So much of this Angel offense works when Mike Trout is right.
Yesterday, well, he got a scare of 94 in on the hand.
The good news is the x-rays came back negative.
That is a positive in the best way that it's not broken.
It's sore. It hurts.
Actually, it's not terrible, just swollen.
Were you relieved x-rays were negative?
Yeah, yeah.
You know, after looking at how swollen it got,
kind of scared me a little bit, so I'm just relieved
that it's not broken.
He's already feeling better today.
Maybe you'll be able to see him at some point today
if they need him.
Now, the Angels take the field here tonight, led by their ace.
Jose Soriano has looked every bit like an ace.
Over the first two starts, he is not allowed to run.
No pitcher ever since they've had the 60-feet,
6-inch distance from the mound.
The home plate has had three straight starts
to begin a season with no runs allowed
and two hits or fewer allowed.
Soriano could be the first ever.
The first pitch to Ronald Acuna, chopped to third.
It's Oswald Carraza, good play across.
Gets Acuna by a step.
One pitch and one out.
Climbing in now, Drake Baldwin.
What a great start he's off to.
Drake Baldwin crushes this to right field.
Back at the wall, and it is gone.
Strikes again, and two batters in.
Atlanta has the lead.
The first run that Jose Soriano has given up this season.
That thing took off
and was way up into the Earth's atmosphere.
The scouting report for Soriano, lots of ground balls.
Drake Baldwin said, never mind that.
I'm going to send one into outer space.
You're not going to hear one
that sounds much better than that.
One out hit for Matt Olsen and Austin Riley.
Their third baseman will be the next batter.
Little jam shot to second fielded by Frazier.
Steps on the bat, throws to third.
The ace is back in the center of the diamond tonight
for the Atlanta Braves,
and what a start to the year it's been for Chris Sale.
12 innings pitch, just one run, four hits, nine strikeouts.
There's something about when he sees the halo uniforms.
The numbers against the Angels are just downright ridiculous.
There's a drive and a lunge and a miss
and a slider for strike three.
So, back-to-back strikeouts by Sale of Adele and Candelario.
That ends the first inning. Tied at one.
So, after Sale's first pitch of the night,
he's been unhittable.
Sale's 2-2 pitch, and he bites the dust.
Fastball 97, and that takes care of Moncato
and the Angels in the bottom of the second.
Soriano back to work.
Swing and a miss, strike three.
He brought out the whole arsenal
to punch out Michael Harris on three pitches.
Mauricio Dubon digging in.
And did he go after that one?
Yes, he did.
We might have a pretty good breeze tonight
from all these strikeouts we're going to see.
Both teams got a homer in the first inning.
The two pitchers starting to settle in after that.
And that will do it.
96, top shelf.
Veteran Adam Frazier in his first year here with the Angels.
Called strike on the inside corner.
Six Ks already.
This is the guy, Neto, that jumped on the first pitch,
hit the homer off of Sale.
But since then, eight in a row set down and six strikeouts.
Sale is going to win battle number two here with Zach Neto.
Two more strikeouts, and one, two, three, they go.
So, that ends the top of the fourth.
Soriano takes care of business quickly,
and the Braves are very quiet here
in the fourth. Three straight strikeouts.
Sale, searching for his seventh strikeout.
Oh, two.
Bowen inside, just almost hit him in the foot.
Actually, it did hit him in the foot.
Only the second time anyone has reached tonight
for the Angels.
The other, of course, the homer by Neto.
Joe Adele stands in, struck out his first time.
Adele loops one to right. That's a base hit.
Solaire to second base,
and the Angels try to get something going here.
First and second, nobody out.
Jamer Candelario stands in here, struck out his first time.
He did have five hits with men in scoring position yesterday
and they would like just one here to take the lead.
There's ball four. So, now the bases are loaded.
Nobody out, and it will be Luffy
with a chance to put the Angels in front.
And a check swing. It's ball four.
Sale walks in a run, and the Angels take a two-to-one lead.
Still the bases loaded. One out now.
Moncada is the hitter.
Oh, he hit Moncada.
Two-hit batsman and two walks
equal two more runs for the Angels.
It's three-to-one.
Sale just fired the Rosen back down,
an extremely unusual inning for Sale.
Already 21 pitches in the inning,
most in an inning tonight for Sale,
yet to record an out here.
Bouncer to third. Riley's going to come home,
and they get the force.
Baldwin taken out by Adele, but he checks on him.
Everybody's okay.
See how Drake looks down,
just to make sure that he was on the plate.
