We're here for the fastest 4D challenge.
I have Team TaylorMade extraordinaire stood next to me
and a fitter joining me as well.
This challenge, this year,
is a little different to previous years,
so we're gonna need a referee.
I've already selected the Grand Slam champ.
Mr. Rory McIlroy is gonna keep everybody honest
through this challenge.
Colin Morikawa is leaning on a bunch of drivers there.
You're gonna grab that driver
and lay down the base mark shot.
So we're gonna be looking at club speed, ball speed,
seeing that everyone is kinda in their window.
That number becomes our baseline number
for the whole challenge, okay?
At that point, you then have an option to make one change.
So you can phone a fitter, myself or Adrian.
You'll then hit another ball.
The difference between the second ball
and the first ball is your number.
The two with the smallest differential
are gonna be eliminated in round one.
As round two comes,
you can either make two changes,
or again, Scotty, you can phone your fitter.
Third round, obviously, is gonna be three changes.
All right, with that, Rory can kick us off.
Okay.
Explain the club that you have,
tell us the spec, and then give it a rip.
Okay, what I have.
I have a QI 4D, 10 1⁄2 head in standard setting,
and a 50-gram regular shaft.
Brilliant. Perfect for me.
Fantastic for you.
You don't need to call me to know that's wrong.
Okay.
What ball have you gone with?
My ball, TP5.
Okay.
Have you ever seen Rory hit a driver
that doesn't look right for him, though?
Like, he just always hits, like, a good shot,
no matter what it is.
Doesn't happen.
Come on.
It's a little high.
Didn't see it.
I didn't see it.
Didn't see it.
All right, I mean, I went after it.
Yeah, club speed, you said 123,
so, I mean, that passes, doesn't it?
Yeah.
And there's your carry number that we've got a list.
Where's his spin?
I feel like that's not maximized.
No, it's definitely not optimized.
Absolutely not.
It's still in the air.
Oh, like, 4,000 spin.
There you go.
Okay.
So, 288.6.
That may be why we didn't see it.
Remember that as your base number.
Tommy, next up.
All right.
And tell us what spec you got there, mate.
Okay, I've got the QI 4D Max,
12-degree head, standard loft.
What shaft have I got?
6D stiff.
I mean, that's a peach.
That's actually,
you might need to change that.
Looks a bit lofted.
Swing, Tommy.
128?
Yep, look at you.
You got 128.
Okay, 118.
Are we accepting that club speed, Rory?
Yeah, 118.4.
Yeah, we're accepting it.
Absolutely, yeah.
Mate, there's room in there, 253.6.
Okay, what do you got?
I have a 12-degree
core head, 4D, QI 4D,
50 stiff.
You don't want too good of one here, Cole.
Just a smoothie.
110.
That was sharp.
Yeah, that was a good shot.
Does that pass?
Okay, that passes.
Thank you.
118.
Swing speed?
Yeah.
Swinging it really fast.
Yeah.
276.2.
That's how far I carry it normally.
Yeah, that was good.
What was the spin?
Put that in the bag.
3,700.
All right.
What do you got, Brooke?
I have
core head, 12-degree,
50A.
I don't even know what that stands for.
A-flex, senior flex.
Oh, okay.
Sharp.
Yeah.
Power.
Feels, uh.
Yeah.
236, yeah?
Good shot.
Thanks.
Yeah.
Okay, 236, the ref passed you.
We're good.
Scotty, you're next up.
What you got, mate?
QI 4D max,
10 and a half,
50R.
Okay.
50R.
I'm expecting at least 120 club head speed.
We'll hope we get to 110.
It's not a pass.
You could be beating a few bowls here
if you throw a 110.
I might be here a while.
It's good to be a range session.
Surprise, surprise, it's true.
I healed it a little bit.
120 club speed?
This thing's juicy.
275 carry.
I'm leading guy.
Oh no, right hand 288.
Is that passing?
Yeah, absolutely.
120?
Charlie, you're up.
QI 4D max, 12 degree and 50R.
Okay.
All right.
Where did that go?
Went a little right.
That head looked massive.
224.6.
Beautiful.
I have the LS head.
QI 4D LS head
in a nine degree.
And then I also have a 60X.
Oh, that's what I need.
Yay.
I'd say tee this one up a little higher.
Yeah, okay.
But I don't want to like hit a great one on my first one.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
You're not trying to cheat here.
