Welcome back to my channel friends.
I can't believe I'm sharing with you the first official video in our new home.
I'm so excited and I have so much to share.
So yesterday marked one month of us being in our new home.
And over this past month of unpacking, getting settled, and decorating, I filmed little glimpses
of the process along the way.
So that's what I'm going to share with you in today's video.
I really hope that you enjoy seeing what we've done so far and unpacking and decorating along
with me today.
This is what we woke up to on our very first morning.
I remember I got up, walked straight into the living room and just stood there in disbelief
that this was our view.
It rained on and off the whole day before when we were moving in and we did not even
know that it was supposed to snow.
So it was a big surprise to wake up to.
I ran and grabbed my camera and set up my tripod so that I could capture this.
I love the snow so much and it just felt magical.
So I wanted to soak up our first morning here, watch the snow fall, and capture some footage
of our first morning.
Okay, we are back inside now and we're going to get some breakfast started and get to work
on getting a few more areas set up.
The night before this, once we had everything moved in, we really wanted to go ahead and
get a few of the main spaces set up.
That way we could wake up to a little bit of normalcy and be able to function a little
bit better the next day.
We were so tired, but my husband and I both were like, we cannot rest until at least the
kitchen and our bedroom were set up for the most part.
And I'm also so thankful for our family's help.
My sister and my brother-in-law stayed and helped us set up so many of the rooms that
first night and it was so much fun.
We were just all running on excitement and so excited to see the furniture set up.
It's just a night I'll never forget.
Now we're not going to be decorating the living room in today's video.
We're going to focus on decorating the kitchen and dining room, but I wanted to share a few
looks at how the furniture looks set up in here.
There's so much that I want to do to decorate in here and it's going to take time.
I really want to be intentional about everything that I add to this home and take my time with
every space, but I will share with you as I work on things over time in these areas
in future videos.
So stay tuned for that.
This is what the other side of the living room looked like that first morning.
So I was very excited to get to work on this, start organizing and putting things where
I wanted them to go.
So while I started on this, my husband made us some delicious homemade sausage gravy and
then I made biscuits to go with it and it was such a yummy first breakfast in our home.
After breakfast, we headed back into the living room to continue sorting and going through
all of those boxes and while we were unpacking, we kept noticing all of the beautiful critters
outside.
The squirrels and the birds.
The squirrels were playing in the snow and it was the most beautiful thing ever.
So I had to capture it on camera.
This is now one of our favorite things to do in the mornings is look out the windows
and just watch the squirrels play.
We have so many squirrels in the backyard and it's just so, so pretty to watch them.
And now let's get started.
I wanted to insert these clips to remind you what the space looked like empty.
If you haven't seen my empty home tour, I can link that below.
It was my previous video that I posted and this is a reminder of what the chandelier
and the wall sconces looked like before.
So two days after we moved in and we got settled, a friend came over and helped us take down
the old chandelier and put up our vintage one and I'm so, so thankful for his help.
It looks so beautiful in here and then a few days later, my husband hung up these sconces.
I got these.
I found them for $7 for the pair.
I still cannot believe it and they match our chandelier so well.
This just brought this dining room together so much.
It just feels like this made it all come together.
Here is what the dining room looks like all set up with our furniture and our new light
fixtures.
I also added our curtains that I had in the living room at the other house onto these
windows and I think that it just really complements the space so well.
I can't believe how much our furniture looks like it was meant to go in this house.
It just feels like it looks like it was always meant to go here.
This is what the hutch looks like.
I went ahead and put my baskets on top just like I had it at the other house and again,
I love how like the wood tones match the ceiling.
It just all goes together so well.
I also stacked some baskets beside the hutch.
I'm not sure if I'll leave those there.
I just have those there for now and I think it looks really pretty just to have them stacked.
This is what our kitchen table looked like before we redid it.
I found it secondhand.
I loved the style of it.
It was a beautiful antique wooden table but I didn't love the color stain on it so my
husband and I redid it.
I knew that it had so much potential.
We stripped it down and it is truly my dream kitchen table.
So, I just cannot believe how good it looks in this space.
It makes my heart so happy and now instead of it being just in a bedroom tucked away,
we get to use it and enjoy it every single day.
I'm just so, so thankful.
Okay, now I'm going to get started with unpacking the dining room.
I already had the rest of the house unpacked at this point.
We had just been saving all of the boxes full of decor, for example, like my ironstone creamers
that I was so excited to unbox and my pitchers and all of my little dishes and decorative
pieces.
We put those in the corner of the dining room and I wanted that to be the very last thing
that I unpacked because right after I unpacked them, I wanted to go ahead and start decorating
with all these pieces.