Just hold your breath there for a moment.
Yeah, for sure.
Thankfully, no knee got twisted in a bad direction.
Chris Sale has been an unusual mess in this inning.
Toss and ball left side for Teodosio,
and the Angels lead four-to-one.
A nice job by Mauricio DuPont to keep this in the infield.
That would have been another run,
but he's able to lay out for it, dives for it,
keeps the ball in the infield.
Angels just, everybody moves up 90 feet,
but another run on the board.
And Ori Soler knocks through a base hit
to lead off here in the fifth inning.
They've got to keep that pressure on.
Keep trying to add on against a great pitcher like Sale,
who was off his game last half inning.
Don't let him settle.
Ball is hammered.
Left center field.
Yastrzemski's out for it.
He has his first home run of 2026.
An absolute rocket by Adele Sale.
Settle down.
Here's Lowen. Come settle away.
Took a season out for Robin.
Yeah, I guess there was something to it.
Take a couple back.
You got to get one of your own, right?
So, it's pretty awesome.
And for the future Hall of Famer,
it just wasn't his night.
He hasn't walked anybody.
So, if he's not going to give you bases,
it's really hard to take them off of him.
Yeah, he has six strikeouts.
No walks.
He's allowed two hits,
and they're both in the first inning.
Mauricio Dubon digs in.
Roller down the third base side.
Backhand Paraza.
Pitch to the crossbar.
That throw, no matter where you throw it,
he's made some great...
At second base.
Backhand quickly across the diamond.
Such a strong throwing line.
Three balls and one strike on Acuna.
Well, so there's back.
He's at the right track.
He's got it.
16 straight set down by Soriano.
Angels have provided all the fireworks tonight
outside of Drake Baldwin's first inning.
Homer against Jose Soriano
has been an otherwise extremely dominant performance
by Soriano.
Oh, he's been great using all his pitches.
Three and two.
That's in there.
Strike three, and Baldwin knew it.
Drop.
0-2 on Olsen.
Check swing.
He went around.
Strike three.
Yeah, Olsen didn't even wait around for that check.
One ball, two strikes on Riley.
Left center field.
Teodosio's after it.
Has some room near the track.
Makes the catch.
So it's a one, two, three, seventh.
Riley just looking out there in disbelief.
I think he thought he got it.
19 straight have been retired by Soriano.
Jose Soriano continues to dominate the Braves
through seven.
And here's Grimsky.
Continues to hit the ball pretty sharply tonight
as that breaks the streak of 19 in a row
set down by Jose Soriano.
One ball, two strikes on Albies.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three.
That's Splitter again.
Got him twice now with a split.
That one split, it went down and in on this way,
the conventional way.
One out and brings up Dominic Smith.
Bounces this one wide of the mask.
Soriano grabs it,
and he'll run it himself to first.
Two.
Soriano now with seven and two thirds innings
under his belt.
He'll try to get through eight
with Michael Harris coming up.
Swing and a miss.
10 strikeouts and eight brilliant innings
from Jose Soriano.
What a job he did tonight,
squaring off against Chris Sale.
And the Angels are three outs away
from handing Sale his first career loss
against the Halos.
Here's Mauricio Dubon against Chase Silseth.
We've seen a lot in high leverage situations this year,
really with the bullpen being used quite a bit yesterday.
But Dubon cranks this to left.
Deep and gone.
So Mauricio Dubon with a solo shot,
his second of the season,
and it's six to two.
He's been swinging a good bat.
He's against a split too.
This one though sat in the middle of the zone.
That's a pitch you want at the bottom or below.
And Mauricio Dubon has been impressive
on both sides of the ball.
He has been great for the Braves here early on.
Baldwin going to slap one in the center
down for a base hit.
Turn around a 95 mile an hour fastball,
two hit night for Drake Baldwin.
Austin Riley tried to break out of his slump
0 for 3 tonight.
3 and 2.
That's ball four.
That might bring Jordan Romano into this game.
Tying run moves into the on-deck circle.
Romano looking for his fifth career save
against the Braves for this season.
If you could pick this one up here.
It's 3 for 3.
He has not given up a run yet.
And he has seven strikeouts
in his first four and two thirds innings.
Strzemski has a base hit tonight.
He's 1 for 3.
No balls, two strikes.
Strike by Mike Center.
Play over for Teodosio.
He's under it.
Angels have won three straight,
and Jose Soriano has turned in three
magnificent starts to begin the season.
What a tremendous, tremendous game
by Sori tonight.
Eight innings of domination.
No walks.
He had it all working tonight.
