In our regular season finale on NBC, we get a taste of the playoffs and what's to come.
Two of the top seven teams in the Western Conference and a return. Playoff implications,
personal implications, we have it for you. The Phoenix Suns, one of the surprise teams
in the league. Welcome back Kevin Durant. He's back in the Valley for the first time
since getting traded to full seasons in the Valley.
Williams and Shangoon for the tip. Rockets in their own red. Phoenix in their Valley
threads and it belongs to the Suns. The trade of Kevin Durant for Jalen Green and Dylan Brooks,
the Suns have not really got a chance to see as that three goes. Jabari Smith Jr. is turning it
on at a big game on Sunday at Golden State. Now guarding Booker. Devin Booker gets it started
for Phoenix. That's just tough, tough offensive. Reid Shepard starting. Jime Odoka told us pregame
we're riding Reid Shepard right now as that is rejected at the 10. Green, Jalen Green,
24 years of age, four years spent in Houston. A tough postseason last year as that is a nifty
finish. Thompson glides in and then Thompson just taking his game to the next step this year. Book,
Devin Booker. Shangoon turned it over. That's been Houston's flaw this year is the turnover
problem. They've been bottom 10 in the league in the turnover department. Kick out to the corner,
it's Cash. Williams. Lakers wave George Goodwin and the Suns have brought him in and Ian Devin
Booker has started red hot for the sixth straight. Phoenix on a 9-0 run. Here comes Green, Jalen
Green. That is tough. Phoenix looking ahead. It's Brooks. Kicks it back. Goodwin. Timeout Houston.
The Valley's fired up. Shangoon on the back down. Williams stood him up. Mark Williams getting back
into the rotation. Dylan Brooks glides in. He couldn't hit. Williams. He's been a wrecking ball.
This is Booker with 10. Booker has started red hot. Jalen Green against his former team tonight.
His way off. Williams. We talked with the Suns grass this morning. Reaction in his left foot.
That's a rejection by Green. Phoenix is flying. 18-0 run. Williams. Brooks, Devin Booker,
Jalen Green play meaningful games in meaningful minutes together. So any opportunity like this
one tonight. Well, that's the last thing we have to worry about is the rancid field goal
percentage. I think the Rockets just have to figure out a way to play. We talked with Jordan
on pregame. He talked about his bench unit and Nicodaro is going to come up with a steal and
right on cue. As a teammate or as a coach, this is what creates the separation. Reed Shepard,
Houston. 14-4 on the season. I wasn't good enough to wait until March or April. Those guys were.
Well said. Up ahead, Easton with one hand. Listening to Noah and Reggie on the call.
Charlotte Hornets are going to be a fun team to watch in the playoffs. Nicodaro.
Devin Booker committing to Phoenix and Devin Booker has set the tone.
Right now, early in Turkey, watching this game, guys.
If you are, Zora, that's great stuff. It's on the putback.
How much does Reed Shepard win?
Better by knocking down tiny threes. That's just all Reed Shepard did on that possession.
It helped to get a deep fish dish along the way, too, Carter. 16. It's Nicodaro driving.
Oh, so the 19. Eight seconds here for Thompson. Thompson attacking. What a finish.
Wow, those moments. Off the fake, O'Neal. He'll X-factor this Phoenix team. Great ball movement
into a three. It's Goodwin again. It's great basketball. It's how he wants to play. They've
done a great job of it. You bring in a guy like Goodwin, and you lift the defensive ceilings of
others. Holliday hits it home. Houston was two of nine. I'm out to prove I've taken that next step.
Shot off for Thompson. Extra opportunity, and that one a little bit off, and then a tip-back
goes. Holliday matches his total from the entirety of Sunday's game. Katie's return to the valley.
Durant struggles continue. Offensive rebound. The best offensive rebounding team in the league.
It was Tate. So physical on the defensive end. Both turning the ball over a little bit more
than you would like, but it's not uncoursed, necessarily. A lot of messages being exchanged
here between Durant and Brooks. Durant. Uh-oh. Skate City. Yeah. The bear got poked, Derek Fisher.
Yes, it did. Oh, we got a technical foul now. And it is in this building tonight, for sure.
Two full seasons for Durant. A player his caliber. They bring him in. They had
massive expectations. Is that three? Yeah, it's full of talented guys,
but competitive spirit is at the top of the list as well. KD has awoken. Phoenix was up 21.
Kevin Durant put the oil on the pan. KD is cooking. With the rebound, Devin Booker has 19.
Jalen Green, little muscle. Jalen Green, count it. Early, getting into the mid-range and into
the tightened area. And then Jalen Green in transition. Durant, no. Got it back. KD.
Oh, putback jam. Thompson. Free throw attempt, 17-4. In favor of Houston. Shangoon finishes with
a left hand. Durant. Guarded by Green. Sheppard. Bring it up. Green. Sheppard. Top offensive
rebounding team in the NBA. The Houston Rockets, winners of six in a row in the chase for three
seed. And they've started the third strong. A slam by Evan Thompson. Jalen Green, gliding in.
Rejected. Capella stuffed it. McCogey. He started early in the season for Houston.
Starts the second half off the bench. And Clint Capella gives the Rockets.
And then Thompson with 10. Green. Shot him down. Shot clock at five. Kick out. Smith.