So, I just was unboxing them, setting them to the side and getting everything out, going
through it, seeing what all I had and then after that, we will get started with decorating.
This is now a few days later after I had unpacked and sorted all of my dishes and decor.
I laid everything out that I wanted to use so that I would have an idea of what I had
to work with.
It was so fun to get all this out and see it in our home for the very first time.
This is the set of dishes I wanted to use on our dining table.
If you've been watching me for a few years, you probably remember when I found these.
They are English Village dishes and I'm so excited to use them on our table.
The first area I wanted to decorate is this table.
This is my sewing machine table that I had in the living room at the other house.
I added a mirror above it here on this wall.
I added a lamp to it, my dried hydrangeas and this whole area feels so cozy with this
furniture piece here.
It just really brought this whole space together and I love how it turned out.
Now I'm starting on the hutch.
I have these dishes that I shared in a video a couple months ago.
I found them at an estate sale.
They have bows all the way around the edges.
It's one of the prettiest patterns I've ever seen so I wanted those to be the main focal
point of the hutch and then I went in with all of my teapots, pitchers, creamers and
other white dishes, some of my candlesticks and things like that to fill in in all the
other areas.
And then on the table, again I'm going to add my English Village dishes and just all
pieces that I already had that I've already collected.
I really wanted to use every single piece of decor, every dish and every item that I
already had in my collection first before I went out to look for anything new or went
thrifting or anything like that for the house.
That way I for sure knew that I was using what I had already in our new home and I'm
so, so thankful that I did that.
If you've ever watched any of my previous videos from our other house, I talked about
it often, how much I dreamed of having a dining room one day.
We had this table, like I mentioned earlier, in a spare bedroom at the other house but
it still just wasn't very practical to sit at and eat at every day.
So being able to use this table and just have it be so functional in this space feels life
changing and I'm just watching this back like, oh my goodness, I love it so much and I'm
just so, so thankful every single day that we get to sit at this table and eat in this
space.
A few days after I decorated my hutch, I decided to get out some of my spring tulips and greenery
because I thought it would make a big difference to add a pop of green into the hutch and we're
almost to March so I feel like it's okay to bring out a few touches of spring.
Again, I think it just made the biggest difference to add that pretty touch of green with the tulips.
Okay, now I'm going to get started on decorating our kitchen.
I wanted to share the simple curtain that I hung up here on our kitchen window.
I had this fabric left over from a project I made a few years ago.
I made an apron with this material and I thought it was just the perfect color and size little
curtain for this window so I folded over this piece of fabric and hung it up with some
ring clips and a tension rod and I like how it looks.
I think it's just, again, such a simple and easy little curtain for above the kitchen
window.
That little box that you see back there is actually our garden box.
We bought that last spring and had it filled with zinnias at the other house last spring
and summer and when we brought it over, my husband set it right in front of the kitchen
window and it was just the sweetest thing ever because I would have not even thought
to put it in that spot, but he was like, now this spring and summer when we plant flowers,
you can look right out the kitchen window and have a perfect view of them, which again
was just so, so sweet.
I cannot wait for spring and for all the flowers, but now we're going to go back in time a little bit.
This was a few days after we moved in.
I was organizing the kitchen cabinets and drawers, putting away our dish towels and
our cups and mugs and I wanted to document a little bit of the process to add into this
video.
The day after this, we both came down with the flu and it was the worst sickness we've
ever had.
It has been three, two or three weeks now since we very first got sick and I still feel
like I'm just now getting back to normal.
It was so bad.
So that is why this video is up a little bit later than I wanted it to be.
I thought I was going to be sharing this like at the beginning of February, but we were
so sick.
So I'm just now getting to finish decorating and sharing this with you.
So if you are currently dealing with a sickness this winter, I just want to say a prayer that
you get better so, so soon.
Again, it was just the worst thing we've ever had.
It was horrible and I'm so thankful to be feeling better and back to normal.
So this is now fast forward.
This is after I was feeling much better.
I finally got to start working on decorating the kitchen because I had everything put away
and organized, but I really just after getting sick was not feeling inspired with any ideas
or just even able to decorate the kitchen.
So I could not wait to get out my canisters and this picture here.
I thrifted this a few years ago and it is still one of my most favorite thrift finds.
It is this beautiful picture of a cottage with this girl with her flowers and her animals.
It is just so, so precious to me and I wanted that to be like the focal point of our kitchen.
It was going to pull in those pastel colors and just really feel like if it's the cozy cottage
feel of the kitchen so well.
And then of course, I'm adding more tulips in a little ironstone creamer.
For Valentine's Day, my husband got me this beautiful indoor hydrangea and this just cheered
me up so much after so many dark, rainy, dreary winter days and being sick.