Yay, yay, yay, yay, yay, yay, yay.
At least it was straight in my net.
Good for the British open.
Oh, nice.
249.7.
Okay, okay.
Okay.
So everyone's got their base score.
What we're going to do now,
because Nelly just came in and said at the end there
that she was going to hit an easy one.
So we're going to change this up,
make it a bit more interesting.
We're going to get straight into losing four players,
two changes.
Okay?
Because I felt like there was a bit of cheating
going on at the end.
I'm going to hit this one.
I tried to hit that.
I'm just saying, we're changing the rules.
249 is what I usually...
What's your club speed usually?
That was 108.
That was a pretty good...
It's definitely not 108.
Can we just go change clubs?
So yeah, you can, but you can make two changes.
Okay.
Are you itching to get going?
You go first if you want, you're itching.
No, I just...
All right, Rory's first up then.
So two changes.
Why can't we all just go change it now?
Go for it.
Well done, Tommy.
All right, Adrian.
So everyone can make two changes.
Adrian, you got two changes.
I'll change it for Scotty.
So we're going to bring in our shaft expert here.
Matt is with us.
Can you explain the differences
between the blue, the red, and the white?
Because I see Colin is getting a little lost over there.
Yeah, absolutely.
So we've created three different REACTS profiles this year.
The red shafts are going to be soft in the tip section.
The blue shafts are going to be a mid-tip.
White shafts are going to be stiffer in the tip section.
I'm going to get another shaft training.
Okay.
Shaft change coming up for Scotty.
I'm going to get a lighter.
I'm going 50.
I'm going max, max carry.
You were going,
so you were playing Ventus Blue before, right?
In my current...
The blue is softer than the white.
The blue is softer than the white, yeah.
Blue is like middle of the road.
I would have a softer tip, so I would change the...
Okay.
See, I didn't ask...
Did I ask a question?
I don't think so.
I told you what I was going to do.
You just needed to say it out loud.
Yeah, exactly.
I lowered the loft and I got a 50 stiff.
Good, Tommy.
You happy?
Oh, yeah.
I put it all the way to lower.
What did you change?
Shaft.
Head and shaft.
So now it's like,
do you crank one or do you just hit a smoothie?
Crank?
Yeah.
But then you've got to go again in the final.
So you just go super crank?
Yeah, pretty much.
We got crank and super crank.
Yeah, there you go.
So 288 is what he's got to beat.
What did you change, mate?
So I changed the loft.
I went to a two degree lower sleeve.
So it's a 10 and a half turned down to eight and a half.
And I went to a 60X in the blue.
So shaft and loft.
Still very high.
Holy draw.
Still extremely high.
Bomb drop.
There'll be a big difference there.
311.
314.
314, okay, so not bad.
288 to 314, that's good.
Tommy, what changes did you make?
I changed the head to, what is it?
Core head, which has got less loft on it.
And then the blue shaft, because I like the color blue.
Oh!
That was really good.
That's a nice fitting, Tommy.
That's quite good.
Spending too much time with Adrian.
297.1, 43.6, that's decent, mate.
That's a nice.
That's a good start.
Go on, come on.
Oh, okay.
Tell us what you've done, mate.
I feel like I'm in danger here.
Dear me.
How many are you getting rid of?
Four.
Yeah.
Four, we're getting rid of four.
I went to a LS head, 10 and a half from the core,
and then I went to a 50X,
because I need all the swing speed I can get.
Did you do a little bit of cheating on the loft sleeve?
No, no, no.
Okay.
I don't do that.
I'm done.
Like there's, that's way, that's, I'm done.
Well, no, it's got a bit more tip it.
Go!
I hope it's farther than my first one.
This is a good hit, mate.
288.3.
Sweet, 12 yards.
Is that all that is?
Yes, that's all.
12.1, I just got the official.
Brooke wants at it, look, she's ready.
Brooke, what did you change?
I changed shaft to 50S,
and then I changed the head to a nine.
Stayed in the core, though.
Okay.
Did Matt help you out on that shaft change?
Are we blaming this on him?
Okay, so he's getting the credit then if it's 50 yards.
Reputation's on the line.
Yeah, Matt's reputation's on the line with this goal.
Come on, Brooke.
No big deal.
It'll be out of a job.
Please hit it solid.
Good shot.
Matt, what do you think?
Go!
Flushed.
It's good and flat.
He's giving it a little nod of approval.
Looks good.
241.7.