Ring the bell. Still pursuing Denver. Phoenix gets a stop. Booker in transition. Rejected.
Thompson. Sets it in the third row. Shot clock. Suns without a made field goal in this third
quarter. Brooks. Ends that drought. Phoenix back up three. A loss and that cements them
in the playoffs. Yeah, and I feel like, you know, listening to players and coaches. Here comes Dylan
Brooks. Mr. Jones basketball, more than anything, if they can get up to six, great. But even at seven,
they feel good about who they are. Wow. Jabari Smith Jr. just continues. He came up big time
and again for Houston. Six straight wins Sunday. The victory over Gold State. Spin cycle. Jalen
Green just put a little laundry in. When there's a trade involving a player as great as Kevin. I
mean, obviously, whenever he leaves a team, as he leaves, recalibrating things here in Phoenix,
and they're really playing good basketball. You give Brian Gregory a world of credit.
Suns front office for making it come together. But Durant, in his first game back in the Valley
since he was. Jalen Green. Sheen League ignite. With four fouls. That fourth foul getting committed
in the opening moments of the third quarter. KD. Spins off. Sheppard on the offensive glass.
It's what the Rockets do. Right, but that starts with. Aguitaro in. Off the bench. Smith. In and
out. Another offensive rebound. Give Houston second chance points 22 and 23. And they just
wear you down again. Sometimes their best offense is a missed shot. Sheppard. Reed Sheppard.
It's really the halfway point of the second quarter and a physical game.
Grayson Allen. A window here for Houston. A lot to play for as Kevin Durant ties his game.
A lot to play. This freshman class was really good. It was historic. There's more talent coming
and we're even up 25 points in this game. That leads everybody.
Devin Booker to Grayson Allen. Extra pass to O'Neal.
The Rockets 15 total turnovers for 20 points. The Suns 13, 18 points. Give it up.
I think that'll be the key for the Rockets.
From beyond the arc. Smith. Corner. Triple. Doesn't fall. Again on the offensive rebound.
Chance points. Holliday. Got his man in the air. That is silky smooth. Jabari Smith Jr.
Offensive rebound for Shandou. These Rockets have won six in a row.
Thunderous jam. Timeout Phoenix. Depending on where Houston falls, your reward if you're
the Thunder. Second round series with the Houston Rockets. Or if you're the Spurs as
Shea Goon hits it home. The Eastern Conference has something to say about that as well because
I think we're all high on the starting points. Largest lead for the Rockets. Smith with 15.
Booker. They brought two. Off to Grayson. He's laying home. Williams on the cleanup.
Tiebreaker but a huge eight minutes for the Houston Rockets. Shandou takes it off. That
was beautiful to Tara Eason. Trust feels like the word for Houston this spring. Shea Goon
taking off. Timeout zone.
Rejected. Smith and the Houston defense comes up big again. They've got number.
Booker to Brooks. He's long and Phoenix's fourth quarter woes have returned.
Goodwin lays it in. Durant re-enters with Smith, Thompson, Eason and Holliday. Holliday all the way.
The Suns have broken down defensively as well.
And Guadarro finishes through some cover. They can't get a defensive rebound.
That's good to issue. Oh, Ahmed Thompson. He's taking names tonight, Phoenix.
Putting him on the ball. We want him in attack mode. Thompson kicks to Smith. Jafari Smith Jr.
These Rockets. But there are multiple teams that have the ability because of the other guys.
Kevin Durant may have just said good night this season. All three meetings. In those three
meetings combined they were plus 19 on the block. Tonight alone they're plus 19. Back down for one
but the playoffs are just it's just a completely different experience.
Booker to Williams. Williams hits it home. Jordan was looking for a foul.
Back in the valley for the first time since getting traded last July. Austin Thompson,
he's been a game changer. Jafari Smith Jr. with three. Smith hits it.
It's just good composure and poise. Jafari Smith Jr. 20 points tonight in Phoenix.
Making timely baskets and big shots. We got a taster from Kevin Durant said be
careful with the basketball. They're going to try to come at us here in the final stretch.
Ahmed Thompson puts the exclamation point. Obviously we're have been impacted by health.
Steven Adams being out. I know we talk about that.
Thompson. Final seconds in the valley. Kevin Durant returns the valley.
Leads the way with 24. Three with 20 plus. Houston you have no problems right now.
Seven in a row for the Red Hot Rockets. How did you channel that energy into the performance on
the court? Oh we just weathered that storm. They hit us with a good punch early on and
both teams got history with one another so we knew it was going to be a chippy game. We knew
that was going to come out with energy and both teams getting ready for the playoffs so you know
it was one of those games and you know I love how we weathered the storm. I love how we stayed
together and was able to take that first punch and take the lead and win by double digits. Yeah
what got into you all in that fourth quarter? I mean we moved to basketball. Alfie was incredible.
He got us going and we fed off his energy. He was the source in the fourth quarter. It's the
reason why we won the game. He was passing. Guys were cutting off of him. He was getting whatever
he wanted in the post and at the elbow. It's a great team win. And you talk a lot about ball
movement during this seven game winning streak. How much have these guys continued to earn your
trust during this period? I mean we earned each other's trust. I think we've always been good in
the trust department but now we got some schemes that we've been throwing in. Coach
been implementing some different stuff out there and guys are just executing at the end of the day.
Appreciate the time. Yeah appreciate you.