It just like brought me back to life and I was so excited to get this planted.
I planted it in a little white pot that I already had and I knew that I wanted it to go somewhere
in the kitchen because it just brightens up this whole space.
I'm going to add a glass dish under this.
I got this at Goodwill a couple months ago with this in mind that I knew I wanted to use this
sometime this spring to go under one of my potted plants and it ended up being the perfect size
to go under this pot.
So I'm going to put this over here on the tray next to the coffee maker.
I thought it would really brighten up this area.
I'm going to plug in our Google Home and then get this whole coffee bar area put together.
Now for the kitchen island.
I have been so excited to decorate our island and I'm going to add this picture on here.
This is a pattern of a little Dutch girl in this beautiful blue color.
I love this picture.
I got it not long ago back last year.
I thrifted it and I shared it in a video and then I'm going to add some more of these tulips.
I just love these.
I use them everywhere all throughout the house for spring.
I can link them below.
I got them on Amazon a few years ago and I think they just brighten up every space.
And then this is a cake plate that I thrifted as well last year and I shared it in a video
and it is still one of my most favorite thrift finds.
It has a little scalloped edge.
It has a floral pattern.
It's just so so pretty.
So I want to put this here on the island beside this picture of tulips.
I didn't end up styling anything on the cake plate because I'm just going to have this out for if I bake cookies
or whenever we have treats that I make in the kitchen.
I can have that out and ready to go to put them on and that is how the kitchen came together.
Okay, now this is a few days after that.
I actually finally ended up being in the mood to go thrifting.
I ended up filming a whole video on it.
So that will be either my next video or the video after that.
But when I was thrifting, I found these tiny little olive wood bowls.
They're originally from Target, but they were marked $1 each and I got them for the kitchen.
I didn't really know exactly what I would do with them at first.
And then, well, I know I would use them for like charcuterie and to put little nuts and fruit in on a tray whenever we have those.
But I didn't know that I would really decorate with them until I got them in our kitchen.
And I was like, these match with all of the wood tones in here so well.
And how perfect do they fit on this marble Lazy Susan tray?
So that just worked out so well.
And you will see those in that thrifting video that I share coming up soon.
I also added this beautiful vintage tea towel to the oven.
And then on that same day, I also decided to get out my spring mugs.
I had not got them out yet.
And I was like, okay, I think I'm ready to get out my spring mugs and get those washed and put up in the cabinet.
At our previous house, we didn't have enough cabinet space to have out all of our cups and mugs that we have at once.
So I would just rotate them out for each season.
And now I will have enough room to have out all of my mugs at once because we have so much extra cabinet space.
And I'm just beyond, beyond thankful for that.
And I'm so happy to be able to enjoy all my little thrifted mugs and glasses up in my cabinet at one time.
I also wanted to share with you really quick where I put our green hutch.
I put it here in the kitchen.
And I decided to put all of my cookbooks, canning books, and a lot of my gardening books on this hutch.
It's the perfect place not only to display them, but also to have it where they're easy to grab whenever I want to look through them.
I really hope that you enjoyed decorating along with me and doing a little bit of unpacking and just seeing how our home is coming together.
We have just been enjoying this home so much over the last few weeks.
It still feels unreal, but it also just feels like we're so meant to be here.
I also wanted to really quick answer a few questions that I got on my empty home tour video.
A few of you asked if we wanted to paint the kitchen, paint the island especially.
I got the majority of comments suggesting to paint the island and then also possibly the cabinets.
And I wanted to just address that.
Right now we really just want to live with our home as it is.
We just love it honestly exactly how it is and I don't want to go and change anything.
Maybe one day I'll change my mind and later on down the road decide to do little projects.
But for now, I just really love the cozy warmth that it has.
It has so much charm and I don't want to take that away by painting everything.
And covering up any of the wood on the island or the cabinets because I feel like it just has that cozy cottage charm as it is.
So I just wanted to mention that and answer all of those questions of those of you wondering if we had plans to paint the cabinets or the island.
Thank you so much for spending time with me on my channel today.
Stay tuned for future videos as we continue to decorate our new home.
I'm going to share decorating the living room, our bedroom, and how we bring the rest of the spaces together.
This was such a fun video to create.
It's one of my most favorite videos I've ever done.
Getting to share decorating in our home for the very first time.
I will always remember this moment.
So thank you for letting me share it with you.
It is definitely a very vulnerable feeling to share this and open up our home.
When you share something that means so, so much to your heart, it just does feel vulnerable to open it up.
But thank you for being so, so supportive and for coming along as we make this house a home.
It just truly means so much to me.
I hope that you all have a wonderful rest of your day.
Again, just thank you, thank you.
And I will see you in my very next video.