I improved a little.
What was your first number?
236, I think.
Oh, that's gonna be danger zone.
I changed it from the, well, I'm now in the LS,
so it's just the head and the degree.
LS, head, and the degree.
Eight degree.
Eight degree, changed the loft on the head,
and do you know, that's only one change, though.
Yeah, I know.
No, it's still right.
Are they gonna ride you?
Yeah.
Come back.
That was not as far, right?
No, we saw it the whole time.
Yeah, I could see it.
We're getting there.
I don't know, 255.7.
Okay.
Yeah, no, you're gonna be all right.
Big time.
Tell us where you were in your first shot.
Go on, are you ready?
I thought it was Scotty.
You can let someone else, hey, if you're not ready, champ,
we'll let someone else go.
You want it?
Yeah, I'm here.
So what did that carry?
31.1 was your number.
Yeah, that's good.
Better than me.
That means it's good.
All right, Nellie, what changes did you make?
Just changed the shaft.
I went to a softer shaft.
You just had a waggle, I like it.
Yeah.
This is getting serious.
I gave it a while.
Oh, that is.
Go.
47.3.
I hit it shorter.
I went backwards.
Negative two.
Negative 2.4.
Nice job fitting.
It's a good job you can fit it.
I'll stick to playing.
Mate, what have you got?
What have you done?
I took the loft down,
and I changed it to a 50 stiff instead.
Okay.
Still the red profile.
Still the red profile, yeah.
Interesting.
I like the way it felt.
Where's actually everybody aiming?
Oh, straight.
285.7.
Because I'm aiming towards the, uh...
What?
27.7.
I think I was 275 before.
Huh?
I think I was like 275.
10.7 he's gained.
10.7.
So we had a minus from Nelly.
I'm out.
I think it's Rory and Tommy.
What did you gain?
12.
It's Rory, Charlie, and Tommy moving on.
Hey, now you're done.
Okay, you get one change.
I have a great appreciation for you.
If anyone needs help, just let me know.
Can we ask for advice or not?
You can ask for advice.
Adrian, what shaft do you reckon I need?
Hold on a minute.
Let me ask first.
Your number was pretty good.
19.
What am I going to do?
Well, I just need to crank it now.
So just go, same, same setup.
Just the same.
Okay.
Keep the shaft because you turned it over the last time.
What are you changing to?
Yeah?
Oh, do I need a 60?
What am I using?
No, you're going the 60.
This should spin less, right?
Weight, weight profile instead of the blue.
60X.
This should help, yeah.
You should be able to go at it harder.
You should be able to go at this harder.
Okay.
Do you like the fitting tool
that all the fitters have got, Tommy?
I do.
Basically, you could get a job here
with the gains you've had so far.
This could be you next year,
rolling out with one of these.
Do you not remember the driver
I fit Rory into last time?
Tell us about the changes then.
Let's get this summarized up.
So obviously the one change is I changed the shaft
from the 60X in the blue to the 60X in the white.
Okay.
So a little stronger tip
should hopefully help it spin less.
You've got to hit it further than 314.
Yes.
I can't be,
I can't go into Nelly territory and be negative.
You just want full send after that one.
All right.
Well done, Rory.
320.
Nice.
334 total.
Six total.
Six more.
Six.
320.
What do you think that looked like it spun at?
Nearly 3000.
2500.
Did it?
Yeah.
297.1, mate.
What changes did you make?
LS head.
Okay.
Didn't see any of those at the Ryder Cup, thankfully.
295.8.
So I've changed it from 50R red to 60 blue S.
I can't hit the ball.
Was that a chunk?
Hey, that's coming back.
That's coming back.
That's toe.
That was actually fun.
That's toe and I've lost about 20 yards.
Yeah, you have.
244.6.
I'm whipping it under today.
Okay.
Champ.
Well done, Rory.
You got a job fitting for TaylorMade for that.
For a couple of year contract, you're in.
Thank you.
Most gains, though.
Tommy Fleetwood, I think.
From 253 to 290 something.
I should have just cut the driver out.
Yeah, basically, yeah.
Cut the driver out and knit it harder, I don't know.
So you can see the importance of fitting, right?
And how much it impacts people.
How much it impacts people watching this.
So the fastest 4D champion this year
is our Grand Slam champion, Rory McIlroy.
Congratulations.
Well done, mate.
Thank you.
On the golf course, on the fitting, he's got the gains.
