Out of all the incredible places I saw in Nicaragua, Ometepe Island just has this special vibe. There's something almost mythical about this small island, lorded over by its two ancient volcanoes. And honestly, the entire experience of actually getting there felt like an adventure on its own!

Right, Julie are you in the frame? I think you are mate, sort of. Yeah I'm happy with that.
How's my hair? I just could have done this today. I am so happy right now. It was a mission nearly
impossible to find a hairdresser that would do my hair in Nicaragua. Never mind. Today it's a
very exciting day because I'll be catching a ferry to this little island that's got two volcanoes
and apparently it's so epic, it's so scenic. So I think we have two awesome days ahead of us.
All roundabout have this tree in the middle. I think this tree is
lit at night. Looks like it. It had lights. Oh what's going on here?
Come on, come on. What's going on? Traffic jam.
Okay.
We'll be catching a ferry from this town. This looks like a gate to the port.
Whoa. This is the lake and look how rough it is. Look at the waves. It's like a sea. Wow. Okay.
I think we are buying the ticket.
This is a very affordable adventure. The ticket for myself was one dollar and for Chile five dollars.
Look at this. These waves are out of control. Why is it so rough? It's not even that windy today or
maybe it is. I just don't feel it. It doesn't look like a lake, hey? Looks like an ocean. Okay, Chile.
Here we go. Buenos dias. Ticket?
What is it? Efficiency is not a very good thing here, I must say. And the bureaucracy. Apparently
I need another piece of paper from who knows where. I've got the ticket. Another paper.
Yeah, I've got.
Right, there you go. This is what we need now. I'm getting frustrated. I must say bureaucracy is
shocking here. So you have to go to three different places to pay first one dollar,
then five dollars, and then two dollars. Crazy. Why they can't have it in one place?
Gracias. Oh, look at that.
You won't be able to turn around.
Oh, maybe. One, two, three, four, five, six, maybe nine cars in total can fit in on that ferry.
It's a small one. It's going to be rough, I reckon. No. Oh, this one. Sorry.
This one. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Gracias. Come in.
Uh-huh. Uno momento. I'm gonna. Uno momento. Good. What do you mean? Why not here?
Can you? Gracias. Gracias. Okay. Gracias. Gracias.
Uh-huh.
Aqui? Oh, uh-huh.
Ah, okay. We're moving it. No, I know. Okay, gracias.
Well, Chile, I think you are ready. Look at you.
I don't know how we're gonna send you up. You're just like right against the edge.
He used this guy tire. That's interesting.
Okay, here we go.
And we're off. It's very wobbly.
But Chile, oh, she's good. Now she's tied down to the, to the rail. So she's much better now.
Before she was a bit all over the job. Right, here we go. The island is not that far.
I think it's, it takes around 40 minutes to get there. Something like that. What an adventure.
We are nearly there. This is the island. So there are two volcanoes on this island.
Apparently this one, the bigger one, is still active. I think they are connected, maybe.
I'm not sure. And apparently we can ride around both of them. So that's our plan.
Okay. See, me first. Gracias. All right, Chile, let's go. Gracias.
Welcome to the other side. This is, apparently this is the entrance, exit.
Gracias. Adios. That's it. And we're on the island. That was fun. The biggest attractions
here on the island are hiking, kayaking, and there's a hot spring. Not too far from here.
Nothing is too far from here. So we have to say no to hiking because apparently this hiking to
the volcanoes, it takes nine hours and it's a challenging track. We don't have shoes and you
know me and walking. So we're not going to do that. But we're going to ride around the island
and we're going to see the volcanoes from the road. I think I'm happy with that. Kayaking,
I don't think we're going to have the time. But hot springs, absolutely yes. And I saw on
iOverlander that I will be able to camp close by, which is great because now during the day,
it's way too hot to go to the hot spring. But in the evening, that's a different story.
Whoa, the road goes through the airstrip. I don't think too many planes landed here
recently, but who knows? You just never know. They have here multifunctional roads.
Huh, it's cool. It's another village on the other side of the island. It's a very pleasant ride.
And look, there are more options for accommodation.
Plenty of, there are plenty of hostels on the island. And here we can already see the
second volcano. It's basically the road on the island, it's like number eight. So it goes around
one volcano, then second volcano. You know what I mean? So that's what we'll be doing today and
tomorrow. Just gonna go around both of them and sleep in two different places.
I'm just looking like, where we should stay tomorrow? I'm just like,
who's got the best option here? Plenty, plenty, plenty of options. We are very close. I think
most of the people who want to go to hot springs stay here because they don't have a tent. And we
do have a tent. Our road is here. I'm guessing it will be a dirt road like that. Here we go,
Chillie. We haven't done our dirt road for today. It's only 1.3 kilometers. So normally people just
walk to the hot springs. Or they get a lift, I guess. Okay, we are nearly here. This is it.
All the way from Australia. Thank you. Do you know where the campground is? I'll do that. Thank you.
All right, apparently there's a reception here. This place is awesome. I just paid four dollars
for camping and we'll be camping right here in this spot. There's plenty of shade. I love it already.
Yes, this is where we belong. I've created all this mess. Half unpacked. I just looked at the map
and I realized I'm in the wrong place. Hot springs are not here. I went past them. They were like 15
kilometers earlier. But that's okay. I still like this place. And tomorrow we go around this volcano
and at the end we're gonna end up at the hot springs. Yeah, that's the plan. I'm so organized.
Well done. And yeah, yeah, that's why. I'm so sorry. I'm so tired. I'll spit it out.
And the camp is ready. This is what I wanted to show you. This is how the island looks like.
Yesterday we got a ferry to here. We rode all the way to here. Now we're gonna go around
like that. Stay for the night here and tomorrow go back to the ferry this way.
