Saint Paul Lake Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, Montana

We are at the St. Paul trailhead here in the Cabinet Mountains of Montana. Heading up for a couple days. Anyway I'm the last one out of camp here so time to get rolling. Back in the Cabinet Mountains wilderness. Well so far the trail is really easy down here on the on the bottom. I know we're going up but it's a gentle grade. Really cool trail so far. St. Paul Lake is a fairly popular hike in the Cabinet Mountains. Most people just do it as a day hike. It's less than five miles in with a moderate climb to get up to the lake. We had a couple people in our group that were coming off injuries and this seemed like a good place to get them back into the swing of things. We're almost to the lake. Well we made it to the lake here. Beautiful lake. Tough camping for hammocks though. There's an established site up there on the ridge which we're taking. Happy to be here. It's a rare thing for us but we weren't pushing on to a new camp today. Although our campsite wasn't ideal, planned on just hanging around the lake and soaking it in and staying one more night. We'd walk out the following day. Well sitting here on the edge of St. Paul Lake. Fred's down there fishing. Kind of lounging around this morning. No real hurry. It's a decent spot up there. We're in the trail which I don't like but really nice spot. Really enjoying it though. Just I'm loving just hanging out at this lake. All right well we're all packed up here. Everybody else is on the trail just pulling out. We're going to stop down here at the river. Going to be a nice easy four or whatever mile walk. This was a cool place. Just made it past the river crossing. Should start cruising here. Coming into this last section now. I expect the trail to kind of flatten out and we should be cruising on back. Really enjoyed this walk today. It's nice in the shade. Having a lot of fun.
