Very wobbly ceiling fan - the 68" Hampton Bay Altura ceiling fan running with only 2 blades attached. This is only 2/5ths the amount of blades it is designed to have.
The Hampton Bay 68 inch Altura seam fan with two blades. Part A.
We'll have to do this in two parts because there are two different permutations available
for operating it with two blades. We will start with um, I guess it doesn't make much of a
difference because we got to move everything around anyways. We'll start with um, we'll start
with the least of the two configurations in terms of balance likelihood. That was a horrible way to
word it. We'll start with the configuration that's more likely to be out of balance.
Okay, here we go. Two blades in the most out of balance configuration conceivable.
We'll begin with the low. Quite a bit of shake in the downward connection at the bottom but
otherwise not too out of balance yet. Let's change that with the medium. It does seem like those two
blades are moving more air than uh, it does with all five. But the problem is, or should I say,
they're putting out a higher velocity gust. The problem is it's very choppy and inconsistent now.
So I'm not sure how the actual volume of air move would compare. I guess it's probably less.
Let's try the HIG. Wow, that is going really fast. That's going a lot faster than I've ever seen this
run. And see again, it's hard to say that the gust coming out of it is much higher velocity than it
was even with the three blades. But it's so choppy and inconsistent. It's probably not really a good
way to move the air. But there's definitely some serious air moving, rushing around this room though.
You know, all things considered, it's just still fairly tame. Especially compared to the crests.
I wonder if that's just because it's on the longer rod. Oh, let's try the reverse which
would be a little bit worse because it's faster. Oh no, it got reversed while it was running. The
motor's gonna break. Ah, it's busted. Gotta get a new fan. It definitely moves a lot more air with
only two blades. I can feel the air kicking around here on reverse. Whereas with all five,
I didn't feel much of any airflow on reverse at all. Which is logical enough because the
the scoop of the blades is not designed to be aerodynamically reversible.
I wouldn't expect it to push much of any air in reverse at all.
The medium. I think it's actually shaking worse on medium.
And the low.
So
Now I'm gonna reverse it now and then we'll shut it off.
