little three
tiered candle holders and I brought some kind of these pinky beige candles
and I thought that that would be really cute on the fireplace too. So you guys
have already seen this artwork that we're gonna we're gonna see how it looks
layered. There's also potential for this to go by the piano over here but this
one and then I brought this from home to see if we like this instead. This is an
old art that I did. It's very neutral. It's a little bit more neutral probably
than my sister would go for but since I had it laying around I just grabbed it
to kind of play around with. I grabbed this little neutral throw that I had at
home and bought some throw pillows. I want to show you this one. I thought this
was so pretty. I feel like I don't know if you can tell but it's like two tones
so this part's more blue this part's a little bit more green and I thought that
would be so nice with like our colors. I also picked up this big one which is
looking very beige on camera but it is like a green tone. I don't know why it's
looking very beige but I promise it's like greeny colors. The sun's coming out
and then I brought this from home just another like fun little pillow. So my
sister has a couple pillows too. I convinced my sister to get a round
coffee table because I felt like the flow would be perfect with round. Okay
the coffee table's in. Looks so good but we made another little change. We ended
up pushing the couch off the wall. So there actually is a little walkway back
here and could have like a console table back here and that could be really cool.
So that will probably be to be honest sorted out at a later date. We're
probably just gonna leave a little walkway here but the reason is is
because with this being more of like a formal sitting room now we really want
to just create that symmetry and we've got the window and the window and the
middle fireplace and when this is pushed up against the wall it just throws the
whole like the rug everything off. So now this is like perfectly balanced looks
so good everything's like symmetrical and we're loving that it's symmetrical.
So we're gonna go with this. We're gonna test out some art. I'm not loving it so we're gonna
pause on the frame and we're gonna put up the flowers. I got my pretty. Are they
dahlias? No I don't know. We're still just guessing. Here's my face options I
stole from my sister's house. I think we might go with the white. I
actually think the white is gonna look better especially because they're faux
and I feel like they'll look a little better being hidden inside here.
Look at my sister's gorgeous fiddle leaf. It is almost touching the ceiling. We of
course are gonna feature this in the corner. Unlike me my sister does have a
green thumb. Right there's so good. Living in the corner. I want to focus a little
bit on this piano area. So my sister had actually a really big pretty canvas but
I kind of felt like it was competing with the canvas that I just put over
there. I didn't realize she had one here so she's nice enough to let me take it
down and I took this from a different area of her house. So fun and blue and I
thought this would be really cute and kind of then have a nice like vertical
photo to draw your eyes up. I thought this could be an opportunity to do our
layered moment with this fun print and just add in like really fun color cuz
I'm trying. Okay I also wanted to show you guys this vase. I am NOT liking it
with the flowers that I brought. So my sister she pulled out all of her vases
and popped for me and we're gonna swap. So she has some fun lavender. We're gonna
swap the lavender for this one and then we'll switch around to the coffee table
and I'll show you what we're doing over there. Decided to actually we're gonna
like layer the bees. It's kind of a fun play on like these purpley tones right
here and just add a little like layered moment to this plant. I think that's cute. My sister already has this beautiful basket and had this great green fuzzy
throw which is right on our color scheme so I'm gonna put that in the corner here
I wanted to mention that me and my sister went back and forth about
curtains because she has these two windows. Oftentimes curtains can really
like soften up a space if it's feeling a little like stark. I was actually leaning
towards curtains but it's a little tricky because her windows are so close
to her fireplace that yeah it was like a little curious how we would get them to
like hang nicely because they're just so close. So we opted for this makeover
to just keep the curtains out. In the future she probably would love to get
like fabric shades. That would probably be the best solution for her space. She
can always add curtains. She can always add some side tables. That was one thing
at the end that I was like we could have done with a side table and a lamp. So you
know there's little pieces sometimes that can always be added and that's kind
of the fun journey of having a home that you can add pieces and you find
them and you fall in love with them and it doesn't mean that something needs to
be 100% complete at that exact time if that makes sense because home takes time.
Let's do some coffee table styling. It's actually kind of fun to just like shop
my sister's home and see what she's got to decorate with. So we found some fun
books and they are this like navy blue. So we're gonna add some books, a cute
little candle which is actually the perfect color. We're adding our florals
with this and I feel like it just goes so much better. Let's add in a couple
finishing touches.
We have come a long way with this space. Planning a makeover, long distance and
then seeing it all come together was such a fun journey and I'm thrilled to
share this reveal with you guys. Do you remember how it looked before?
And here it is now.
Thank you so much Lindsay Holm for partnering with me on today's video.
These couches really just set up this whole makeover to transform the space in
such a beautiful way. Go check them out. I'll have everything linked down in the
description box below. I am so thrilled with how the space turned out and
actually more importantly my sister, my brother-in-law, all of her kids love the
space so much. They all just kept telling me how much they love it and that it
felt so good. It felt so peaceful and just like felt like a breath of fresh
air. I hope that you guys enjoyed this video and enjoyed seeing this
transformation. If you did feel free to give it a thumbs up. As always you can
subscribe. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this makeover down in the comments
below. Thank you guys so much for watching. For more of my everyday life
